View Full Version : Universal Remote Control Trouble

Before anything I have to say everything happened like a year before.

Our normal remote control for an old LG television(CB-14F80) stopped working so we bought a 10in1 skymaster universal remote control(2421).
It was hard to make it work (old tv) but I managed to do it. But in the process I have accidentally changed the television settings with the numbers(just wanted to change channel). Colors, position, things like that. So I went forth and back to "reset" the settings but the tv remained "zoomed". The upper part and the lower part is out of the screen. Please note that the tv is so old there isn't any button or feature as zoom. It wasn't a big deal but now during the Olympics my father is mad that he can't see the time of the competitors.
I have already tried to do the same as before without any luck(tried the automatic searching, manually trying codes). Searched on the internet but I haven't found anything.

tl;dr: Universal remote control screwed up tv setting(like it's zoomed), how can I change it back?

Any help/tip is greatly appreciated.

play around with setting? unlplug tv, take apart, remove the memory battery for a few minutes, re-assemble, you now have a reset TV, and watch for capacitors in there...there will be some gnarly ones.

also, this thread is on the second page of google already when you search for that TV, lol.

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow(1:34 am here) and yes this is not really a common problem. I don't know how I achieved that. There isn't any way of set those things I have screwed(luckily other things "reseted" after forth-back), I think that was some type of service frequency but I don't know anything about tvs.

hmmmm, weird, most the TV's I have taken apart include a small button cell battery.

Have you tried hitting it with a hammer?

I can make pics of the taken apart tv. I bet you won't find a battery. We were desperately searching for one.

Hammer, huhh? Yeah maybe that will come ... :D

However we have found something that we can screw and make things worse. :duh:

pics aren't necessary, you just have a weird TV I guess, lol.

and yeah, it is always easier to make things worse than to fix them.
