What is DDOSing ? + Your opinion about it

Recently i saw some pk videos on youtube when kids kill kids in rs because they DDSOSed him.

Could some one explain me first what its like ? DDOSing ? and dont be a smartass and give me a wikipedia link or such :p My english isnt that great so try to get it simple.

I also want your opinion about this and what the consequenties are / can be. Like i saw some comments from kids who said you get the FBI on you. Have people here experience with this :p ? Or have somebody saw a thread on a random forum about this ?

I really didnt knew this kind of things worked on RS so i am quiet schocked :o

Well they let them lagg out so they wont eat. I saw different methods on youtube. Many are just on private servers but this one was on the real RS. Will Jagex ban you for this ? Is it 100% detectable for Jagex ?

I dont know how it really works and I am a bit curious. Not that I am planning to try it out just because Its quite interesting.

No, you build your own botnet and then just give the zombie machines a command to ping some IP.

Actually most don't use botnets, they use the plenty of scripts SwiftKit gives you to DDOS you, though it's not an actual DDOS. DDOSing is essentially "flooding" someones connection with pings so nothing can get in or out, which cuts off their connectivity. Usually a botnet, but most of these people just use the scripts provided.

Getting a group of people to ping is a bit different then building a botnet :)

Lol @ people who think a ICMP PING will do shit to take down a person's connection. Unless of course their router REPLIES to ICMP, then they are just a dumbass (same applies to anyone who has a site that replies to ICMP PING).

GoF is right, doubt people are going to try to attack some people in RS like that, nor would they attack a gameserver.

inb4 people ask me about my (nonexistant) botnet, due to Wizzykins implying I had one at an IRC thread, because the IRCop said so. The IRCop is lacking ANY proof at all of this accusation.

I was on a server that was getting continuously attacked, and when I saw that message, I thought 'hmm' why dont I just ask this mother fucker.

There was lots of other messages I just found that one to be the most interesting.

Why should I know/why should I care? Probably a disguised personal-army attack.

Either way, good job helping whoever's goal it is to attack me and spread my info around on the Interbutts.

I come to this concussion for a few reasons:
1) He posted the same info onto another IRC network I was on, and harassed the IRCops to get me KLined there as well. The IRCop told him to piss off.
2) He has control of KLines. He can easily disable the proxy filter for a few seconds to come in and spam about me.
3) He refuses any contact with me. I ask about the ban on the only way to contact the IRCops outside of the network (their forums), and they ban my account and IP Ban me.
4) He has no proof/basis for my ban, and refuses to show anyone this proof that he claims to have.

No its not, the data goes through the server and they do not pass other peoples ip's to the client as far as i know.

I think its more like that they team up with some other who gets friends with someone and then tells him to visit some site which records the ip, then the guy asks the other if he wants to go pk and then tells hes friend to come and kill him, they must have a botnet to do that shit.
