View Full Version : VM Ipod/Iphone Development
I think this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the thread. I'm looking to develop a few Ipod Touch applications for personal use. I'm not buying an Apple machine. I'm not buying a Dev-Kit.
Can I develop while running Mac OS in a Virtual Machine?
Does anyone have any experience with development? What can I actually do with my free registration?
Thanks.

Apparently QEMU runs Mac OS X better than VMWare/VirtualBox. But I haven't tested. There's also something called Hac I think. Markus knows something about it (I think).
I think Mac VM should allow you to make apps for ipod.

Mac OS X doesn't like being virtualized. I've had touch luck with QEMU and Virtualbox, but VMWare is said to work. I think you have to pay to make apps though?

That was part of my question. There was an option for free developing on the website, and it seems as if I'm able to make all of the downloads and such. I'm not sure if the paid developer system is only for access to the app store.

iPhone Development itself is free (afaik the SDK can just be downloaded, and all online documentation is freely accessible), it just costs $99 for a certificate (to test at a real iPhone unjailbroken) and to be able to submit apps.
And do me one favour and don't virtualize it, just get it running native. Insanelymac.com has tooons of information about that and it isn't too hard.

iphone development has become a truly high demanding phenomenon. Many software development companies have gain the expertise and experience on the software platforms which are the key requirement for iPhone application development. The main advantage of this application is that it is easy to manage and optimize complete business process.
