Hello all, recently I have gotten into some trouble. Me and a dude got into a fight at my house. It was just me and him with my cousin there. Well apparently I was in the wrong and ended up getting arrested with aggravated battery with great bodily harm because he had a small facial fracture.
The dude is my cousin in a way, he is with my older cousin, which is currently pregnant. Well, he wants to drop all of this. He decided he didn't want to press charges against me.
At the moment though my public defender said it didn't matter, that the state of florida was picking them up.
How can they do this? What would be the wisest thing for me to do? If I went to trial, would I for sure win with the victim not showing up?
Any professional advice on this would be useful and appreciative. Thanks.

Seeing as how no one on these forums (To my knowledge) are lawyers, I would consult your public defender.

If this section of the website is for a specific type of help question, than I am sorry. I have a shitty public defender that is against me. Even when I went in for a meeting with him he was a dick head and didn't seem interested in anything I had to say but to accept 2 years and a month.

He's a douche then. Check with family members see if any of them have connections. I am unfamiliar with Florida law.

You're public defender isn't getting paid worth anything, so he's not gonna fight for you very hard. Get a real attorney.
"Go to Florida on Vacation, Leave on Probation"....the state has the right to pick up a case and prosecute you even if the plaintiff has dropped the charges...your chances are good at getting it thrown out if you take it to trial, but your age, past records and standing in the community (good grades in school ?, enrolled now?, job? public service?, etc) factor into this.....first get rid of your "Public Defender", despite what they may say, they will only do the bare minimum and NOT in your best interest, get the best lawyer you can afford, even if it means working your arse off...(How much do you value your freedom ?)...
