In this tutorial i will show you how to sort out the annoying MSVCR71.dll error that many people seem to be getting regularly

First of all i would like to let you know i am running Windows NOT Mac, it is just a theme because i love the look of Mac

This tutorial will help you fix this error
http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/8900/msvcr1.png
If you have the above error then follow this tutorial, if not then do a forum search

First of all go to this link http://www.dll-files.com/pop.php?dll=msvcr71
And you will have this page
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/3070/msvcr2.png
Click on download and open up the zip file that you get
It should have the following files in it
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/8236/msvcr3.png
If it does not have these files in it then make sure you clicked the correct link

Now open Computer and go to C:/Windows/system
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/3121/msvcr4.png
This folder may be empty or it may have some files in it, if it is empty then dont worry, many people think it is the wrong place because there is no files already in it, but i can assure you it IS the correct folder

Now drag the dll file that was in the zip file into the C:/Windows/system
There should now be a file called msvcr71.dll in the folder
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/116/msvcr5.png

Now restart Simba and see if you still get the error, you shouldnt do, but if you do then just post below and i will try to help you as fast as i can

Should add that 64-Bit users place it in the SysWOW64 folder.

This is needed, seen a lot of people mentioning the error, having it myself when first setting up Simba.

Are you sure its wise to download the dll from that website though ?

it doesnt go in the sysWOW64 folder, and whenever people ask i always tell them to put it in the system folder and it works perfectly fine, i use 64 bit and so do most people who have this problem

i am sure that site is safe, i have used that site for years for msvcr71.dll

Does it also work if you place it in the Simba directory? (Not the Simba/Plugins directory)

That seems like a more appropriate solution to me; as the DLL will only be used from Simba, and not from any other applications. :)

but i have had that error from other applications as well, so at least if it is there then if any other applications need it then it will be there already

1.) Install .NET 1.1
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26

2.) Install the vc++ redist

x86 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en

That is the correct solution to this problem. I do not recommend for anyone to download from sites like that.

had this problem last week setting up a friend's computer to auto. I wish I had known about this thread then. This might need to be stickied/ linked to by a set-up tutorial/wiki.

It's common sense, whenever you get an error like that, google it.

I'm now getting this error

The application or DLL C: \ Windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

What do I do!?

Nevermind, just re-installed java

I get the error after all the script choosing, account adding. This is the error. The procedure entry point_clean_type_info_names_internal could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR100.dll

This fixed everything on my desktop. My work laptop also had an MSVCR100.dll that needed fix. I'm working on that right now.

Edit: I reinstalled Java, added MSVCR100.dll and no good. I uninstalled and clear all of the files for Simba and reinstalled everything. I added the missing .dll files and here is the error I'm getting.

I really am not sure what to do to fix this issue. I'll wait until you can advise me on it. I've tried reinstalling Java and Simba and since it worked perfectly on my desktop I'm not sure what the issue is here. Thoughts?

Edit: Finally got it! All I had to do was follow this. http://villavu.com/forum/showpost.php?p=851272&postcount=322

Or you could completely erase this guide and tell them to redownload java............

No as Java may install the library in it's own directory. It does not add it's directory to the PATH.

Adding the Java directory to your PATH or copying the library from the Java directory will work.

At first I had this problem and this wonderful guide fixed it. After I restarted Simba I tried to start a script. After I clicked run and then save account info, an error popped up that said this:

The bitmap[14] does not exist.
Press OK to ignore and risk data corruption.
Press Cancel to kill the program.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm trying to do this, but after I download, and try to open the zip file, to see what is in it so I can drag it over to the system file, it won't let me unzip it and says I need to buy "winzip". what do I do :(?

Okay I followed the tutorial and I added "msvcr71.dll" into C:\Windows\system (it was a blank folder with nothing in it) and I still get the error. Also I can't download Java because it say's I'm missing a DLL, but clearly it's in the folder. Any help?

Abu

The tutorial is actually incorrect.

If you are on Windows XP or Vista then it needs to go in C:\Windows\System32

Then you google/search for MSVCR100.dll instead. Not rocket science uh ;)

there is a copy of msvcr100.dll in c:\Documents and settings\"username"\jagexcache\jagexlauncher\bin

Seems to be microsoft original, untampered :norris:

EDIT:
I don't know where my msvcr71.dll went, but it is not in windows (including windows\system32), just in case some others hoped they would find it there (using xp here)
