well i was thinking of setting my desktop up as a server (it just sits there doing nothing all day switched off)

but i have no idea how to set up the DNS, hostname, nameserver and everything
also i have a dynamic IP address

All I would need is the ip, I think dynamic is fine.
And for a port to be forwarded.
Could I ask the specs?

uptime when i get it online should be 100% unless i need to restart for some reason or my mum doesnt pay the internet bill, if i need to restart then it would be for a few mins, if its the bill then it would be a few days

i have no idea what the upload speed is

i will have lampp or xampp (depending on which os i decide to have running) running on there which will have apache php and mysql

Nope, i will need to send the Servers files over then it just runs a .bat.

To shuttle: Run it through no-ip so you only have to give out a domain and not a ip. And you would just have to update there domain.(Domain is free)

i did also use no-ip but it didnt work, neither did dyndns.com :(

Try freedns, it has more choices for domains and worked for my minecraft server

How many people are needing to connect max? You might be able to run connections using VPNs.

In addition, I have a static IP, so NO-IP will only be used if people really want it. Opens up a nice option - if a member of ours gives us a subdomain and redirects it to my IP, we can have a nice classy url :)

How 'dedicated' could your server be? If you would dedicate a host to for srl minecrafts I would front your goodies.... Lets move this chat to the already existing minecraft srl topic thread.
