The title says it all pretty much. How would I go about reading text that I don't know anything about except what it looks like?

make a font (make bitmaps for each letter), load the font, find it like rs text :)

You would need to make a new font set.
I will try and find you a tutorial :)

Create a font by following one of the tutorials on this site, or possibly gather it with OpenGL (i THINK it was n3ss3s or someone who made a thread about using OpenGL to gather text from the RS Client, same might be able to be done for other purposes).

This is why I love this site. No matter what the problem is, there is always someone willing to lend a helping hand. Hey Blumblebee, do you remember me? You were very influential before I became a member and put up with all sorts of ridiculous questions. I remember you, mixster, and method the most.
E : kongking : I see you are a new user to the site and I like what I've seen of you so far around the forums. Thanks for the link :).

So far I have made bitmaps of the numbers because those are the only characters I will be trying to read. The only text finding I have found so far is only capable of finding text that you already know the order of. Like checking if an NPC is saying what you are expecting and returning the location. What I am trying to do is read the text in a given area and return the text in anyway possible really. An integer or a string.
The numbers move slightly to the left and right as the number grows, so i can't use solid boundaries for each digit.
I'm going to include a few sample bitmaps of the numbers because they have more complex shading than RS text. After reading the tutorial on making my own text I have correctly named and stored the text folder in my SIMBA directory. When I start Simba, it says that it has loaded my text folder, but
I've read that the text has to be colored in a way that SIMBA can read it. Without the red outline but with black background(preferably) and white text
in the foreground. With the slightly more complex shading I'm not exactly sure what to leave white and what to turn black. Should I leave only the pure white areas of the letters white, and the rest black. Or should I leave the gray areas as they are?

I think, you should make the background black and the text white, take a look at the fonts in simba, it'll hopefully clear your doubt.

I would leave only the pure white areas white, everything else black, maybe you could share where you are trying to read the text? I could give it a try also.

I will try to do it with leaving only the pure white areas white. It seems like this removes part of the letter in some cases. I am trying to read the pot size as well as the stack size of every player in the PokerStars client. They are the same font.
And the main thing is how I would go about "reading" what it says. Not looking for specific text.
