So I have installed Kubuntu a few months ago to try it out, since then I didn't really use it.
But today I thought I remove grub because I don't want to see it more at booting up.
So I was searching the internet and found the solution: edit the root/etc/default/grub file.
This option was good for me: change the Timeout to 0 so only when I press shift grub come up.
I also changed defult os to 6 as that's my windows.(well, I think)
First problem: I couldn't edit the file, so I went into the users settings where it asks for password and I changed my user groups to only root, where you can tick certain ones(I think this is the main problem I got).
That didn't helped, so I searched more.
I was able to edit the file by typing "kdesu dolphin" in the run thing.
Restart -> Kubuntu starts(I was like :( )
So I was about to edit the file again(with the same method), it asks for password, I give it the right one, but it only gives me an error sound.
Now, when I try to go into the users settings(or whatever it's in english, but it asks for password), it gives me the weird sound, but nothing more.
When I type the wrong pass, it says it's wrong, but when I type the good one it does nothing.
Pressing shift at booting doesn't help.
Now I can't do anything with my computer :S.
Help?
Thanks,
Sabzi

What was the OS you had before? Anyway, if it was a MS one, then try the method described in the second post of the following thread
How do I get rid of GRUB? (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=736701)

So I don't really know where to put those commands "fixmbr" and/or "fdisk /mbr".
I tried freedos, but ^.
Then I tried ubuntu live cd which for some reason gives me errors after it loading.
I was trying to give the user "Sabzi" the privilidges back in kubuntu for literally hours with no luck.
I will try kubuntu live cd, maybe there was an error while I burned the cd(with ubuntu).
But can anyone help restoring kubuntu so I can actually use it?
Every time I try something which I found on the internet it gives me errors about authentication failed and "the user is not in the sudoer list".
(I tried things with sudo and things like that.)
It seems that I don't have rights to change the rights of the user which sucks because currently it doesn't have any right. I can't install anything and so on.
I still not understand why I can't go system>user and groups(or something).
It asks for password, I type it in, press okay, nothing happens. Just nothing.
That's tha place I removed myself from groups. (I thought it would give me a warning like: "stupid noob if you do this you will be f****"!)
Or give me a hack which I can set default settings for grub, I don't mind if I always have to choose os in boot, just give my laptop back with nothing deleted(that's why I don't just reinstall) :(:(
Any help greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Now I can't even start kubuntu, because vaio's recovery tools comes up every time I boot without cd.
Let's hope the kubuntu live cd will work, else I am doomed.
Fingers crossed.(writing from other computer)
EDIT EDIT: This time live cd works, let's see if I can fix the problem.
Final edit: Everything is now back to normal, EXCEPT that I still can't do anything with my kubuntu, but I was able to edit the grub config file from live session.(kubuntu is blazing fast compared to windows, tho that's why I want to use it)
Now I know that all I had to do was write "sudo" before commands and don't muck up my whole machine ... It's a bit easier, isn't it?
Wizzup?

A Linux livecd can be very helpful. Can you explain your exact problems? I mean, you kinda did. But then edited several times. You only use sudo for specific (admin) operations. Like editing GRUB. (Which you should always do with care, as you have found out)

Yeah, I saw my huge wall of text at the end. I probably written down everything 3 times. I was nervous , srry.
Main problem: I can't really do anything in my installed kubuntu.
Whatever I try gives me permissions errors.
Most of the time it says "User Sabzi is not in the list of sudoers.", that's when I enter the correct password and of course it says it's wrong password when I enter an incorrect one.
Problem is I can't even change my current permissions/groups settings/privileges(don't know how it's called in linux).
If there is a file that contains these things, I could edit it with the use of the live cd, but I am just switching to linux and never used it before.
p.s.: Again, long text, but it's hard to write down while my os is in hugarian and I am generally a bad explainer.
