View Full Version : Can't open Simba

So I tried to open Simba, to start doing some coding. It will not open, and keeps getting stuck where the screenshot shows.
I've tried rebooting, and re-installing Simba. I've not (yet) tried re-installing Wine. Has anybody got any suggestions?

What version of Wine you got?

I was about to ask who James was, I presume you mean me :3
I was just trying to see if it was an OS specific problem :)
Edit:
harrytorry@harry-desktop:~$ wine --version
wine-1.2.2
Sorry, I'm tired. I thought Camo said he had this problem ^^

He's not having the problem. He was just saying that the first post in your picture was of him but nobody could see his name so they didn't know it was his post. Nothing about the problem or anything.

As dumb as it sounds restart the system. I have had times that wine just crapped out on a session. But shouldn't simba be native to unix systems? I don't know much about it yet.

Simba can't be ran natively on Linux because of the interpreter (PascalScript).
I'll check my version. Also, what version of Ubuntu are you running?

Simba has been running fine for the last month :/

Sorry, I'm tired. I thought Camo said he had this problem ^^You'll want the dev version of wine. Its not in the repos by default.

Also, nothing was changed in Simba, so it has to be something you did on your computer.

Myles, I don't see why a sudden problem would arise now though?
Will I have to add it to my repos?
Yews, I've done nothing to my PC. I didn't even turn it off until the problem came along :)

So you're saying NOTHING at all changed and you suddenly have a problem? :x

Nothing to my knowledge has changed, no. It's confusing to say the least!

So it just brings up the command prompt but never actually starts Simba itself?

Flight, that is correct :)

Well that makes no sense. :/ Looks like you've already restarted your computer, which has never failed me as far as fixing similar problems to this, and I have no idea what "Wine" is. I wonder if maybe it's being blocked by a firewall or maybe even anti virus? Other than that I just don't know what else to suggest.
I'm in the screenshot, awesome.I'm in the screenshot, awesome.

Linux distro's in general, have no Firewall/Antivirus. WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software)) provides the necessary libraries for Windows Executable files (.exe) to run.

I meant come with no default ones installed, and i've not changed them today (or yesterday, if you're going to get pedantic!).
CentOS comes with them? Of course, that is enterprise.
Wizzup?

I personally use the latest WINE 1.3.x releases, but I think 1.2.x should work. Those are the stable release after all. I've had issues with Simba now ``showing''; it's certainly starting according to your screenshot. Try going to a different workspace, sometimes wine places it on a different workspace. Also play with the Show/Hide buttons in the Simba tray.

I've tried pressing the show button, and then checked every workspace. I then pressed the hide button and checked every workspace, just to make sure!

As as last resort you can delete the settings.xml. Perhaps the window is placed outside the screen. (Though compiz should still show it in window list)

Cheers Wizzup, I renamed it (which was as good as deleting it), and it works now!
I'll compare the two documents in a sec :)
Edit;
There appears to be no difference? (http://pastebin.com/diff.php?i=FmzgaSKy)

Smok3, this should fix it if that folder is missing. Obviously change the asterisks to your name :)
mkdir '/home/****/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Simba/Scripts'

Check line 18 of Settings.ini. It should look like this (but to wherever you installed it).
<Scripts>
<Path>C:\Simba\Scripts\</Path>
</Scripts>
If that appears to be correct, then do the following;
Delete the 'Settings.ini' file. That should do the trick :P
