Alright I'm looking to upgrade my AMD Athlon x4 cpu as it does not satisfy me no more.
Should I get a maxed out
AMD Phenom x4 (http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-3-6GHz-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B004LRO9AU/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1302391430&sr=1-15)
or
AMD Phenom x6 (http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-Six-Core-Processor-HDT90ZFBGRBOX/dp/B003FVI2KQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1302391032&sr=1-1)
Or should I go cross fire and get another ATI 5750 1gb (currently have one) + 4gb ram (currently have 4gb)

Post your motherboard so we can make sure everything fits.

Based on those prices the X6 is way better price!
I have a X6 that's 2.8Ghz which with 'trubo mode' goes to 3.4Ghz (I never actually experained this happen), but I OCed it very easily to 3.5Ghz
You can save 20$ if you care, if you get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851&cm_re=amd_phenom_X6-_-19-103-851-_-Product (What I have) and just OC to 3.5Ghz. It runs at like 28C for me IDLE!
Also, why exactly isn't it satisfying you? If it's because games are running slow, I'd say that that has more to do with the video card then CPU, so if it's game then just get another card and crossfire is my opinion. And are you asking if you should get 4 MORE gigs of ram on top your your 4? What would you possibly need 8gigs of ram for?!

Yeah I want the x6 because it looks better and its better for the future. But todays games dont even use more than 4 cores. Anyway I want a new cpu because my computer tends to lag when I am multi tasking between Crysis 2, Need for Speed Shift 2, and GTA 4. The games run perfectly fine however. Also it takes a while to convert videos into different formats and rendering and ripping.
8gigs of ram sound nicer and your computer runs really smoothly lol. I think I might just get that Phenom x6.

The bulldozer by AMD is supposed to come out sometime between now and the end of June, so I'd say wait for that.
However, if you can't wait, get the 1090T, get a good fan/heatsink and over-clock it to the max.

I've used >4gb of RAM when I was botting ~20 accounts at the same time. :p

Get the six core proc and more RAM (or a SSD if you can afford it)

ram's dirt cheap, no reason to not get 8gigs.. when it's <$100
I'd definitely go for the 6 core, much better multitasking.

I think i'll just get the Phenom x6. Wow just read about the bulldozer. It has 8 cores O_O!
Well just got the Phenom x6 for 200 dollars from new egg with free 2 day shipping :), (Amazon wont ship any AMD stuff -_- outside the contiguous U.S). But I also got an extra 4gb ram for 42 dollars!!! Ridiculously cheap from Amazon.
Man I get a boner whenever I buy computer parts!

How the hell doesnt a quad core satisfy you? I have a dual core and it is fine? For everything I do?

This, what the hell do you do with a six core processor?? Hell, my single core (Rated @3.2GHz 800 FSB) worked for me for years!

I never said a quad core doesn't satisfy me. I wanted to upgrade my quad core into something better (I even mentioned upgrading to a maxed out quad core).
I like to multi task with awesome programs/games/software... Unfortunantly they do hog cpu (video rendering, high-def games, botting multiple accounts, etc etc).

More than 4GB RAM? What system ever uses more than 4GB RAM? Oh wait... are you a chrome user?
Perhaps you need to tell us what you don't like about your computers' speed, kingarabian... ;)

Well I ran Photoshop CS5 while running Simba and my computer really started to lag so hard. I thought it was pretty weird. I cannot run more than 3 smarts without serious lag either.

Try running a team of virtual machines. It's pretty tough on your RAM. I'm maxed out with 16 gb at work and wish I could get more.
Also, 6 cores -> multitasking without a hitch, guaranteed.

Guarantee ^. I also heard the more Ram the more merrier if your running more than one operating system on your hard drive.

Going offtopic here, but I am just wondering what you use those VM's for? I always try to avoid them as much as possible, since they're usually not the best solution... Loading an entire OS uses a lot of RAM too.

Some illustrator & adobe flash projects I've done have loaded up 6+ GB of ram
but yea I do run a lot of virtual machines on the norm.. so...

I would have waited for BD or bought Sandy Bridge.
Edit: Actually no, I would have bought a SSD.

Lol haha. Hey so is AMD's bulldozer legit or what? I'm hearing it might finally put AMD on top of intel.

Simulating networks and testing install packages. Windows server 2008 SBS + some clients. The setup lets me test server settings before we push them and lets me tweak applications I'm writing so they'll work on XP forwards (yes, you can laugh here. It shouldn't be this hard to target five versions of one operating system...)

Nobody really knows for sure.
But from the slides AMD has shown and the architecture stuff they have revealed from what I and others have gathered BD will be very powerful for multithreaded tasks.
Can't be sure on if it will compete with Intel on single threaded stuff at clock for clock, but we'll see. If that is the case gamers will probably see more benefit from Intel since they'll have CPU stronger for each individual thread. (maybe)
And if I recall correctly they only doubled the integer cores, so you won't see "8 core" performance when doing stuff that uses a lot of floating point calculations. In theory this will keep BD easier to make, modify, produce etc etc since FPU are expensive. Since most operations that use FPU are highly threaded I think most of the time you are better off using a GPU though, correct me if I am wrong. (thinking of scientific calculations and simulations here0

Depends on the GPU. In general, Nvidia silicon capitalizes on FPU performance, ATI's products capitalize on integer performance.
