Use `export VARNAME="VARVALUE"` to set an environment value in bash.
Also, unless you /need/ to use Apache ANT for something, I suggest installing Lighttpd (http://www.lighttpd.net/) instead. Wizzup uses it, so it must be good! ;)

You're on ubuntu, why not just write apt-get install apache2
mark@M:~$ sudo apt-get install apache2
[sudo] password for mark:

apache2 is already the newest version.

mark@M:~$ nmap localhost

Well clearly I'm missing something because I thought ant was just a make alternative that's cross-platform. :P

sudo apt-get install python26 maybe? Looks like you don't have Python..

This worked thnx, but now i have another problem... cant figure out where i web files with lamp.
but atleast i can see its working in localhost.
Even tough i cant find the example site it does work as you can see here:
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/8920/itwork.png (http://img543.imageshack.us/i/itwork.png/)
BUT i can also not stop it neither can i launch the xampp panel, and i get a bunch of errors if i run any command, this is those i get when i start lamp server:
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/6251/sqlerrorc.png (http://img820.imageshack.us/i/sqlerrorc.png/)
And i must say i understand really little out of this, my linux knowledge is really bad :P
Why are you using XAMPP..?
# apt-get install apache2 libapache2-mod-php5 php5 mysql mysql-server libapache2-mod-auth-mysql php5-mysql phpmyadminI don't know where your files are with XAMPP, but most likely /var/www/htdocs/ or ~/public_html/ or something...:p.

It should be on /var/www
mark@M:~$ cd /var/www/
mark@M:/var/www$ ls
index.html
mark@M:/var/www$
It should be on /var/www
/opt/lampp/htdocs/

No, he had CR's in his script. (^M) CR's must die.
And don't use that LAMP crap, just install all the applications separately or you'll never understand how it works.

Yes i am going to go trough all the steps again in a new wm after seeing to much errors witch is not supose to be there common indeed.
But why not use lamp is this a bad solution if i want to host a website ?
strange thing is (atleast for me) super easy to do in windows, and that make me wonder how much harder can it be in linux :fiery:
