trying to get fedora 15.. (gnome 3) to work with samba to get windows sharing working... it took like 5 minutes to get it working on fedora 14... now I can't get it to work for the life of me on f15..

I got like remote connection stuff all working... web, ts3 server.. pretty much everything in the world working except samba share over a windows network

if anyone could give me a hand, even if you want to remote connect to help.. much appreciated

Never used Fedora... I'm downloading it now. I'll put it on my laptop and try a few things out. When I found a solution for this I'll post.

thanks!

samba has changed a LOT on fedora15.. on 14 there was a little box where you could add a user.. on 15 a bunch of people are having problems & no gui

Samba is pretty straightforward no? Check /etc/samba/smb.conf and that's it.

been through it again and again.. it was straight forward in 14, followed 5+ different tutorial walk through's too

in 15 it doesn't let me add users through terminal.. to samba.. in 14 it had a gui to add users which worked fine.. since this error of adding users nothing lets me login, no tutorial I've followed is able to get it working with 15

Post your configuration file? (And strip out any real private stuff)

Did you start samba? Restart it? Reload it?

yea I always restart it a lot

I just changed the config to this:

http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/install.html#id2551954

[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
netbios name = greg
[share1]
path = /tmp
[share2]
path = /home/greg/Desktop
comment = Some random files

I have nothing real private over this lan, you guys can see all my stuff idc

they said that was bare minimal so I was seeing if that one would work

does samba need permissions for stuff? I know httpd needed permissions to write for some php upload script I did

firewall is allowing samba

Here's mine (Gentoo Linux), stripped: (I also have those workgroup lines)

[Merlijn Share]
comment = Merlijn Public Folder
browseable = yes
create mode = 644
read only = no
valid users = merlijn
path = /home/merlijn
guest ok = no

Perhaps have a look at the example files provided by fedora? That's what I did with gentoo anyway.

where are the examples from fedora?

I did this one:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=203138

not seeing it still, I am starting to think something blocks it from showing... but what? selinux and firewall are allowing it.. is there something else?

I read on this thread

post #20 and 21
