Ello dear fellow members of villavu. I got about 800 to 1K (if its really good deal) to spend on computer this christmas, and I would like to hear your suggestions as I don't know much about them.

What I am looking for:
1) Quad core atleast (But I don't know much about PC, so if there is anything that can perform better please do tell me :P ).
2) 8GB of ram.
3) Games I'd really like to play on quite high detail: GTA IV/ StarCraft two/F1 2011 and the upcoming GTA V

I don't mind prebuild or customized pc (but you'll probably have to help me find links to the parts :( ). I am really looking for about 800 CAD ( I live in canada) either online or in store, and then I will wait until boxing day to buy it.

This thread could probably help other people here as well, so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated and Thanks!

Checkout Newegg.com. I bought all my computer parts from there for about $860 total. Pretty sure they ship to Canada.

Intel is 'better' than AMD in most aspects it's pretty much a fact. but AMD is chpeper.
You can def get a great gaming PC for 800-1K that will last you a long time! Even with an intel processor.

Get an item quad core, 4G or ram (8G if you want, ram is cheap right now)

Idk about Nvidia vs ATI cards, but a nice new one will cost you ~200-250+.

Basically 800-1k is definitely enough for a future proof of powerful gaming PC!
Will post later with actual build and shit.

Start with this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115089
Get any LGA 1155 that looks good to you after research/reading reviews:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627&IsNodeId=1&Description=LGA%201155&name=Intel%20Motherboards&Order=BESTMATCH

I'm a big fan of G.Skill ram, here is some kit that recently won RAM of the month award:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

This is the kit I have and it's GREAT, but sold out right now:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445

Pick any case you wish, full towers are huge but better for wire management/heat etc but Mid towers are a more 'normal' size.

A 750W power supply to be safe, just research and see what's good.

Any size HD you wish, make sure it's a 'newer' one that does 6.0Gb/s not 3.0Gb/s

Just quick notes and tips and shit.

If you want you can get an AMD 6 core processor for about the same price as that, but like everyone says intel is 'better' and faster and I bet even that one I picked will outperform the AMD so probably go intel... :]

I hear buying bundled stuff is bad, forgot why, price I guess not sure?
Maybe I'm wrong though, cant find source.

In that bundle, replace http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148767 with a 1TB+ at least. 500gb is used up quickly. Make sure it's a 6gb/s 7200 RPM 64mb(?) cache one. If you can, that is. Maybe get a 'bit less that that. But make sure it's 6gb/s and 1TB+ @ 7200 RPM. Varying cache.

Only thing I saw by quickly looking over it.

It's a pre-made bundle, can't replace anything.
And yeah hmm I guess I agree, depends on the person/what you do.
But I have a 500G internal and 500G external and use them both quite a bit.
So a 1TB+ HD would be nicer if you think you'd use it all.

I always like choosing each part better than bundles.

Well even if it's a pre-made bundle, they can throw the separate hard drive in there and have the extra storage space along with the pre-made's hard drive.

YoHoJo
12-22-2011, 11:11 PM
Yes very true, you can buy the bundle AND another HD and just throw it in.
I'd just make it from scratch though! :D

Here's a decent setup I made in a few minutes.

Case:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042&cm_sp=Cat_Computer_Cases-_-Spotlight-_-11-129-042

Motherboard & CPU:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157228

Processor:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

Hard Drive (160gb):
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075

Memory (8gb):
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455

Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017

CD/DvD:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827140041

I'm sure I left some things out, considering it's only about $500. Scanning it over, it looks like a pretty decent setup that you can run those games on max quality and still get great FPS.

edit: Ahh, it was the video card I forgot. That bumped it up to $743.

Hmm what the heck dude....? Is all of that stuff even compatible.....???
160gb hd only..? We were just talking about a bigger one?
The CPU/Mobo you posted is only '1.6GHz, Dual-Core', which sucks....
Then you posted a processor, which makes no sense because the mobo already comes with one on it?
The case is a mid tower, yet the motherboard is 'Mini ITX Motherboard'?

Wat?!

got a good "future proofed" build for 1.3k, if you can spare the extra .3

Better fan, and cheaper:
www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181011

Went a little overkill on the CPU and GFX card :p, IF you want to spend more in your range downgrade those and you'll be good! :D

Hmm, looks good and if only i have more money to spend lol:P

Also what determines if my PC is 32 or 64 bit?

but thats called future proofing... ;)

but yeah, you can downgrade the graphics cards and change the CPU to a 2500K and it will be about 200 cheaper

but it will be worth spending the extra

I have built something very similar and can run games like Skyrim, Crysis 2 and many others on the highest settings with nice framerates

~shut

EDIT: the CPU and OS, anythig you buy now will support 64-bit

It's not a brilliant PSU, only 70% typical efficiency, you definitely want more than that (most people here would recommend going for 80+ certified PSUs). The GPU is nice, but if you're like me and want to go into surround gaming, nVidia cards only allow 2 monitors per card (unless it's really high end), whilst ATi allows 3 (4 if you get one of the Flex cards). Micro ATX MoBos put me off a bit if you ask me, don't know why, they just do. And it's integrated graphics, and from my experience, that suggests that it's lower end (don't know conversions so wouldn't know what value that is). Besides that, it's a reasonable setup. The PSU is the only thing I'd stay away from, it doesn't look brilliant, you'd be better off going for a lower powered one, but getting the higher efficiency. The other parts I've named I just wouldn't go for out of personal preference, they're probably more than sufficient.

Processor I believe. All of the newest are 64 bit.
Except ROFL I might be wrong? LOL!? I should know this...
ya I think processor see:

if you dont pay, then not really, but a more efficient one is less likely to do any damage to any components

well you can build a beast pc for 500 dll, but i recommend you to buy one, an alienware m14x will be great i have it and it runs skyrim on ultra setting, its only 1500dll.
