If I were to apply with a script that I based off a different public script, how different would it need to be in terms of variable/constant names, procedure names, and style for getting things done?

Is there a proper way to "paraphrase" a script so I don't look bad to the community?

Thanks!

Completely different. Using another person's procedures or functions just a little 'bit is fine. As long as you credit properly. Though I don't think it's really appreciated as an application shows you know how to script and you know what to do.

You also need to be more active with the community. Simply having a great script is not gonna fly if no one knows who you are, you know?

You also need to have a good attitude along with being community-wise active.

You are allowed to, of course, create a script with inspiration of another person's script. Though, again, it has to be completely yours. If you credit others for what little you do use that's not yours, that should be fine. But every voter has their different opinion.

I did a remake of someone's script and used that along with another script to apply for members. Throughout the process, I remade the script almost completely. I guess that's what you'll have to do.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions!

Nosaj, I think your suggestion sounds intriguing. It seems as if that's what I was headed towards. I found a dysfunctional script that I wanted to use, and as I went ahead and fixed parts, I'm learning more and more. Hopefully I'll be able to understand the entire thing, and make my own. Hope to see you in the members section in the future!

P.S. - oh and RISK, your sig is quite funny!

P.P.S. - Yanhua's looking at this thread... He's exactly who I am talking about!

That's actually what I did. I wasn't happy with the banking and walking at all (that time I was completely new and knew nothing about SRL include, and the banking was so bad that it failed like 50% of the time)

But always remember you have to be original with your script. ie. Start with a complete rewrite of the script. That way you're inspired by someone instead of copying someone's work.

I believe the community appreciates it if you take the time reviving a deprecated script.
