View Full Version : Iphone 4 AutoRestart problem
My sis gave me an iPhone 4 cause she got a new one, but with one catch.
I had to fix it :P
what happens is when you are using it, it will be fine txting and other junk but when ever i browse the internet or open any app it just flicks black turns of and restarts.
it eventually gets so bad that it doesn't even get time to turn back on!
I have wiped it and done a factory restore 2 times going on a 3rd now but the problems still occur.
Not an iPhone 4s
any help will be much appreciated and save me $280 getting in fixed.

Probably won't amount to anything bu open up an Apple support ticket, can't hurt.
Has it ever had water damage? Or been jailbroken or custom baseband?

has been jail broken but there should be no trace of it after it was factory restored.

What was used to jailbreak it? Because when they exploit the bootrom (l1mera1n), factory restore does not affect that, only the actual iOS jailbreak (there are 2 levels required for jailbreak)
Try rejailbreaking with newest redsn0w. May redo the bootrom exploit as a bug in that could be causing your issues.
sydia or something
Apparently support tickets cost?

Are you running the latest firmware from iTunes?

Cydia is an app installed after you jailbreak. It allows you to add modifications and 3rd party apps. It's like a jailbreak AppStore but is not the actual jailbreak. Most common would be RedSn0w or Greenpois0n. Absinthe is newest which is a collaboration between RedSn0w and GreenPoiS0n among other people (4s and ipad2 only).
In the jailbreaking process, they first exploit the bootrom which then allows the to exploit iOS which then allows them to install cydia and enables you to install other 3rd parry apps.

You can't undo the bootrom exploit, best you can do is redo it. There's no guarantee that it is what is causing the problems but bad bootrom exploits have done pretty strange things in the past.

Trolololollll, anyway. Find out what Iphone you have, what firmware you have then head over to Iclarified.com they have tutorials for just about everything, To find out what firmware you have go to Settings->general->about screen it'll say the space left on it, and somewere your firmware version. If you look up the full firmware version name you can also find out what type of Iphone you have. They all usually have different ones. If the app doesn't open you jailbreaked with the wrong stuff. Use RedSnow they usually work. I don't see why apps don't work after restore, but Good luck.
Also if worst comes to worst find out if it has a warranty, or take it to someone who does repairs on Iphones locally. If you pay 200$ to get it repaired you might aswell pay $300 or w/e amount to get a new one. Don't believe me? I had a ps3 I paid 150$ just to get sent back another refurbished one that broke in a month. When I could've bought a new one for 300$ just my advice.
