Cooling Fan help.

Hey, guys, I'm having to use my old Windows Vista computer, and the reason is because I accidently dropped my Compaq Pavilion CQ56, AMD processor, on the floor, and the cooling fan got disconnected. I wanted to see what you guys did, if you've had the same problem, even with a different computer. I want to go in, and take a look, but I don't want to ruin it. I also don't want to try and use it, because it'll warp the motherboard. I wanted to get some advice on what I should do.

Get a screwdriver, open it, put it back together, enjoy.

its pretty easy to reconnect the cooling! But if you are really worried about doing it yourself just take it to your local computer shop. It will probably only cost about £15 which is nothing really.

you cant actually destroy anything as long as you wear anti static gear and don't hit it with a hammer i would say the same as Frement Suit up and screwdrivers at the ready!

Use to happen to me, tried a lot of stuff... Nothing worked. I bought a fan cooler off EBAY, that did somewhat of a job.

I find that they are too unique in the way they do it on you tube (and usually have terrible camera angles), I prefer to do online tutorials (pics n text). Although if this guy is taking apart his computer I cannot stress how much he needs a tutorial, whatever kind he chooses.

When my vista started having the same problem i.e. fan noise above normal, I took it to a computer repair shop nearby and the guy fixed it up for $10. Do not risk frying your motherboard by trying to be the hero; take it to someone who knows a thing or 2 about computer repairs.

I do my own laptop repairs and student laptop repairs and I have yet to fry a motherboard or anything like that.

Lol, I already fixed it. All it was was the cooling fan connector came loose. Put it back in, and locked it, (Had a little tab thingy to lock it with) Put it back together, and BAM! I fixed it. The only thing I'm noticing, is it is making this high pitched whine.. Anybody got any clues?

The bearings in the fan are going, new cpu fan will solve this

Nope, I dont see why it would fry anything. It just sounds like your bearings are going and your gonna have to get a new fan. 10-30 dollars im guessing.

yea laptops are the most hard to work with... soo many more intricate parts than a desktop

Sorry man I must have read your post wrong, it could damage your components if it gets hot enough. But alot of computers have a shut off when it gets to a certain temp. I dunno if that is attached to your heat sink tho?
I would maybe make up a lil fan to put underneath. Be careful and dont let it get too hot.

Afaik, warranty covers it.
Do you have a warranty of the laptop?

i know how to fix this is it the cooling fan attached to the cpu where is the cooling fan supposed to be exactly is it one of the big copper ones that attaches to the cpu is it just the normal fan that comes stock often with the computer that attaches all details i need to know to help you
