Hi,

I'm looking to start Java programming this summer because it will give me an advantage next year (going to study ICT/programming I guess that's how you translate it). I'm not sure where to start, so far I've only been scripting for Simba and not for anything else.

I'm looking for some beginner guides to start coding in Java. Dutch guides are preferred but my English is alright so English guides are fine aswell. A friend of mine has send me this pdf which looks interesting: (Dutch)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/fsl6t7itkvrrksi/Bijlessen%20IOO.pdf

I understand the idea behind 1-14 already but after that there is a part with user interfaces etc. which I've never worked with before. It looks really interesting but I'm kind of lost where to start. With Pascal scripting I basicly started to watch some of YoHoJo's videos and some tutorials and started to do my own stuff and a couple weeks later I really started to get the hang of it and made some extremely large working scripts.

Anyways. Where to start? Is going through all the stuff in the pdf a good starting idea?

Thanks for the link & talk on Skype. Seems like I will follow like all the guides there.. after working through the .pdf. Got some simba related stuff that I want to finish first though!

Why not get involved in some java bots, if some are live. I am not sure any still working. I studied java to make bots for nexus. Making bots make it interesting to learn. I learned java during study, that was boring.

I need some tutorials to get started, once I have basic/intermediate knowledge about Java I will probably start scripting for Java bots as it is indeed interesting. That is also the reason why I joined this community :P

I am dutch and now Java. If you really have some troubles with java it is possible to add me on msn.

edit:
Follow that pdf, it starts with OOP, and that is the best start there is! I personally think it will teach you to be a better programmer then Xtrap his link, no offense.

You can start coding java bots at merchanting.net. Here, to be exact. (http://merchanting.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?321-ColBot-Development) They have a color based java bot there, ColBot. It looks like powerbot the last time I saw it. Still in alpha stage though.

I also recommend actually getting into a java programming class.

Isn't RuneDream a colour based java bot as well?

Don't know. I never used them because I heard there were hackings from them and why should I when I am perfectly content with simba? ;)

I started making android apps right off the bat. At first it may seem confusing, but after you realize what each function does and how it interacts with the next, it all becomes clear java programming to you

I will be getting java programming lessons next year but I want to start this summer already :P
That color bot looks pretty interesting but then written in Java I guess :P

Pretty sure it is as far as I know..
Unfortunately you have to register so I'll check it out later.

Yeah I could do that but I don't want to learn stuff in the wrong way eg. standards etc.

Thanks for all the help so far. :)

Codingbat has some good beginner practices for once you have learned the basics :)
Used it in my Computer Science class last year, too bad I didn't save all of our lesson Power Points :P

Don't bother with RuneDream, I'm ex moderator Eric Clapton... was one of the first mods... Their team of admins is among the worst
