View Full Version : DVD Rippers?
I'm having trouble finding a DVD ripper that you don't have to pay for and doesn't leave a watermark. I looked and all of them cost money or only do like 10 minutes of ripping. Any suggestions?
Anything windows compatible.

Torrent :)

suggesting everything, torrent. Don't even rip the dvd, just torrent the dvd. If you have fast internet and its popular you'll get faster anyhow :P

^^^Right, screw formalities. Just torrent it. If you still want the DVD ripper, Mac or Windows?

Handbrake  hated that one. It took like 12 hours to do a movie.
It's the one I use right now, but I'm looking for something more efficient and less... crashy?
It's probably a lot easier to torrent them. DVD quality is pretty bad compared to bluray 720/1080p.
There are a few websites with quite a large library of movies out there.

Worked great, very easy.

I would also have to vouch for Handbrake.
And ___, I once had the same problem as you too (being that it takes a very long time to rip a movie). But, I just fiddled around with various settings (forget which ones, sorry, I haven't used it in a long time), and it spat out a smaller file (~1gb) with no perceivable quality loss. :)

yea handbrake isn't too userfriendly & it uses VLC to decrypt while ripping now, I think that's why so many people have problems with it
I really like it though, I copy paste dvd's as their files and then move to 24core Linux server.. that thing craps out a 2 hour movie in like 10 seconds lol

Hmm... I'll try to fiddle around and see what I can do. It tends to crash a lot though... as in when I try to do a movie it just closes.
Thanks YohoJo! Looking into that now!
EDIT: Elby costs money yoho...
I have:
DVDfab
Dvd Rip
Full Dvd Ripper Free
Dvd Shrink
DVDDecrypter
Handbrake
all newest versions.

wanna be mod here ;)
just ganna remind you of le rules before anyone gets infracted.
Illegal Torrents / Warez:
The posting of or linking to warez, illegal torrents, cracks, keygens, serials, authentication bypass guides or any other illegal copyrighted material is at no time permitted on the forums. This obviously does not include legal torrents such as the ones provided by Canonical for the Ubuntu distro.

No one linked to any warez or torrents, they were only suggesting the use of torrents instead of ripping dvds.

^your still posting of them js.
Torrents are old. It's all about NZBs.

Sorry... but all the links here are to licensed products. If they are licensed then they aren't illegal.
Can we please get back to the topic?

Tech they weren't posting of warez or *illegal* torrents.
They just said torrents. Which by themselves are legal.
Now if someone posted a link/guide on getting to some specific movie torrent, that would be against the rules.

good software to convert too, especially if the ripper is restricted like handbrake to only two? codecs

Ok, the next person who says Torrent is going to get an infraction...
He didn't ask alternatives and torrenting has already been suggested.
There is no point in suggesting the same thing 20 times over.

True enough. ___ You have yet to reveal your settings. Maybe we can help enough to get the optimal ones. :)

i would suggest trying audials moviebox, but it's not a freeware. it depends how many dvds you want to rip, if you're doing this regularly, i guess you could think about investing into a good soft..otherwise probably not. but yeah, this would be my recommendation, because you get some extra features besides the dvd ripping part, you get to record videos and convert them to multiple file formats (avi, wmv, 3gp, mp4, even audio: mp3) and remove protection from drm protected files for example. anyway, you can take a look here (http://audials.com/en/moviebox/index.html) and see what is does and how it functions exactly.
