A SRL RS Private Server

For Script testing/development ???

Sure its probably been thought of before but .... We Dont Have one Right??


If anyones up for it or got any ideas let me know ... i own a server could probably have one up and running in say 20 mins .. altho it would take some work setting it up afterwards

(above was a joke :p) While that's an interesting idea, it would take ridiculous amounts of effort (nigh impossible with the amount of capable and available people we have) to have one that is kept up to date with the actual Runescape servers. Getting access to their server code isn't a simple copy paste procedure and instead takes large amounts of dedicated time - for each any every patch if we wanted to stay up to date for scripting/test development.

Won't happen. We can't give Jagex a reason to take us down, you could call it the unofficial SRL server, but you would have to claim to have no affiliation with the SRL/Villavu website.

Yeh true but then it dont have to be anything to do with srl .. but then its not my fault if only we know about it .. lack of advertisment

No need to pay for it, i can host it myself.
But only over a VPN(Like Hamachi) which shouldn't be a problem since there isn't going to be a "Public" server.
+ Got some experience with RS-P servers ;)

Hamachi is TERRIBLE. Laggy, unsafe, and annoying to use, outdated, and most base sources don't work with it anyway.

If it's going to be hosted it shouldn't be laggy -.-

... I Have A Server .. 2gb ram half deciant processor somting like 3tb bandwidth and half a dozen extra ipv6 ips ( not sure they'll help tho)

1GB of RAM? You can try I'm no expect on that type of stuff, I just know then it comes to Hamachi it's the worst

edit lol typo should be 2gb of ram ... i dunno realy could do with some people with some knowlage of java lol . ican get it running but im not the best person to manage it altho ill learn :)

If it's unofficial. And I could only see this being useful for perfecting scripts & random-solvers in OSRS. If you're looking for servers I'd say the popular #377 is your best bet for making an oldschool clone, for this purpose. You might try one of these:

Every point you made is false.

"Laggy" The only time Hamachi is "Laggy" is when:
A) The cumputer that is hosting the Hamachi server has a poor connection or computer.
B) The Hamachi Logon-servers are running poorly.
C) You live too far apart from the host that a stable ping is close to impossible.

"Annoying" The Hamachi client itself are one of the cleanest and simplest i've ever come across over.

"Outdated" Hamachi haven't been updated in a few months but do it need to ? Every function you can think about is in the client.

However most of the sources already have and IP to connect to by default, but are able to change that IP.

Let's summarize:
Hamachi is in fact a fast piece of software when used right.
Hamachi isn't annoying at all.
Hamachi does have everything you need therefore not outdated.

1 GB RAM(2 GB RAM like he updated) and a decent connection is more than enough to host a RuneScape Private server for 10 + connections.

You have to rewrite all the serverside code, unless people here can grab it from their servers some magical way..

most games like that, SA-MP is the best example.. you have to 100% strip out all AI and rewrite it.

Have you EVER used hamachi with a RSPS? It's HORRID. Compare using hamachi to host to actually hosting it. It's a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE.

NOTE: If we want this private server to help bypassing BotWatch or solve randoms we need the server files from JageX directly every time they do an update.

That's the biggest and in the end, only real problem of doing things like this.. I host legal games for anyone, no problem.. but getting the code would be, in the end, worthless compared to just testing scripts on the real game

Yes i have and the connection was stable at around 50-200 can give you an exact number since i didn't feel like getting the PING time.
In other words it was just as smooth as the regular servers.

A software firewall may protect you but if your attempting to play games which require hamachi to work it is generally because your attempting to support a legacy app which uses something like IPX/SPX or so many ports that your firewall would look like Swiss cheese anyway and be virtually ineffective."

It's still much more easy to run normally, nobody in the RSPS hosting scene using Hamachi anyway (unless they have a dynamic IP...even then usually get a vps)

Easier,no.
However it's possible if the virus it self is programmed some way to recognize if hamachi is running and then add a new network to hamachi and then connecting and start sending data.
Security risk = Close to none.

I don't think you can accept donations for hosting a RSPS, I've seen other servers get shutdown for doing so.
I think it's also where the cache is located as it is copyrighted
