I don't consider myself a theologian, not by any means, but I do believe devoutly in God and Jesus Christ. However, I am NOT a creationist, and do believe that God and science can co-exist, regardless of whether some believe that..."As science is solving all of life's problem, there is becoming little need for god".
I am also a very rational person however it is human nature to want to believe in things that aren't tangible. Just as science has theories of where the universe came from, is it not fair, not right for religion to theorize about the origins of the universe?
Let's examine one of the most widely proliferated scientific theories of creation: the "Big Bang". I'm no astronomer but as far as I know the theory is as follows. At some point, for some reason, an extremely dense pocket of matter and space exploded and started expanding and formed what is today our universe.
I can't really prove or disprove this unless I go back billions, maybe trillions of years. But this theory centres around one thing: there was that pocket of matter in space. Where did this matter come from? Did it simply "come into existence"? Well, that's possible, but only with the help of a higher power, God. For life to exist in our universe, many things had to occur favourably, and everything had to come from somewhere. I find it too hard to believe that this is a coincidence.
Now its all well and good for people to say that God doesn't exist, because he doesn't send angels to bring you good fortune, nor does he use his power to protect everyone from harm.
No offence, but I find this attitude rather cynical. ( I hope nobody attributes this as "flame"). The only reason that there are wars and greedy people is that God gave us free will when he created us. Of course he has a plan for us, but he does not force people to accept it.
What has God ever done? Well, aside from creating us, redeeming us from sin by sacrificing his own son, and bestowing his love on us each and every day...well...I suppose not much. But if that's not good enough for you, I don't know what is.
