I believe in God/Jesus as role models and guidelines - more of ideas than physical things. I also wear a WWJD wrist bracelet (not right now - my last one broke. I've been through at least 3) and it's helped me a couple of times. Some of my peers ridicule me for it (dam atheist kids always think I'm extremely religious), but most weeks I don't go to church. To me it's like wearing something that says WWMD (What would macgyver do).
I don't completely believe in god. I think their just figment of imagination made by earlier generation, as something to rely upon in times of hardship, basically a place they got hope from, and nowadays its a moneymaking scheme in some places...That sucks.:(

Please forgive me for bumping this thread, as it is a little more than one month old, but frankly I see this as an exception. I was happy with the poll results (over 50% were religious) but I think that was most likely because many Christians such as myself felt that it was important to participate in it. I am, however, disappointed in the creator of this thread. I can give you plenty of good reasons as to why, but lets start with "Where did the big bang come on?" "Where did the bacteria that supposedly evolved into man come from? A collection of atoms with static electricity?" As Einstein once wrote, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
It's simple for me to understand, and IMO, it's kinda sad that so many people are so prepared to shout in your face that "MEN HAVE CREATED DREAMS SO THEY CAN LIVE WITH THEMSELVES!" And when it comes to that garbage, I get pretty angry - Why? Because you can't create life with science - You can make this weak imitation of it.
i didnt take time to read all 12 pages of this, but my stand is yes im a religious person, everything has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is god. i mean it took so much out of him to make everything that he had to rest after it was created...

Theres another interpretation, and frankly I don't believe this prophecy refers to the Twin Towers, because it speaks of "And on every lofty mountain and on every high hill there will be rivers and streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall."
This would make perfect since, but I haven't heard about streams of water on 'Every lofty mountain and on every high hill' so I think that it meant the Tower of Babel, switching Slaughter with Destruction, that would make even more sense.

Lots of people generalize religion to be one big blob of goo. This is just one of the slime balls who think that religion was created out of man's insanity. They look at the theories, stamp it as good or evil, ignore all the history that is put into some of them, and then walk away, shaking their heads. This particular slime ball(Creator of this thread) agrees with some angry fool who thinks that his rights are being invaded for his being ignorant. Why am I calling him ignorant? Despite his not believing in God, he doesn't even seem to know America's history. America has a Christian Policy, for the most part, until lawyers come and screw things over. How do we know that there wasn't another tower that fell with the Tower of Babel? The only way that it could be a prophecy about 9/11 would be if streams was referring to tears.

before the big bang, time did not exist. therefore, there is no "before" the big bang, in much the same way that you christians believe that before the earth, only god existed, and there is no "before" god existed.

there are 2 theories as to the original developement of life, as i have a biology exam in three hours, both are still pretty fresh in my mind.
the first theory is chemical evolution.
this states that 3.5-4BYA, the gasses in the atmosphere, combined with the huge lightning storms at the time, produced amino acids(google "urey and miller experiment" for evidence), amino acids eventually formed nuclei(a singular nucleus) and after that a cell membrane
hence prokaryotic cells were formed.

second theory:
as there was no ozone layer at the time of formation of the first cells(3.5 BYA) there were alot of meteors crashing into the earth(for evidence, look at the moon, you notice alot of meteor craters? notice the moon has no ozone? 1 + 1 = 2)
in the 1970's several tests were done on meteors that had recently hit earth, it was found that the meteors actually contained biologically viable(i.e. could eventually form into cells under the right conditions) amino acids.

it was based on random events, but these random events had millions of years to happen, so something that was once a 1 in 1000000 chance becomes 1 in 2, or 1 in 1 1/2

most christians/jews believe that moses wrote the pentacost, however the differences in writing styles in each of the books is so varied that its next to impossible that this could have happened.
and what stuff could we not have "known" 1400-3000 years ago? that MAYBE, some time in the next 100, 000 years, 2 buildings might fall down at the same time? this isnt divination, its a fairy tale that just happened to tell of something which, if twisted the right way, resembles an occurance which happened recently.

for the most part, athiests only want to be left alone as far as their religious choices are concerned. we dont walk around with personal charms which show us to be athiests, like you do with a cross, usually hung around your neck.
if jesus(provided he WAS the son of god) came back as told in the bible, dont you think the last thing he would want to see is a reminder of the most painful thing he ever had to experience as a human?
i think the reason the poll scored 50% was because about 50% of people here are christians. that was the purpose of the poll, and therefore, one can only conclude that that is an accurate result.
i for one, am NOT scared of any judgement passed(provided a theistic god exists) for these reasons:

-god made this world so complex so that we would be intrigued enough to observe it in the most minute detail
-god gave us brains capable of reasoning so that we would question everything. if he gave us brains, and expected us to follow blindly, then he is obviously a very sadistic being.
-god made me the way i am, he made me in such a way that i would attempt to find flaws in every arguement in order to better my understanding of the world.

this was just a solution for all the helium in the sun and universe...Scientist found it impossible for the sun to produce that much helium, so one man...forgot his name came up with this theory...
There is evidence to support this theory to...There was a giant ear piece like thing that was owned by the government to pick up radiation sounds to find dence parts of the universe...As they heard crackly radio signals which showed dence parts of the universe they sometimes they got a almost perfect, clear, buzzing sound...They believe this to be because of the Big bang.
So for all you atheists out there, don't try disprove god if you can't make up for all the helium in the universe...
