I read about this a couple of weeks back. The article I read didn't list her other computer specs, but I'm sure her son provided more than necessary hardware. It's true you wouldn't be able to use all that capacity for downloading, but you'd be a seeding god.

hard drives write at about 60-70Mb/s so that would be her max download limit.
of course, if it were just being stored in her ram, it would have a write time of about 100ms, so, say, a dual xeon server with 32gig of ram and a bunch of HDD's in a raid array, you would get full download speeds :P

You guys do realise, that even though she has a maximum download speed of 40 gigs a second, the people that she is downloading from would have nowhere near that speed in upload, therefore, she downloads at their upload speed.
That's why you get bittorrent and download 1000 torrents at once to an array of 30 hard drives :p
