If you didn't know, they actually have hardware key loggers that you can buy. You just plug them into the keyboard input and plug the keyboard into that. Really cool but they can get pretty expensive too.
Not sure if it works while logged off, but a really good Keylogger is BPK.

i once coded one in visual basic but deleted it. It also saved the text log to C:\Log.txt. Worked very well, i would send it but i dont have it anymore :(

I think ardamax works.. Easy to get cracks to that too. I also coded one on vb once, but it's currently detected so it's no fun actually.. But I suggest trying ardamax.

I've heard that you can hack a XP if you run it through safemode. You'll automatically goto the admin and when doing that you can change the passwords.
I haven't tested it though.
Presuming that you have access to an account with restritcted access, use this exploit I found in my many hacking adventures years ago.
So simple, when I did it on my own machine it made me shed a tear.

No need for keyloggers.
You will then be in the SYSTEM account, meaning you can access all your girlfriends dads file (meaning you dont have to change the password to his account either). I'm presuming this is why you wanted to keylog him.

Why does she need admin? all she has to do if she wants admin is go to run->cmd-> net localgroup(get the name of the admins group(it can be called admin,admins,administrator,administrators, then type- net localgroup (name of admin group) (name of her acc on the comp) /ADD
so an example woulld be net localgroup administrators Test /ADD
that should do the trick if she wants to be admin or something
