Cannabis, Your vote/ideas

Well i don't know if anybody saw this on the demonoid forum a while back but it was the most interesting conversation i have read for a while. Just take a minute to vote what you think should happen and your arguments about it.
By the way cannabis is weed for all you who are absent to the drug world.

As of my view, I think it should be decriminalized because there a facts showing it is less harmful than most legal drugs today. It is also a hard drug to get addicted to and is less damaging than cigarettes. There have also been studies that proved it does not ALONE cause cancer. Plus its good as shit!!!

It's legal here, no need to legalize it.
Few things, you can only have a few grams, and having the plants is illegal. Buying the drugs isn't, pretty weird laws :confused:

this is based on several of jhildy's points that I agree with. Studies have shown alcohol to be a more deadly and dangerous substance, however it is still legal. Plus even though it is STILL a dangerous substance, teenagers will less likely be using it in the future because they are ALLOWED to have it...it will become less of a big deal to smoke weed.

I for one have never done it, but I do think it would solve many problems if it were to be decriminalized. I DO not think that it should be legalized in the sense that you are allowed to buy it from stores, gas stations ect. That would only enhance the problem.

Thats my stance on the issue anyway ;)

IMO it should be legalized.. Why?

Because it's not harmful as far as I know, except I think it can cause some damage if you do it too young, and even tobacco is more harmful.. I also think people should be allowed to choose if they want to smoke it or not as people can choose not to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes too and as far as I know they're sort of drugs too..

And cannabis being illegal doesn't effect that much as people can still get it from pretty much any big town or city if they really want to, and the fact that it's illegal just makes the price higher as it's harder to get, and it also causes alot of trouble to the country itself as there's loads of people are in jail because of it and it's not free to keep people there.. And after someone is released for let's say dealing drugs there's a quite high risk the person does it again because criminals don't get jobs too easily and money doesn't grow in trees and it may be quite profitable too, atleast more money than you get from some shit job you're actually taken to, specially if the person doesn't have a too great education.. And that just causes a circle of jail => freedom => jail and so on...

In my opinion the netherlands way would be the best ;)

I don't see those people too scary or harmful, more harmful people are the ones that are addicted to the harder drugs that mess up their head so they can go crazy at you or it forces them to steal because they're so addicted to the shit they need to dig the money from wherever they can.. But weed isn't that addictive, I've heard it's about as addictive as tobacco, and you need to smoke tobacco many times every day for a quite long time to actually get addicted to it.. Random smoking won't get you addicted.

The thing about that is, I'm pretty sure it does destroy your braincells.

There was this girl I liked at college, always really chatty and full of life, then she smoked a sh*t load of green in two years and became really slow. She'd speak like 'helllooooo'.

Was ludacris.

I'm pretty sure it does change people, but it's still fun to smoke from time to time.

Mmm.. I read somewhere that if you smoke it when you're under 16 years old or that if your brains haven't developed enough it does some damage to some brain stuff...

E: There's also this one drunk that lives nearby me that's always walking around "talking" to people.. Just like "hey! grrmmffhhhmmmhmmfffflffllllfff..." XD

weed does burn/kill your brain cells, but people don't really become 'slow' like some of you said. i know a guy who's been smoking up a lot since he was like 15, he isn't slow, but his brain is so fucked he plays football by himself the whole afternoon. if you throw a ball he'll go and get it, running, with a smile on his face 90% of the time.

and high people are pretty harmless. like sporky said a group of stoned people will eat your whole fridge, no doubt of that, but they would barely ever lift a finger to hit you. even if they tried they'd burst out laughtin.

Here, in The Netherlands, using cannabis is tolerated.
The actual percent of people using cannabis in the United States is alot higher than the cannabis usage in The Netherlands.
Doing 'illegal' stuff is just cool, every teenager boy wants to be illegal and some sort of rebel. Most of the people that live in The Netherlands (or at least here, in Amsterdam :p ) are familiar with weed. Mainly because it is legal, and it the actual 'woot im so cool i'm doing something illegal' -kick is absent.

bleh.. keep it illegal in US... if you make bud legal, soon people will want coke, heron, asid, and X to be legal... bad enough we got all these stupid perscription pills legal... americans are dumb enough, dont make things worse... (YES I AM American.. NO I'm not dissin anyone directly) but seriously look at this country, goin down the tubes...

Not to start an argument or anythin, but i hate people who say bud doesn't effect people... because it does... trust me, I've smoked more than i can afford ;) but IMO its not even worth it... not worth the money, not worth me havin a GED instead of HS diploma, not worth gettin arrested, and def not worth losin your memory... the human brain isn't like a comp... cant go to the store and buy some more.. ;)

Yeah, smoking cigars and cigarettes used to be a status symbol. Then it was kind of cool and counter-culture. Now it's pretty well shunned by everyone as unhealthy, expensive, and kind of pointless.

You have to remember that there are wildly different demographics in the Netherlands than there are in the US, so a direct comparison isn't very valid. for example, the US has a younger population than the Netherlands, and marijuana use is much higher in young people. We also have a larger black population, and they use marijuana at a much higher rate as well.

As for addiction , every thing is addicting to some extent. Weed is much less addicting than alcohol and tobacco IMO.

pretty much if your the type of person who likes to get fucked up then it would be hard to stop any drug because of the desire to feel good.

Again i have only been toking up since april last year and i guarentee you i could stop 100% but i have yet to notice any hold backs from it. I play sports and my lungs are fine. I get very good grades in school. I am still active and not a burnout.

A LOT of skateboarders smoke. 75% of the people who skate in my town/ the last town I lived in & skated (fairly large amount) smoked either/or cigarettes & weed. & my bro skates so I know a lot of his friends who smoke.

There was another school shooting here in the US. Normal kid. Great student. Won awards and stuff in college. Then he 'went off his meds' for two weeks and started behaving very erratically. Then we walks on campus with a gun and kills 11 people before killing himself.

Screwing with your head is stupid. They haven't released what 'meds' he was on, but I still think people need to think before taking ANY drug that will alter your mental perceptions of reality. I know too many people that started taking this or that to feel better about themselves or help with depression or help them sleep, and then they end up utterly dependent on all their psycho-active drugs just to try to stay normal.

Look at Brian Wilson. He was a musical genius. He wrote all the famous Beach Boys songs. Then he got depressed and some quack put him on powerful psychotropic drugs to treat it. Now he's practically a vegetable.

these drugs control you cannabis does not pyschoactive drugs do and thats why they are illegal they are hallucageans(sp) see and taking pills or shrooms is a lot easier than shitting it a bucket letting it ferment then huffing the fumes. personally that is disgusting but thats not illegal dont ask me why i brought this up i felt like saying that

Its interesting how the US doesn't legalize it. Its like they are against another substance that is smoked yet... cigarettes and other "herbal leafs" are legal. There is in fact legal herbs that do the exact same thing as what weed does to you. Its almost as if the US makes more money keeping it illegal then what they would if it was legal. Still makes me wonder.

Legalize it... I have personally done 3 research reports and 2 speeches on why marijuana should be legalized in the US. Religious uses, medicinal uses, economic uses, and of course it just brings some people pleasure. Many more reasons and I could go on for pages with details in each. It's not harmful, make it legal.

Though you are right about not getting an OD from the marijuana, you are in a certain way wrong about the related deaths. Keyword being "certain", it's not the marijuana that gets you, but the crap they lace it with and you don't know about.
I once had a nice batch of weed laced with LSD, what was to be a nice relaxing evening turned out the be a night of panic and paranoia cause i thought aliens where coming to get me each time i saw the headlights of the cars through the window.

So, while it is physically impossible to overdose, you still can end up in a very bad spot, hurt and even killed cause of the laces,
