How to bypass ALL school web filters

This short tutorial will tell you how to browse any website bypassing any web filter on a school computer.

Materials:
A flash drive
Portable tor (http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...roup_id=194105)
Portable firefox(http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable)

Setup:
1) install portable tor to your flash drive
2) install portable firefox to your flash drive
3) run portable firefox from your flash drive, and install this addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2275)

Normal Use:
4) Run portable tor. You may close the dialog that pops up. It will run in the background as privoxy and tor (the blue p and green onion next to your clock)
4) When firefox restarts, or you restart it manually, you see will the words "Tor Disabled" in red at the bottom right corner of the application. Click this once so that it reads "Tor Enabled" in green if it does not say this already.
5) Begin browsing. The internet may be a little slow and your google may be in a different language (usually german), but that is because your webpages are being routed around the world.

ehh, alot of school computers (in ohio in particular) will not allow you to copy or run a .exe program from a memory stick. thus ruining this plan.

but if your school doesn't care, this is a good tut. or use a proxy :P

Hm, I've never seen that in california. and i'm too lazy to make a tutorial about proxies. Web proxies are very limited(no https and poor script support for most of them, not to mention they are often blocked), and regular proxies are difficult to find(good/fast ones) and difficult to use for beginners. Thanks for the comment, though!

Edit: The installation is taking forever.

Sounds good, although I am skeptical since many schools also block firefox.exe, other programs may only be run under certain names (test1 for example), so when I use firefox no page will load.

this would work only if my school didnt have their servers down at DownTown 40 miles away from my school.

Tor would take so long to load and DeepFreeze along with my school's Net security would delete it as soon as it gets installed... :(

well don't install it on your school's computers! thats the point of the flash drive, so that the school doesn't have power over it.

Well count websense out, cause it failed =/.

What websense mainly does is that it re-directs you to an unreachable server.
So when you type in myspace/runescape/youtube, it re-directs you to http://10.10.0.39:15871/cgi-bin/bloc...ion=1176105320

Yea my school doesnt allow users to execute .exes on the computers, and rightfully so, I could only imagine what a keylogger would do....

this doesnt work at my school they blocked the port runescape runs on

Does this work on a Mac?

Our school blocks EVERYTHING at router level, except ping packets and the proxy which blocks everything. Runescape should work on it if I could get the client to load in some way. TOR doesn't work.

Great tut; I already do this at my school... Eventually they will figure it out but for now it works great.

Wow - your school's pretty extreme. My school's a joke, you can use bat-files, vbs scripts, and their proxy only works in IE.

Have you tried getting at the RS client directly, with SMART?

@Spky: My school too :( Try to run an Exe, it says "This has been canceled by your administrative privileges" or something like that -_-

You guys having problems with this way?
1. Go to www.samair.ru/proxy/ AT HOME!!!
2. Write down a few proxy address and ports.
3. At school open internet explore or what browser you use. (My school Firefox.)
4. goto tools
5. goto options
6. Goto connections
7. Goto Lan settings/Connections
8. Enter the proxy address and port.
9. Click accept/Apply/o.k
10. Surf!

Lol didn't even try for a 10 step plan.

I've attempted to do the same thing and my website is not able to run the index.php file...
did you just upload and use? or did you have to change some things?

My school blocks just about everything. I can't even open up the options in IE. They also will check what your doing if the page your looking at even contains the word "proxy."

i tried it today at school and it worked awesome... super rep point...

Can use bat files, vbc etc too. I can install Firefox too, but still can't get by the freaking proxy,

Unfortunately Fortiguard does block all the worlds. Strangely it blocks kaitnieks.com too, and MITB.

its a good tut but i cant use cause the only time we have acces to comps is during study hall and get pass 2 library and the librarians can like see what ur doing on ur computer from their computer.

I've Been Trying To Get Round Websense for ages, and every time i do, they realise within an hour or so :( and now im permently banned for making myself an admin account (called GOD lol :)) and then for hacking into the security cameras ;p but it was fun :) what they don't realise is most of the dumb ass students have there password as qwerty so i just use other peoples accounts.

but as for the idea of using firefox of a flash drive, my school have banned .exe's from flash drives, and running of the computer the anti virus would realise within like 30 mins, but, i had this idea, i can run flash files of my usb, so can we embed a prroxied internet browser into a flash file?

Just get a U3 enabled device it will let you run programs from it that might work ill try this on monday when i get to school

I highly doubt so considering that Mac and MS: Windows are too completely different 'Operating Systems' also, Mac utilizes Safari and I'm sure apple implemented security features for schools and such, although, I'm sure that it's possible to do just would be a waste of time. Y'all should be doing work in school, not playing video games, a college degree is better than 20 million cooked lobsters ImO.

I prefer using my own VPN or just VNC my computer at home and use it instead.

I do that sometimes, but it's a bit unreliable if there are people at home.

Anyways, a really nice one I use sometimes is a Debian based portable distribution called DSL (damn small linux).
If you're allowed to run .exe's, it comes with a desktop emulation app that you can use, which basically gives you a guest OS. If you can't run .exe's, and your computers at school don't have BIOS passwords (unlikely) then you can boot from a flash drive, which is rather useful. I think there are BIOS password cracking utilities out there anyway.
At any rate, if/when you get in, you can use the bundled web browser to go pretty much wherever you want.

@ The poster far above, to run PHPRoxy, you need PHP 4.3.x (?) or higher. A self-hosted PHPRoxy is still my favourite option.

Although I think I know which one to download, do you think you could include pictures so that users know which one to download, as there are a few?

BTW, I shall try this out on Monday. Along with logmein.

I tried this here at home, it masks my IP, but not from Jagex. I even downloaded ANOTHER PHProxy Firefox add-on, still didn't do it. Firefox also crashed a few time, I think it was because the PHProxy add-on, and Tor conflicted, but I am not sure.

One thing I also noticed, Portable Firefox takes a while to load up...any idea why? Maybe it's just my computer?

it doesn't matter if it is masked from jagex...

first off... let me explain how the school's blocks work...
the school's block has a selected list of ip addresses and a list of blocked websites... it blocks all the computers with one of those ip addresses from seeing any of those websites...

here is how the proxy helps... it masks you computers ip address with another computers ip address... which allows you to swiftly pass through the block...

why it takes so slow to open... because you aren't using a high speed port which most computers don't have... so big deal...

So that's how they block us...

How do you know that's how they do it anyway? It's not actually our school that blocks it, it's the Education Department that does for us I think. But our school notifies them of websites that could stop us from learning. (YOU know the ones I'm talking about. :p)

Ok guys lemme set this straight from my knowledge about school blockers. For websense, it blocks the weblink then redirects you to an invalid page. So i dont see how running an exe page of runescape would help. From the main page to the world page is 3 different clicks. 3 clicks = 3 different links. The runescape.exe wont help. And programs that change your ip, will NOT work for runescape.

Anyone got an idea how to bypass firewall ?

There was a Tor program that did one time, it wasn't portable, it was one of the older full versions. It lagged like hell, but it did the job. :p

you guys don't quite understand how these filters work...

most of them, not all.... but most... have all internet traffic passing through them. meaning when you click a link, a "request" is sent to that URL.

we currently have web sense, web sense intercepts that message and sends a redirect and redirects you to the block page URL (FOR WEBSITES ONLY).

there are tons of other protocols available for web sense (i administer it).

i block websites by categories... as people who are blocked by web sense know. i also have the ability to block specific ports... vnc, remote desktop and about 40 other programs and categories of programs.

if a new program is released, within a week we have it in our database (if it has its own protocol).

if a proxy site is uncategorized in the list of websites, web sense will send that to its headquarters for processing and within about 2 days it has been processed and sent out to all its subscribers.

on top of that, web sense will record all website traffic to a database on its server, and keeps it for about 12 months. but will also record other protocol traffic such as remote desktop and other programs as well.

if configured will have the ability to email staff of violation of categories. ours is set up to notify of pornography, hacking, adult material, and proxies.

i have a few select student i urge to test the system but they cannot figure out a way to get through it as of yet.

FYI i am a networking major, and i currently know of one way to circumvent web sense. but for those of you who are attempting to get to games, this will not work. this will only work for web browsing.

if you have the ability to run programs from a removable drive, then you may have the ability to use this add on to browse internet. but is very, very tedious and r

all websites have an IP... ip's are sent across the network... not DNS names (www.google.com etc)...

so it wont really matter how you contact that site if you contact it directly. you will always be blocked.

IF, you can get to a proxy, that would be how to do it. would be an indirect way of going to a server. but embedded objects (flash, java, etc) do not always display correctly.

however, that is the main focus of web sense's workforce. which is why it is the leading filtering service in the world.

as for VPN above... this would work... but, this uses a specific range of ports, easily blocked on a per user basis with certain filters.

if you happen to change the ports used, most of these filters have "pattern detection" which will detect which type of protocol your using and based on the policy, allow/deny it.

we have gone to the extent of copying the html script at home, bringing it in and running it off of a flash drive and it will fail as it still needs to connect to an outside proxy server.

our school blocks residential IP addresses, meaning if you were to set up your own at your house, this would not work.

basically, the kids that do this and find ways to do this... become the designers of such programs like web sense. so the smarter you get, the harder it will be for kids.

Wow...what a son of a bitch program...people have not been able to do a lot of things just because of that one program? Sheesh it must be marvelous.
