Put me in the list, I support you.
alright well im in we have to chose an item that is non-makable so not laws or lobsters stuff that you have to buy elsewhere for a higher price like rune pick-axes
lookie what i found
this means we would get kicked to the back of the line eventually the legit players will get what they want
Thanks for your suggestion of using the rune pickax.
But the trading restrictions are for every couple hours. You could still buy 25k law runes (7.75 mil) or 100 rune pickaxes (~1.8mil) every couple hours. This is probably good for us because then the super rich people won't make all the money.
i only give my support if we do it to a non makeable item, for instance a monster drop only or treasure trails not a rune med helm.
non makeable items wont have enough demand to be able to buy a lot in a short mount of time and enough buyers to make that big of a difference.
by the way, i have just under 2 mil that i can spend. I could do more, but that'd mean that i'd have to spend at least some time on rs to sell my items. That, being too boring for me, is not possible :)
I support but wouldn't Fagex just make law drops more frequent or something?
It seems to me there are mainly two different conceptions of the plan that I hope to clear up.
A short-term monopoly vs. a long-term monopoly
Originally I planned the short-term monopoly which is this: to buy up an item important to the economy for maybe a week and then sell it back. This essentially allows us to choose a more significant item because even if it can be produced fairly quickly, we will still be able to continue buying them up because our funds will likely last a week.
If, however, we do the long-term monopoly, it would be imperative that we choose an item that cannot be recreated quickly, so that we can remain in control of that item. This long-term monopoly could probably be held for months.
palmpilot71, if we were to use law runes, we probably would do a short term monopoly. This means J/Fagex would have to drop like 100k law runes in less than a week to make any difference. First, they will be unlikely to react that quickly. Second, they wouldn't just create large amounts of runes because that would be harmful to the economy.Quote:

andrewrox424, if we were going for a long term monopoly, you would be absolutely correct that we should only use a non-creatable item. But what I'd like to emphasize is that with a short term monopoly, it would be perfectly fine to choose something like a law rune.Quote:

I have like 3mill just sittin in my bank. nuthin to do wit it
I support
sounds good, i support too **subscribes to thread for update notifications** i got about 2 mil in bank that i could spend, ill be sure to check back here for updates and ill let ya guys know if i think of anything that could help
how weird i had a very very similar idea but scrapped itcoz i thought it woud be sorta impossible yer i like it dude and there has been some realy interesdting suggegtions i suport it 100% :)
it'd be better if we took over all certin item (yew tree..etc) in a world...
or we make a annual scar day where admins make a script and every one from scar has to run it at xx place at xx time
i dont c wat u mean, im pretty sure the grand exchange interweaves between all the worlds, and i dont think yews would be the best choice of item, b/c of all the people that are cutting them 24/7 (even some people from this community) itd be WAY to hard for us to buy them all up when so many people are cutting and selling them so quickly. just some of my thoughts
I say go for cheap items. After all, with 2m, you can buy 1k items costing 2k, then if the price raises by 10gp, you've made 10k, but buy 50k items costing 200gp, raise the price by 1gp and you've made 50k, or (with feathers just as an example), buy 500k feathers at 4gp, then raises the price by 1gp and you've made 500k :)
Just something to think about.
well, heres some of my thoughts, i haven't had time to organize them so ill just post it all and c wat u guys think about it:
i just noticed the price of normal ess shot up to 40gp ea! so wat i did was i attempted to buy one at 42, 41, 40 and so on until i couldnt get one right away, i could buy at 42 and 41 and 40 buts thats it, so im figuring the price might go up a lil more in the near future so i took my current ess buying offer out (it was at 35 from a few weeks ago) and then i invested 2mil into ess, at 40 ea, however i couldnt buy any, not even one, so i raised it to 42 ea (the max) and still nothing, i guess that just means that nobodys selling and everyones buying...
EDIT>>>
hmm, i was just able to buy a small number of ess on a diff character for 41 ea very quickly??
I like the concept of this idea, but it's got some flaws, there's too many inpredictable factors that could really screw it up good... It's a nice theory though...
w/e am in
i think what some of us are over looking is how big of an impact the SRL community ALREADY has on runescape's economy, i mean think about it, all the people here that are running woodcutting, mining, ess mining, flax pickers, rune crafters and all similar scripts regularly, thats a lot of supplies that most likely go through the grand exchange at one point or another. we already have a large influence on the economy. just some thoughts to chew on
I've been thinking and lob's seemed like a good idea. They are in huge demand from BH'ers etc. and extra pressure on it would seriously screw up the prices as people buy it all very quickly at higher prices. Though I've also been thinking about Jagex, and won't they just not raise the GE prices for it if they noticed a minority buying it all/ nearly all of it?
It wouldn't stuff up the economy, though at first when the flow of primary goods became hindered, prices would rise on armour, weapons, ores etc. while other goods prices lowered due to no one buying them. Eventually the market would settle down, but it would really just result in a shift towards more expensive player made content (mainly runes, armour, weapons and ores & ess) and monster drops and food mainly having a lower price.
hmm....gives me an idea
[OffTopic] Grr that report me here [OffTopic]
If Jagex raised the price on the GE that could only help us. For one thing we would make lots of money if they decide to make a 100-200 percent increase (double or triple it). And if they only increase it a little, we would have no problem continuing to buy it up, so it wouldn't solve the problem in Jagex's eyes.
The bottom line is that if Jagex increases the price on the GE, they are helping us make money.
I probably put too many negatives in there: I meant what if they don't change the prices and just leave them as they are? We would buy up huge amounts and it just means that the average sell price would just shift towards the more expensive end :)
1.For each day we hold the monopoly, it will rise 5% on the GE.
2.We can sell some of them the old fashioned way-regular trades
Remember that the 5% is compounded so you're profits gets exponentially larger the longer we hold a monopoly. If we hold a monopoly for 2 months we will multiply our money by 18.6! In light of this it seems a long term monopoly may be the best.
Its a pretty simple plan i don't think people should keep on questioning it. More action less talk.
If it does go consistently up at 5% a day, then it will actually be just over 1900% (100 * (1.05 ^ 61)) :)
But how can we assume it will rise at that rate? Chances are that Jagex will stop the price rising if it gets even near to double, especially if it is a good that is in high demand. Also, nikos, we would start it but we need more support. To have an impact on popular goods, we will literally need hundreds of millions of GP. Lastly, just a tip for those looking to increase their cash for this, spend all your money on equal amounts of tin and copper ore, find a good bar smelter and smelt them all then sell them. You will nearly double your money as well as gain a serious amount of smelting exp :)
I've been thinking about doing something like this except, manipulate the price where it is lower than the low alch price then buy/sell to the general store.
Ok, lets do something. We need to decide what we are doing and do it.
I'm not quite sure how many people we need... it probably depends on which item we choose. We've got about 15 on the supporters list. If we can't find too many more we could change to a less popular item.
For an estimate, say each person has 3-4 mil each. That's 45-60 mill with our 15. Is that estimate too low? (or too high?)
We should be able to hold a monopoly of some lesser item for a couple weeks.
I have the feeling that as soon as we announce that we are buying some item, that others will join in because they know that they will be able to make money buying it.
So, what we need to do is decide:
1. whether or not we are going to wait for more people
2. which item to use
After that we can announce our decision and start monopolizing. Let's get this thing started.
Im in... although 3m gp will have to be next week sometime =P
I have 1k law... already done my bit =D
EDIT: Just wondering... when the prices suddenly shoot up, and people are still going to be making law runes, then how are we going to be able to buy them? Law runes at their peak will be, as you said, 1900% more... Are we going to just leave them for no-one to buy, because then the monopoly will go down. Eventually, to keep it up, we would have to spend near enough 6k per law rune... and when people sell them in the thousands...
Tell me if I have the wrong end of the stick or not =P
EDIT AGAIN: Forgot to mention that more people will be inclined to make (and then sell) law runes if they see the prices suddenly skyrocket...
EDIT AGAIN AGAIN: Feathers wouldnt be a bad item to take control over... After all, with forefeathers and tarajunky's script, we already have the monopoly over that item, we just haven't used it for anything.
i might be in.... depending on what item it is...
what if you all bought like a treasure trail item so that way it would be hard for the people to replenish stock of the item.
Yeh it's a good idea.
Put me down on your support list >.>b
Mr. timbers is right, it should be a treasure trail item. Law runes are too easy to make.
