That is so sad to hear Ice.. As I see it, they should put in more "anti-bot" or strenghten their security rather than pin point their faults or poor security to you and not blame it on specific person. You didn't hacked their client and so it doesnt violate anything.. We are very much pleased and impressed with your work and I hope this wont stop you from making more wizardry..
Sad to see you bend to their bullying, but I guess it is understandable. Even though doing this sort of thing is fully legal they have better lawyers than most of us, and getting dragged through court can be expensive even if you are innocent.

to protect the players who genuinely enjoy Puzzle Pirates and do not resort to
"hacks" and "bots".

contributions to the game and game community from talented individuals.
Given this, we invite those individuals currently involved in destructive and
malicious activities to consider other, more positive ways, to enjoy Puzzle
Pirates and it's community. We would welcome such contributions as an
alternative to the legal actions we will otherwise be obliged to take.

You can dig up some of the post from EQ or WoW and see what I'm talking about. Both of those companies now have a team of developers to counter the hacks and work-arounds that players found. In another example ... look at all the mods done to cell phones and the unlocking software that developers have made. You don't see them getting hauled into court or going to jail. The reason? Because while the companies don't like it ... there's no law against it. Just like there's no law against making a bot to do your play so your fingers can rest. Simple as that.

The MMOGlider case is irrelevant to this form of scripting. They basically charged him with copyright violated because it used to be called WoWGlider... and also they managed to convice the judge that it was somehow against the law to copy the information that wow had stored in memory. Oh, and he charged $20 a license for his bot.
Since the bilgebot does not directly access the puzzle pirates memoryspace, nor use the name puzzle pirates in a marketing attempt, nor make money from any of this - it is legally solid. Trust me - I am not a lawyer. :P

Although in addition I might mention you shouldn't trust anyone but yourself, lawyer or not. I have gotten a few of those letters from various game companies in my days, but nothing has never come of it for me... Since I never distribute my bots they can not even begin to build a case against me.
Oh, and since I like the challenge of botting rather than the result I occasionally send a copy of my bots to the developers. Wouldn't be much of a challenge if they didn't know what to look for...
That is exactly what I was saying. The bilge bot and gunning bots don't use any of software for Pirates, nor does it pull from the server. It simply replaces human fingers doing repeat manuvers. (Basically ...) And since it is open source and not for profit ... they can't touch you. The WORSE that can happen is you get banned for life from the game. And ... honestly ... all these companies want money so all you do is set up an additional account and use a different credit card.Quote:

I think what Three Rings is doing is complete crap and they could do nothing to you except ban you but if you are afraid that something will happen but you still want to program without any risk I have a plan for that.
You make the script you choose one of us who arent afraid to take the blame and we post it. So therefore they cant blame you anymore and you can continue publishing macros.
Ive looked into it you can't be sued or anything more than get banned for Creating the bots, and their are several ways of getting around bans.
please release the one you were working on even if you dont plan on working on it anymore

Hehe, you people crack me up. Of course he shouldn't release anything more. It is up to him if he wants to continue creating bots or not, and no amount of whining on your part is going to make his choice easier to make. The world is bigger then your needs for a bot, people... Iceevil has to put his own best interests first regardless of how much anyone has "looked into it" and found it to be safe.
Oh, and to those of you who gets banned for botting... Imagine seeing someone playing football for 19 hours straight and achieving great to awesome performance consistently through that playtime, without ever getting tired, having a break, and so on. Would you think that it was real or that maybe somehow someone was cheating?
Remember, every click you make on the screen, every duty report you get, every minute you play - they know. If your bot does not behave like YOU - taking breaks, performing as well or bad as you do, having the occasional fudge up in the brain pan.... Well, they have automated functions that flag your account for a checkup if you behave unnaturally. If you leave a bilgebot on over night - on times you never played before at a skill level you have never achieved before... Good luck with that.
The perfect bot is built to mimic your playstyle, and then if you want to get better stats to very gradually improve over a long time to the point where you look just like any other player who is slowly learning a particular game. Since bots are typically nowhere near that behaviour it is up to us users to use the bot only in a pattern and situations similar to what we would normally play.
Bots are used at the risk of getting banned. It's not possible to make a full proof bot because a computer can not act human-like. But it is a choice by the person that uses it whether they use it or not.
and also, if a company could sue someone for something like this then there would be no SCAR or RSBot, and Three Rings does not have a very strong anti-bot system.
This is merely an empty threat.
hmm i never knew bots were illegal the only illegal programmes i know is pasword cracker and some other ones but for gaming idk iceevil i dont think is tht big of a deal there probly scareing you to stop makeing these scripts :)
Of course it is a scare tactic - that doesn't mean they can not make it very uncomfortable for him if they try. The fact that he has done nothing illegal does not stop him from getting sued, nor does it stop them from contacting his ISP and trying to get him disconnected from the internet. It happens. They don't have to play fair, they just have to follow the law - and that means the guy with the most money wins.
Sure, the risk of them spending the money needed for a large action lawsuit on someone that has not made a penny on their bot is very small - I would go as far as to say you are more likely to get hit by a meteor while typing then you are to get sued for it. But for the same reason people wear seatbelts when riding cars it is a good idea to use safety precautions... Like, don't publish your work. Or if you really want to, then make sure there is NO way to track it to you.
Use anonymous email addresses, proxies and/or things like tor. For forum talk, I mean, not playing the games.
If you've done that then it doesn't really matter if they can sue you or not, because they can not find you.

The only thing I've done in Scar is really modifying Iceevils script for more human play. Other than that I have botted in autoit, which I have had an easier time grasping (probably because I have programmed in languages with similar syntax before). Me personally I bot for the challenge of it. I like the planning and thinking that goes behind it, the tweaking to make the bot "just good enough" so it won't get detected. Since 3O have complete control over everything in the game and have logs over every move of every single poe on the ocean you have to make every transaction look natural once you really get into it and start moving money around. You could argue that I'm not even playing the same game as the other players, since I enjoy the metagaming so much.
As for the pentomino solvers - they are a starting point. Some of them allows for random boards, with specific spots that the computer can not use to place pentominos. This means having the bot know a random board has been solved by someone. They recognize all the shapes and know how to place them next to each other. But the main problem that needs to be changed is that a pentomino solver usually brute forces the problem - tries every possible combination until it hits on one that works. A carpentry bot would require some intelligence built in to make predictive guesses based on hole shape and piece availability.
So, far from impossible but quite difficult - I can easily see the general idea of it which means it should be possible, but thinking of putting it in code just gives me a headache. Which is too bad - I hate carpenting and would love to never have to do it again.
I used your scripts, but the top left corner of the board just switch squares over and over...
your computer isnt strong enough or cant cope it with it im comp is 3gb ram speed thingy so is fine if yours is 3gb ram plus then try to delete them programme like big ones or check if your firewall is blocking it if i help rep will be nice :DQuote:

So, if you do it right then labour can give you approximately 30% more profit at less than 0.005% of the exposure per account. There are other ways to invest your profits and make even more money, but that is not really botting related.

Sounds like your computer is too slow. It does not update the Puzzle Pirate screen quick enough and the bot makes the next move before realizing that the board is changing from making the first combo.Quote:
