Quote:
Ahoy,
Three Rings is the maker of the online game Puzzle Pirates.
This letter is intended as a statement of Three Rings policy in regards to the
development and deployment of exploits intended for use with our game.
Puzzle Pirates is a social game. Building and maintaining the trust of our
community is our most important goal as a company.
Recently, we have become aware that several individuals have begun working on
projects that directly and negatively affect our community. The creation of
tools that distort and/or manipulate the performance of the game, or of
players in the game, erodes player trust and enjoyment of the game and is
something that we regard as a direct threat to its health and continued
viability.
As such, we are obliged to protect the game from the application of these
tools. We intend to do so in the following ways:
-Banning: We will remove individuals identified as using such tools from the
game
-Provider Coordination: We will coordinate with ISPs and other access
providers in our efforts to prevent the deployment of these tools.
-Cybercrime: Insofar as these tools are connecting to our game across the
internet with intent to deceive and/or exploit the normal functioning of the
game, an internet service, we will seek legal recourse in the home
jurisdiction of the individual developing the tool.
Each of these steps represents an increasing level of investment on our part.
We would, of course, prefer to avoid such actions. But we feel obliged to act
to protect the players who genuinely enjoy Puzzle Pirates and do not resort to
"hacks" and "bots".
As a company, we are very much committed to encouraging the development of
engineering talent around the world and absolutely welcome input and
contributions to the game and game community from talented individuals.
Given this, we invite those individuals currently involved in destructive and
malicious activities to consider other, more positive ways, to enjoy Puzzle
Pirates and it's community. We would welcome such contributions as an
alternative to the legal actions we will otherwise be obliged to take.
