Yes, but it's not used like that. It's simply ++, not ++1. The closest would be +=1, but we already have ++ for that.

Actually, ++var comes from C, originally. Java just copied a lot from C's Syntax.
++var means that the variable will first be increased, and then the value will be returned, unlike var++, which first returns the old value and then increases the var.

Nearly all open source projects are written in C. Go figure.
Java programs can be just as closed as C programs. (Runescape for example)
If you like open source so much, why do you still use Windows? :)

Open Office is actually not written in Java, it is written in C++. I am 100% sure it is written in C++, because I compiled it myself. (OpenOffice 2 might have been Java, but Open Office 3 is C++.)

C++ and C > Java > C#. Java is an average language. I wouldn't like to use it for a server program, though. Way too much overhead with all this Virtual Machine stuff.

If you want to turn this into a C++ vs Java debate, I'm all in for it. ;)

EDIT: Don't get me wrong. I like Java, it is an OK language, and `okay' for various tasks, but I dislike the VM it uses. If a language is interpreted, at least make it use the fact that it is interpreted, like Python.

I'm confused. If OpenOffice isn't a Java program, then why does it require a JRE?

Edit: Looking over the site, it appears that OpenOffice is one of those programs that's an amalgamation of different programming languages.

It took me 20 hours to compile open office, and it did not install java on my system. All I saw was lots, and again lots of .cpp files. :)
