i was making a script and i had it running decently, i had it saved and i had a backup! i want to save the file and didnt realize my script was running, it gave me an error saying it couldnt save, so i stopped it and saved to my backup, SAME ERROR, went to open the backup and it was empty!!!!!! tried to save again and it FROZE


400 lines of code, my morning and evening yesterday, GONE GONE GONE. i want to kick someone in the mouth right now

The more you script the more it will happen, sorry to say. That sucks though. You will look back someday and be like, geez I fussed over that crap code, haha.

it's only 400 lines, if you get further into scripting, you will code 400 lines in 30 minutes ^^

Happend to me when I was a junior aswell, was so pissed.

But amazingly i remade it, and guess what?
I did it 2 times better.

My point, Go for it.

Ouch, that sucks :(. Most I've ever lost is like 10 lines, usually because Scar stops responding every once in a while when I try to run a script. Ever since I lost those 10 lines I always remember to click Save before clicking Play :p

Protip: How to run SCAR scripts to test:
Ctrl + S
Ctrl + F9
F9 once Ctrl + F9 says it compiled.

I have never lost code via this method.

Huh. I've never had any problem saving a script while it was running.

well i dont know how to do any of this stuff but my dad told me once when i lost a speech that i was in the iddle of by crashing that is saved to the hard drive somewhere dont know if its true or not but maybe you could figure out how to accesst if i s there

Completely possible (most office programs do it), but thus far, Freddy has refused to do it. If I remember right, it was because of the 'wasted' disk space?

i rewrote most of it.... yay.... i do think it is better now than it was, because while i couldnt write it while i was at work, i thought about it and the procedures are more smooth

everytime you finish writing a func/proc go ahead press CTRL-S , it's a habit now for me. Though dont worry , it happens; Just get your hands back to coding :)

Thats what I do.

Just wrote 500 lines of code within 3 hours. About another 500-1000 before my fisher is done though.

I press it neurotically. When I see that little star next to the filename I just have to press it xD
So after every change I save it, 1 line or 100 lines.

I click that save button like every 10 ms, I can script very fast but that is what slows me down :p.

You have just quoted me IRL... said that like 2 days ago when a friend of mine lost an 8 page essay, because he exited the word window and accidentally pressed "no", when it asked him "Do you want to save before exiting?", and he hadn't saved it before... at first I rofled IRL, and then I gave him the advice, that whenever he notices the little star (forgot that Word doesn't have a start... SCAR addict ftw xD), or takes a little 5 second break to think of what he is going to type next, to press the freaking ctrl+s buttons... it's a reflex for me... almost as strong as breathing... :rolleyes:

happened to me loads of times
everytime i go to see if the script is working or will compile i always press CTRL+S before i press CTRL+F9
but most of the time i loose it is due to crashes while i am halfway through a function :/

It shouldn't happen. Editors should not crash...
I've never had that problem with vim.

Pure editors, no - never, but a mixed IDE like SCAR deserves a bit of leniency in this area. The unforgivable part is that it doesn't make any sort of pre-run backup.

Yeah lol , I forgot about the star. That will always remind me lol ;)

This is the reason why I always save like every 3 seconds xD My two fingers are always on ctrl + s while the other hand is typing. I got into this habbit after once I lost a 2500 word English final year essay :(
