I have never gotten nearly as good a signal on Ubuntu as I have on XP, and I have tried it with multiple computers. I can't even get my wireless adapter that I have now to work on Ubuntu from about 30 ft. away from the router. It connects for about 10 seconds max, and then disconnects for however long it feels like.
2. SCAR/SMART will run slower. Wine's a great program, but it's not as fast as native Windows. If you want to run the max amount of SCARs/SMARTs, use Windows.
3. If you plan on gaming at all (which I doubt, since you're on a laptop, but I'm still throwing this out there), use XP.
