How to install/setup Simba for RS3

So im pretty much brand new to this. I followed the install guide on this site - I updated simba - updated every thing else that the guide said to update - when I try and run this (from guide) -

program new;{$DEFINE SMART}{$i srl/srl.simba}begin ClearDebug(); SetupSRL();end.

I get a Error message (coppied from Simba) -

SRL Compiled in 0 msec
** Fatal Error: Pairing Clients; Terminating Script **
Successfully executed.


What am I doing wrong here?!?!

@Thehjullis and drewfillius, from what I've learned, SMART creates a file in your Simba directory when it is initialized. SRL is misleading in it's error result and the problem is that the file SMART uses isn't being created. This is likely due to permission issues.

Go to the folder your script is in and make sure all the permissions are set to Allow (Right click > Properties > Security).

Im not trying to run any saved scripts. Simply trying to follow the guide and when i copy/paste the sampe script to make sure verything is fine thats the error i get. same exact message as his

Then edit the permissions on your Simba folder.

EDIT: Got it up and running just had to re-read all tutorials and threads and use the search to find specifically what i was looking for and eventually with persistence got it to work. Thumbs up to the community for having pretty much every bug and fix on the forum.

You need to update your Simba. It should be at version 991+ when you go to Help > About.

Mind telling us exactly what you did to fix it? I'd like to add it to the SRL FAQ. Was it a folder permissions issue?

That function is in simba.simba. I'm not sure why you would get this error, but I suggest overriding your SRL folder so all the files are redownloaded.

Yeah no problem, i made sure i had all requires updates, java, service packs, and windows updates, then after all the updates were downloaded and installed, i uninstalled simba then proceded to install the program that gives you MSVCR100.dll which i stated here how to get.

After toying around with it for awhile, that was all i needed to do to get it up and running. I tried the permission settings but it didn't seem to affect it either way.
So i dont believe its a problem with the permission settings but this was just the case for me and i'm not entirely sure if it'll be the same for everyone. Also another thing i did just to be safe (I actually did this before installing anything and checking for updates for the things i had listed above) Search Device Manager and make sure all your drivers are up to date and there was no hardware changes in your computer. Then procede with the steps i had listed above. I am currently in class but when i get out ill actually make this cleaner so i apologize for the inconvient layout.

thanks, but it actually didnt help me at all.

however i did get it to work by deleting simba completely off my computer and following some dircetions i found on Sythe. so at least it works! =)

need some help, using Ashman's Arctic Pines script and I just had a blue screen, now this happened(the multiple codes are from when i retested to make sure it was a steady issue). i did not change anything to the script it just wont start. thanks for any help!

I've never seen that error before. Have you tried reinstalling Simba? It fixes a lot more problems than you would think. When I say reinstall, I mean delete your entire Simba folder and reinstall.

I get that sometimes, reloading simba helps for me.

I have manually downloaded the SMART8 binaries just in case.
All extensions have been force updated, SRL is at 1697 in particular.

Upon compilation of any script that includes SRL, I get this:

Exception in Script: Operator expected at line 453, column 93 in file "C:\Simba\Includes\SRL\SRL\core\gametab.simba"

If I manually fix what I think is the error, I run into many more ad infinitum. What's the fix?

I downloaded Simba and sat through both walkthroughs. I also followed your guide word for word. I've went through other parts of the forum to see if I couldn't find a solution to my problem. Simba runs fine, as well as smart. Yes, I am not at all experienced with scripting or all this, but it doesn't seem too hard to understand. My problem is S.M.A.R.T. isn't responding to my clicks until I press deactivate, in which I must still manually put my info in and select a world. Even when I re enable smart my character just stands motionless. If anyone wouldn't mind helping walk me through my mistakes, I'm a very quick learner and your time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It sounds like you haven't set your graphics properly. Make sure they're set to fixed screen and as low as possible.

Yes, twice now. I am installing to my root directory. Is there a 1.00 version around somewhere that I can try? (am on 992 now)

Yes, there is a "1.0" version of Simba, but it's not official yet. Go to Script > Interpreter and select PascalScript and try again.

Tried that, didn't work, deleted everything simba-related, reinstalled, still have the problem with lape, but pascalscript now works. Any ideas as to why I can't use the lape interpreter?

It's possible SRL won't compile with Lape as I'm sure all the updates that are made are for PascalScript. People often forget that they need to make sure it compiles in Lape as well.

I have windows 8 and im trying to run the test script to get smart and simba up and running and I keep getting this error

can anyone give me the step by step on what to do to fix this? It's really agitating.

I'm pretty sure that error happens when the SMART file can't be created or doesn't exist. Try setting the permissions to Allow on your Simba folder. If that doesn't work, I've heard of a fresh install fixing this issue as well.

yes I set the graphics accordingly. But when smart starts up it does nothing, just stays on the log in screen waiting for me to type. I tried using a different script but its still the same problem. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong....because I still don't really understand the whole scripting process that well xD Iif you wouldn't mind throwing this rook a few pointers, I'm sure you could point me in the right directions for the basics, correct?

The only time I'm ever heard of that problem is when users don't set their RS graphics to "Fixed Screen". I can't think of any reason why it would happen otherwise.

I got it up and running. Now that I've seen a few scripts actually run with my own eyes, you guys have me wanting to learn a lot more about this whole "scripting" process. I've seen a few things about anti-leeching so far, but I still had to have it explained to me. Believe me when I say, Anti is an intricate way to keep you're work to yourself unless the person is knowledgeable and/or educated with scripting. Awesome way to learn something more along the lines of programming. I hope by at least this coming Friday I'll be somewhat educated in how scripts are made.

My Simba wont run! I was lucky the first time, but I keep trying and been unsuccessful ever since. I'm getting this error:

i cant remember how to use this program but i was watching videos following and ddint work ill check my messages to see what was wrong i sent some one for help

i couldnt get simba to work saying some stuff wasnt working so i uninstalled it reinstalled it was fine untill it said use this script to see if it works for s.m.a.r.t it came up with this m just going to ask about it here.... erm i clicked run then msi to try open smart window thing another way it doesnt work just comes up with Running MSI...
