The main reason I said that is because finally the things I have been saying for years are finally being accepted (at least named) by the public. It saddens me it had to take such a long time. (And still is.)
I've brought lots of stuff, including the font issue up years ago, but then it was obviously (???) wrong, and it was all disregarded. Do I need to hire other people spell out my ideas, so they get accepted? (I've already done this once, with the CTS bug )

I don't really see how I'm being an ass. Unless you call me an ass for agreeing with you that the fonts should be in SRL?

I honestly regret to say this Freddy, especially in public, but SCAR is not at all what it used to be. I restarted cheating only recently but already SCAR 3.23 is giving a really really bad time.

I can see you have worked hard on this. SCAR has a new look and feel, and many functions have and functionality has been added compared to the old 2.03 version.

BUT: it is not stable at all. It is literally swarmed with bugs, inconsistencies, random errors and half or non working functions. I cant seem to keep it running for more than 3 minutes before a DIB handle error pops up, or a CTB or a General instruction 0x00000 or another weird popup somewhere in SRL. Not to mention the loss-of-focus almost every time you pause or stop a script. I cannot even get colorfinding and bitmaps/mask to properly work 100% of the time. In short: it is a mess!

To put it mildly, what the **** has happened in the past year? Here is ol man Fakawi trying to get back into business only to discover SCAR is practically dead. It looks like our former ship of enterprise is sinking with young Freddy at the wheel.

If I where you, I would get some help in the SCAR-project because I get the feeling you cannot control this on your own at this time.

Do not get me wrong, this all may sound harsh to you, but it is in our mutual interest to keep our products strong. SRL is strong because everybody works on it; SCAR is weak because only you work on it.

Get help coding!

:[ Guys being a bit harsh IMO, freddy has other things to do besides develop SCAR, and he cant find and fix every error, nor does he have the time to fix an error instantly each time one pops up. I do agree SCAR is getting buggy though, and something should be done, but lets not be too rude :p.

Regardless of everyone's comments here... As I told Fakawi, I'm working on the problem, I figure it'll take quite a while to actually track down the bugs and fix them, so I'm writing SCAR 3.50. Now, as I've announced, my exams are coming up soon, so I can't work on it right now, however, when they are over SCAR will receive my full attention and hopefully within weeks I'll have a public pre-release version ready. In the meanwhile I'll still keep working on eliminating as many bugs as possible. Things just went south because I've been trying to satisfy too many people at once, adding features and stuff without actually looking at the big picture. I'm currently working on an idea to get SCAR 3.23 as stable as SCAR once was... Another issue is that I have to develop SCAR 3.2x in a VM because it requires Delphi 7 and preferably windows XP and I'm running Windows 7 with Delphi 2010. Also, finally, Fakawi stated I shouldn't work on this alone, well, he has a point there, the thing is though, when he was around, I wasn't alone, half of the developers team was assigned to pre-release testing of SCAR and they did an excellent job at that, but as time progressed they lost interest and I had to open the pre-release testing to the public. I'm not saying I'm not getting feedback anymore, quite the contrary, however, it's not what it used to be, back when I first started developing SCAR.

Anyway, everyone defending me, thanks, I really appreciate it, but unfortunately, they're right, I've made a mess out of things, good intentions only carry you so far... But, I'm gonna fix it. I just need a bit of time to do so.

However, this is the first time I feel this problem is being addressed and brought to my attention, fully, in a proper way, that also seriously changes my perspective.

Of course not, however, currently with college I've got a lot on my mind, so I can't code that much, it'll take a bit of time, but I should be able to get SCAR back into shape. I've put my focus too much on speed and not enough on performance. I'm currently developing a class that will replace the graphics library I'm currently using. Not only will this be more suited for the purpose, but it'll be as fast or even faster. It will also eliminate these DIB errors and make sure that when a function screws up, the user is notified and should provide sufficient information for me to know why, where and how it screwed up. To increase the speed of certain functions, I've had to create very tedious and complex algorithms, which are incredibly easy to leave a bug in. The new class will allow me to revert to using plain simple maths, however, it'll come at the price of speed, I'll be speeding up the functions when it's stable like before, but this time I'm going to give SCAR a separated mode to use the experimental functions, so people can switch to them if they wish to help test them, that way SCAR can stay stable and the new functions will get tested well enough so I know they're ready for their final implementation.

The thing I'm wresting with now is whether i should revert to SCAR 3.15b and rebuilt it, properly this time to what SCAR 3.22 is now, or whether i should keep trying to eliminate the bugs... Either way, it's gonna take some time and effort...

Hmm... You see, I don't know how other people think about this... But I'm not too keen on getting my stuff in SCAR anymore. I used to, kind of...

... But the fact that it will just be hidden for the public annoys me. If I have an algorithm, I want to share it with the world, so no one will have to reinvent the wheel; thus allowing them to focus their efforts on other problems... If I suggest it to you/SCAR there is fair chance it will be kept secret, and there is no easy way to find out how it works to others. There is also no room for improvement in this case, as there is no way for us to actually see how it works, and we can't suggest any patches / changes. So I don't feel like adding stuff if it goes directly to /dev/null anyway.

EDIT: I see you still believe you can manage it all yourself, so I'll just nevermind...

You aren't being forced into it, per-sae. You are just being told that it's probably "the best thing to do", as it will help out with the production, as well as probably making it more stable. The moar eyes to proof-read, the less chance of errors :-)

You have to understand that Freddy inherited SCAR from Kaitnieks who always kept the SCAR source closed and secretive from the public. Opening the source after Freddy was trusted with it would be a slap in the face to Kaitnieks. I don't think that opening the source to all would be beneficial at all. Opening it to a limited number of trusted people who would then assist freddy as a collaborative team sounds like a lot better idea to me.

If SCAR's source were so readable, I wouldn't be creating bugs... Yea, I still have contact with kait, but I don't want to share the source with a select few... The best bet in resolving this will be SCAR 3.50, so far it's looking very promising, the framework is nearly complete, once my exams have passed I will port as many functions from SCAR as I can so they can be used until I have written new ones to replace them. I'll be releasing a pre-release version which should be fairly functional, without all of the tools, like dtm editor, bitmap to string, etc... Though those are important, the importance of the scripts running is a lot bigger. So I've so far focused on developing the script platform and the main user interface. I've also already spent a great deal of time on testing the functions I've currently already implemented in the script engine to assure that there's as little as possible bugs left when I release the first testing version. The ETA for this is about 1.5-2 months.

I love the Selected Window Details window. I'm assuming the function list is hidden?
Will there be a code hint system sort of like NetBeans and some other IDEs where incorrect code is underlined, etc?

/offtopic - I recently used it to protocode a computer-vision application to test finished boards at my work. HVAC replacements and the like.

Any specific functions you need? You should make a thread, and list what you need written. People will contribute; even if you don't use their functions, even if you only get 1 good piece out of the whole thread, everyone will have a nice warm happy feeling, plus it'd hype 3.5 a bit more ;)

No Luna isn't multiplatform, though it is perfectly compatible with XP, Vista and Z. The functionlist is non-existant atm, well, it's hidden, but it doesn't do anything yet :p Incorrect code won't be underlined though, well the thing is to do so, either I'd have to process the entire script myself or constantly run it trough the script engine, processing it myself would require tons of code, basically it'd require me to write my own compiler which I'm really not going to do :p Using the script engine isn't an option either because it'd create a lot of lag and it's just not suited for the job... Errors/hints will be displayed a lot better though, in a list like in Delphi. So basically, you'll click the error in the list and you'll go to the line of code where it occurs. Hence the tabs at the bottom, there'll also be a tab for the report box and such.

EDIT: Btw, not sure what kind of codehints Netbeans has, since I use eclipse, but the codehint system will probably be greatly improved.

Hmm, yeah, I could do that, some or most code I'll have to rewrite to optimize it further and such, but it'd certainly help the process... Stuff I need the most atm rly are TPA functions, well, I don't just rip em from SRL hence SCAR doesn't have close to as many right now, I rewrite them based on the description they're given. If people could write me working models in SCAR or a really comprehensive explanation of what they do and how they work, I can implement more of them in SCAR...

Is there any way to change the visualness of the tabs in the tools menu or something? That is not my favorite look for tabs...

Hmm, at the moment there isn't even an options menu, lol, I'm going to add loads of options later on, but tbh, there isn't that much to change the tabs to... There are styles, but not sure you'll like them, I personally prefer this one... I am however considering to replacing the control with another tab control which can even use the native OS style if requested, but I haven't done that so far because this control has some unique proeprties that are already in use and it could prove to be annoying to replicate them with the other control, well, it's another risk to create bugs...

I mean its not something pressing, and i'd rather have them and get 3.5 faster and stabler, but if eventually you feel the want to change it to something different (such as native OS ones) then that would be completely fine with me.

That or SCAR stop being single-developer. Starting a new program from scratch would be preferable to continuing to wait for Freddy to fix bug after bug. And honestly, if releasing the source to SCAR would be a slap in the face for Kaitnieks, some people deserved to be slapped.

Scar 3.50 is a full rewrite, right? You should open-source 3.23 since otherwise all of Kait's code will go to the œther and never be seen again :eek:

No one is stopping you/anyone at all from doing that, anyone who wishes to do so can make one if they wish.

At least be thankful Kaitnieks even gave the source to someone, and they are still working as hard as they can to keel SCAR alive, just be happy its still being developed.

Kaitnieks made SCAR he has all the right to choose what is done with the code.

And Pok Yu for saying Kaitneiks should be slapped, I cant even start to describe how big of a role Kaitnieks has had on the Runescape cheating community, how dare you! :p

Kaitnieks/Freddy can do whatever they wish with the SCAR source, and you/anyone is free to make their own. But please do not bite the hand that feeds you and hate on people working hard to provide a working bot for you.

In the end some of kait's work will still be ported to 3.50, seeing it takes a while to recreate every function, but don't forget that over half of SCAR 3.23 is my own code, so I'm not going to open-source it.

I've uploaded a new copy of SCAR 3.23 with the OCR tweaked a bit to work better with the new characters, though it's not quite perfect... But better than 3.22 with the new chars anyway...
