Macro, Bot and Borg Extermination Services
No Bot too big, No Macro too small!
Hello and welcome to the Macro, Bot and Borg (MBB) Extermination Services, a thread devoted entirely to help combat macro use within RuneScape.
If you’d like to get involved the details we need to investigate an account are:
The username;
Its location;
Whether you believe the suspect(s) to be a Bot or a normal player.
Here is an example of what your posts may look like:
Bot suspects at Sawmill:
ccyycc122
ccyycc123
name12434
andsoonandonandon86530
Given this information we can use our detection systems to check if the user is macroing or not. If there’s some crossover between Bots and normal players in your post, just put them in separate paragraphs, under different headers. As a side note, we recommend indicating spaces by using an underscore, so for example ‘big dave’ becomes ‘big_dave’.
It goes without saying that all names posted on this thread are posted in confidence and we ask that you don’t discuss them elsewhere. If you find a particularly sensitive suspect such as a friend, feel free to send us a P-Mod query if you’d like to notify us.
As a general starting point for spotting macroers I’ve included some useful tips below. These characteristics on their own are not clear indicators of macro usage but when observed together they build a good picture of a potential macro suspect.
Characteristics of macro use
Repetitive movement patterns over extended periods
Playing away from others
Not responding to chat
Not reacting to random events
Alchers who stay idle for long periods after running out of materials
Players trying to bank at a closed booth
Same word answers from players, e.g. "Q. How are you? A. YES!"
For all the spotting information you’ll ever need check out the Finding Bots & Borgs thread. You'll find lots of helpful titbits including speech and translations, known hotspots and macro characteristics. All of the information was provided by our P-Mod macro hunter elite, so you can be assured it’s full of great pointers.
If you need real time help you can post in the thread mentioned above and I'm sure one of our amazing regulars would be happy to lend a hand:
Plum Nutty 1
Deezydoodle
DMPG
These lovely people are the best of the best so be nice to them and listen to what they have to say, they know what they’re talking about.
Please feel free to ask us any questions relating to macroing. We are always looking to help where we can and information sharing is a large part of what we're looking to achieve. You guys can give us inspiration and direction into areas we haven't thought about before and vice versa.
Unfortunately we will not be able to answer any queries based around the detection systems we employ. Any questions relating to the specifics of how we find macroers will not be answered on this thread. This information is key to our removal of the macro threat and as such we don't want to risk it falling into the wrong hands. I hope that this makes sense to you guys, we will always give you as much information as we can.
FAQ
Q. If another player doesn't reply to me are they macroing?
A. Not necessarily. While it's a common trait for macroers to turn chat off while they work, this is also something many players do. When looking for a macroer you should look for multiple pieces of evidence before submitting a name.
Q. Why is this thread necessary? I thought there was a macro detection system already in place.
A. We are always looking for new ways to combat the threat of macroing and involving the P-Mod community seemed like the next logical step. You guys have a great deal of information available to you and have a proven track record for reliability in helping remove bots. Using your previous experience we know you can help make macroing a much harder activity for the cheaters.
Q. I see quite a lot of players who I suspect are using an auto-typing macro to advertise in-game. Should I report them here to be checked?
A. No, they can be reported in-game for macroing as normal. The account will then be checked.
That pretty much wraps it all up, if you guys have any questions please don’t hesitate to post them up and we’ll get them answered asap. I look forward to trawling through waves of potential macro suspects, for the greater good!

Well they aren't there any more but..
Suspected Macro Type: Fletching bot/macro
Location: Grand Exchange
World(s): 36
Behavior: Often seem to break and repeat the number 14 over and over for hours until they log out, sometimes 114 or 1114. Used to auto-level their fletching (14 bows, 14 strings withdrawal, then make 14 bows).
Other Details: Seem to break a lot, often standing there doing nothing as they spam the number 14. However, they do repeat 14 even whilst working. I don't think they have the timing right.. lol.

Well, here's a suggestion for dealing with them:
How bout Jagex bans them, like they used to?
I hear people constantly complaining about bots at many hunter areas. I see autotypers everywhere. Is there something wrong with the macro detection system that it isn't picking these up? or has Jagex decided that autoing is no longer against the rules?
Ban the bots, and we will stop having problems with them. That includes the autotypers.

I agree with the above statement, I have observed the same 4 usual bots at Soul Wars over the past few weeks, people keep complaining about them, I have told other annoyed players to also send in a report but despite all our work the same bunch of bots just keep on macroing Soul Wars on a daily basis.
I dont understand what else I need to do to have them removed ?

Hmm several weeks. Maybe the system needs an overhaul?
There are a lot more players now than there were before, so I imagine that's a lot for the system to handle.

The first time I heard players were macroing Soul Wars games to collect zeal points I was very suprisd that it was even possible but after many months at Soul Wars I have witnessed and come to recognised Bot type behaviour.
Just today people in SW alerted me to a bot and asked me to report however I always make sure for myself first by observing the player for a few rounds, the signs are usually obvious when a player who doesnt respond always has a set movement and goes to the same spot and same team every round and kills pyres jumping from one to the next without collecting the souls. But to be certain today I went on the opposite team and decided to trap the suspected Bot by using a barracade to lure him into a corner and box him in, my plan worked and the bot got stuck there without attempting to get out as any other player would by destroying the barracade, and based on all the evidence I then reported the player for macroing.
However my concern is that all the evidence I observed of bot behaviour and the test I carried out may not be transmitted in the report, so I am worried that my report may be seen as wrong when in fact I have no doubt it was correct. So my question is am I safe to report soul wars botters incase the same signs Ive seen aren't detected in the report ?

Macro reports don't work at all like any other report in Runescape (which collect chat only). The kind of evidence your observed and reported doesn't even show in the reports. In fact, our Macro reports don't even go to the Community Management Curators - they go directly to ICU just as do the reports of regular players.
The behavior you observed, regular paths, etc. are typical of Bots and Borgs. You don't even have to go to the lengths of observation and evidence collection you did, if it displays typical Bot/Borg behavior, simply report for Macroing. As I understand it, that alerts the JMods in ICU to investigate the account of other tell tell signs.
Finding Bots & Borgs Quick find code: 58-59-641-58456821 is an excellent thread that will explain it so much better then I did. You've no doubt heard of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Be sure to come acquainted with our own Plum Nutty 1 the Borg Basher.

Identifying green dragon borgs/Forgs:
To be updated soon, gathering info.
Clothing:
Black Dhide (they told us it makes them hit harder)
Banods Tassets
Full Dragon
Skill cape and hood (who wears skill cape hoods?)
Games necklace
Anything a regular player would wear
Names:
As of right now any name you see, ie: regular players
Travel to and from green dragons:
*Dueling ring to cw bank/games neckalce to clan wars/run east to wildy dragons.
*Glory to edge bank/run to north east entrance to chaos tunnels.
*Glory to edge/run north west to green dragons wildy.
*Game necklace to bounty hunter/games neckalce to clan war/run east to wildy green dragons.
Locations you may find green dragon borgs:
Wildy: East of Clan Wars
Chaos Tunnels: the eastern entrances both upper and lower.
Speaking:
Most borgs/bots will not respond right away. You have to pester them into talking. It is our job after all to annoy them!
Doing a dance or any emotes will also get their attention faster. They will even start to dance with you sometimes.
Some can actually type pretty decent English.
Spotting & identifying Al Kharid tanning bots.
This is a very similar technique to identifying sawmill bots.
These bots also stop in the same places, sometimes for several seconds. They also tend to run for a short time before walking again.
An ideal spot to watch it's movements is outside the Kebab shop. This is where the bot will stop on it's way from the bank and also on it's way back to the bank.
These bots also won't answer questions asked of them.
They also seem to take several seconds to actually trade the tanner when standing next to him
Identifying Ess Mining bots: P2P and F2P
If you suspect a bot running Ess, spam the door.
Spamming the door is frustrating for real players but will stop a bot and make it move erratically.
They will walk to the north wall and pile up there on the inside and outside. Some also pile up East and West.
You can also spot them in the bank. They walk in and hook to the wall before finally banking.
Added note: Ess bots never stop to mine a star when it's between Varrock East bank and the ess teleport.
*Old* Watch as they walk up to the bank window and stop then step back a space like they forgot something and then back to the bank window to finally bank.
Yanille Ess
These players are stopping near the gate going into the guild.
If you go in and out of the door (spam yourself) you can stop them. They will bounce around the stairs and walk up to Wizard Distentor, then bounce again.
Don't count high levels out and if you get yelled at just simply explain you are hunting for bots.
More info page 11 post 3
Identifying Sawmill bots:
Walking:
If you suspect a bot working the Sawmill, follow them and note the places they stop.
9 times out of 10 they will miss the bank.
They always stop in the same places. Usually upon stopping they will run for a short burst then walk.
A good spot to stand and watch is 10 steps south on the path (from the bottom of the steps) of the Saradomin statue (where Anna Jones sits on the bench). They stop here on the way to the Sawmill and on the way back to the bank. They also walk between the wall and the watch tower and stop at the daisys around the rocks piled up there.
They don't usually speak. You can follow them and talk and sing to them all day without a word from them.
Identifying Flax Field bots:
Check the flax fields and take note of the people picking. Now return to the bank and watch for the names you saw at the field.
Watch as they walk up to the bank window and stop then step back a space like they forgot something and then back to the bank window to finally bank.
Cats on the flax still works as well.
Walking / Running:
If you suspect a bot working the Flaxfields, follow them and note the places they stop.
They always stop in the same places.
A good spot to stand and watch is at the South West corner of the Courthouse in Camelot between the trees and daisy patches.
They also stop at the daisys just off the North West corner of the Courthouse.
They don't usually speak. You can follow them and talk and sing to them all day without a word from them.
Identifying Fishing Bots
I'm still working on this section to get better tips.
Right now the way I spot them is in the bank at the fishing guild. They seem to come in and stop 1 or 2 steps away from the bank and pause there a bit (somtimes missing the bank).
I know this isn't much but this spot has been empty way to long.
I will continue to work on fishing bots and try to come up with some accurate and easy spotting tips.
Identifying Runecrafting Borgs
These baddies live in edge using the abyss. They are real players behind the accounts.
Not real easy to identify by their gear. Normally their name will give them away. (sort of a chinese name)
The ones I saw have been female characters.
They might talk to you if you bug them enough in chinese.
Name examples:
sunxf48
fgad126
shejing321
grease199507
Their combat levels are 75 to 100. Stats are bad for how much rune crafting they do. Most don't even have their magic ranked. Overall rank 500k to 1m plus which is very high for most top rcers.
It don't take them long to get 99 runecrafting doing 200k xp a day.
All the ones I have found recently have been ranked in top 300 rcing.
So if you want to sift through the top names in runecrafting you might find a few.
Routes Of Travel:
*Edgville to abyss repeat
*POH in Birmhaven to nature alter to Camelot bank repeat(this route is a old route not sure if they use it anymore)
Identifying Woodcutting Bots: P2P and F2P
Note: Section out of date as the scripts have changed again.
Location: Draynor Willows, Seers Yews, Edgeville Yews, Varrock Yews, Seers Magic
While standing amounst the trees say "bot" or "macro" or "auto" in public chat.
Bots have been responding with one of the following; lol, lmao, rofl or noob.
You can do this over and over but must wait at least 30 seconds between saying it for them to answer.
Will try this out at more places soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Location: Barbarian Outpost Willows
Close the door on people on the way in to bank at the deposit box. They will try to open the door just keep closing it.
Bots all go to east side of the building trying to bank thru the wall.
Real players will complain, most are understanding once you explain what your doing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Location: Behind Varrock Castle at the yew trees
If you suspect a bot cutting yews, watch and see if it or they pile up south of the table (grass area) while waiting for the yews to respawn.
Also stand near the body rune respwan as they also stop near there on the way to the bank at the GE and on the way back to the yews.
They also stop just outside the door to the GE and will stop on the edge (big grey thing) of the plantform once in the GE.
Note: It seems the bot program has been tweeked and they are no longer piling up south of the table.
They will sometimes get stuck as well on the west wall.
When coming back from the bank keep an eye on them. They will walk in and stop with a pause before finding a rock to mine.
On occasion a group of bots will walk the same path when mining. Example: 5 bots mining the same rock many rocks in a row.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rimmington Mine
Still a work in progress.
They stop a couple steps south west of the north gate upon entering.
From there they walk to the wheelbarrow and stop before heading to rocks to mine. Have noticed they mine 1 or 2 rocks South before moving to the West side rocks.
They bank at Fally East bank and stop several times on the way to and on the way back from the bank.
Identifying Firemaking Bots
If you suspect a bot is firemaking, light a fire one step ahead of them.
A bot will pause a second and move one square north. Rinse and repeat and you can trap them.
Don't forget to pick up the logs they tried to light before they took the step north. Free xp for you.
Soul Wars Bots
didnt see any section on soul wars...it's rife with bots around the jellies and pyrefiends.
This seems like a perfect team event for bot busting.
The simplest method seems to be for each team member to grab a barricade and bandages ( to heal each other, that activity bar gets fiesty! ) .
I havent quite figured out pyrefiends yet as far as methods to find them, but jellies are easy enough. It seems with enough players, the same method could be used in pyrefiends as the jellies.
Hit a jelly, run behind one of the small walls toward the boundry walls, allowing the jelly ( and bots ) to follow you. Drop your barricade, sealing them in. They wont attack the barricade, but will continue to try to follow the jellies outside the barricade. Question away .
Note: there was a small issue with reporting through a barricade, as it wanted you to be in direct line of sight w/ the reportee/bot. the issue has been adressed, so it should work fine now, or in the near future. ( no need to clutter up the desks upstairs ) I was writing down names, destroying the barricade, then reporting as usual.
Hunting Bots (chins) We are still gathering tips here...
Greet them and try to make small talk. When greeting them throw in a "nice cape" or "awesome sword" as this is more likely to get a response them just a "hi ya". If they answer it saves you time.
If you get no answer at all get into a postition to set your trap when they pick theirs up.
Bots will either become confused or set up around your traps.
Stand on one of their traps, when they pick it up lay yours down on their spot and continue this for all the traps they have set. If they don't set up in the open spots you can lead them to the trap you want by standing on yours and picking it up and resetting it quickly.
Tele other if done at the right time seems to stall them for a bit and if done when they are setting a trap usually nets you a free box trap. If you tele other them and they move instantly, try doing it once more.
As with any bot don't let combat level fool you. These can be lvl 3 to lvl 138.
Any regular player will yell at you.
Fishing
Barbarian Village
I have been fishing at Barbarian Village for a few days on a number of F2P worlds, and I've began to notice a certain behaviour from some of the fishers there.
Appearance: No unique look. They look like regular, everyday players who use this macro to fish and bank for them. In turn, their combat levels vary. (I've seen as low as lvl 3 and up to lvl 100+.)
Fishing: Preferred fishing spot is the one next to the bridge. If there's none when they arrive, they will head to the one further up the river.
Path from Edgeville bank:
- Booth #2, second one from the south. (Start)
- West, behind the shed. Pause. (1)
- South, next to Soul Wars portal. Pause. (2)
- South, next to the brick fence entrance. Pause. (3)
- South, next to a plant/bush. Pause. (4)
- South, behind tree #1 . Pause. (5)
- South, next to tree #3. Pause. (End)
* Also of note how the path always takes them behind the treeline.
Path to Edgeville bank:
- Fishing spot. (Start)
- North, behind tree #1. Pause. (1)
- North, next to a plant/bush. Pause. (2)
- North, next to the brick fence entrance. Pause. (3)
- North, next to Soul Wars portal. Pause. (4)
- North, behind the shed. Pause. (5)
- East, on the red carpet inside bank, usually between booth #2 and #3. (End)
