Quality Headphones.

I'm no audiophile, but I'm really into music, and listen to a lot of experimental crazy shit, along with a bunch of hipster garbage and whatnot hullabaloo.

A couple of my friends recently bought some
AKG 701s http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K-701-WHIT...6713275&sr=8-2

and

AKG 702s http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K702-REFER...=pd_cp_e_1_img

They look great, they sound great, but there is no way I will spend $200+ for headphones (yet? :p).

So I'd like some suggestions on some good headphones, the kind the cover your ears and block sound well, for around $70 or less.

I had some $50 Skullcandy Heshs for a week then my friend broke them and threw them away, but for that week they were fantastic. :3 I really wanna get new ones.. ;-;

My friend has had the same heshs for months and they're still fantastic. They're not studio headphones, but for just $50 they're definitely worth it.

Sennheiser is the real deal! :p

As said above, they are NOT studio headphones but ARE superb quality and style for their price.

Turtle Beaches are good. Most people think they're just for Xbox nerds who sit there 24/7, but they defo deliver with music.

I've been happy with my $50 Sony MDR-V500's. They sound good (for their price range) and they're relatively durable.

If I remember correctly, these headphones are rated to handle 1W. I don't know for sure if that's RMS or peak, but it's probably peak. If I had to estimate, I'd say they can handle 250mW RMS. In other words, they can get pretty loud - even if you're driving them with an ipod or integrated sound.

EDIT: -1 Skullcandy. I've listened to a couple of their models and thought they all sucked. Very boomy - especially the pair with the shitty integrated amplifier. I'm biased against built in amplifiers, though, so take my word with a grain of salt.

If you can find what you want, you can save a few bucks if you buy used from someone at head-fi.

yeah, honestly, if you want to have a mic too, get the turtle beaches X11's, i have them myself and could wear them forever w/o them hurting, they feel really great over my ears and everything

I use myself AKG K240 Mk 2. AKG is the way to go so :) your on the right pad.

Ignore this thread, goto http://www.head-fi.org/forum/ and ask them a question. Tell them what music you listen to and your price range and they will be able to answer you A LOT better than any of the repliers have so far.

Seriously, don't buy Skullcandy trash and don't buy gamer headsets.

yeah, the posters so far have meant good. But they don't really have the experience if two or three of them recommend skull candy.

Heck, I certainly don't have the experience. I've used some nice headphones but not enough where I can say which ones are good buys for the stuff you listen to. I've seen a guy on those forums drop $5,000 on a headphone AMP lol.

Rep for Sennheiser. I have some ear buds I got from newegg on super sale, and theyre wonderful.

Sony MDR-CD180s = good quality as well. They're on the cheaper end ($20 but deliver wayyy more than what the price says they should)
Skullcandys are junk don't buy them. Terrible sound quality, just made to blow eardrums not quality sound.

I own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros myself, absolutely love them but they're a bit above your budget :P
Some good brands include Sennheiser, ultrasone and AKG. If you want headphones that block sound well you should definitely get some closed back headphones (apparently they deliver a better bass as well than open back, if that's your thing).
When I wanted to buy my first pair of good headphones I made a list of the ones that were suggested to me and tried em all out at an audio store, if that's an option for you i'd definitely do that :) Don't listen to the store clerks though, they don't know sh*t. :cool:

I owned Dr. Dre ear-buds and Diddy Beats ear-buds...Both overpriced and overrated. Sound quality was alright but definitely not worth the price.

I've owned a bunch of these - they're a bit fragile, but the sound quality is great for the price.
