Omg, shocking. :S Mother nature feels no mercy.
Hopefully few people dies, I believe the buildings in Japan are quite efficiently designed to survive earthquakes.
The tsunami it demolished pretty much all of Kurihara, which had over 77k people in 2008, which doesn't sound promising :( Hope most people are okay though.
The fire at the oil refinery is crazy too! Huge blaze high into the sky lighting up the entire area around it, it's out of control right now. I can't wait until more news unravels about this, I feel so sorry for all of those people.
They are also saying how aftershocks and things might cause problems in a bunch of other countries!
fuck. :(
Tsunami warning waiting for it.
Yeah we're under a tsunami warning atm as well, but the city I live in is well protected as opposed to the rest of the country. Apparently there was a 7.9 earthquake on Mar. 5th. All the weird things are happening this year, it just keeps getting worse and worse.
The tsunami is doing much more damage then the what the earthquake did.
This is horrifying :(

Crazy, even some South American countries are on alert for tsunamis. I really hope this stays contained and no more people get hurt. I've been reading over this for awhile, has some good info on the disaster.

wow thats insane! I heard its the 7th strongest earthquake in history
Yea this definitely sucks. An 8.9 earthquake and aftershocks that were upto 7.8. A 7.8 earthquake alone is big.
The west coastline of the US is shut down atm (pretty much).
Anyone notice Google has announcements on their main page? Very cool of them.
Best wishes to those in the affected regions :(
This is terrible! Good luck Flight & Kingarabian!
Another 6.9 just hit didn't it?
Yeah most likely an aftershock.

I don't think so :p
Karma for all these dolphins.
I heard on the news last night that it shifted the earth's axle rotation by 8ft.
Thats bad.
Don't know what channel you're watching but it only rotated it 16-26 cm. To put that in perspective, 1 degree of rotation is about 110km. It's possible that our days may be 1.8 millionths of a second shorter now!;)

Every earthquake shifts the earth's axle rotation... Hell, even walking on earth shifts the earth's rotation
Yeah it moved 8 feet. Quake has been upgraded to a 9.0 magnitude. Hawaii's damage is nearly 3.5million dollars, while japan has an estimate of nearly 100 billion known damage. Tens of thousands of people are estimated to be dead. And to top it off they also have massive problems with their nuclear reactors.
And why would they allow Japan to have nuclear reactors, when its SO prone to earthquakes/hurricanes/Tsunamis?
They're meant to withstand up to a 5.0 earthquake is what I was told, same goes for most of their structures.
The whole situation with the nuclear power plants is really scary, but interesting.
I've been doing some reading, and saw something about Chernobyl.
Apparently the leader of the adjacent plant heard the explosion, then pulled out his Geiger counters to see if there had been a meltdown. The instruments he had were only able to measure up to 0.001 units of radiation per hour, while the actual radiation levels were from 5,000 - 20,000 depending on exactly where they were. The meters said OFF SCALE, but they didn't think much of it because even 0.001 units would not be dangerous or suggest there had been a meltdown.
Then later when they got a Geiger counter with a higher range, the readings were so high that they assumed it was malfunctioning and again ignored it.
It made me wonder if Jagex goes through the same thing with botting. They develop all these methods to detect bots, then the readings are so high they think their methods must be defective, lol.
And you know what is also very sad about this event? Some Americans are like "Don't care about it because of Pearl Habour" it just shows how arrogant some Americans are
And people like tamtampamela (had a video on youtube that pretty much instantly got hundreds of thousands of views and hate mail from everyone ever and was about how the earthquake in Japan was a good thing because God was answering Christian prayers by opening the eyes of atheists that the Christian God is a loving god, etc. etc.) make me sad too. :<
You mean like http://www.youtube.com/user/TheAmazingAtheist ?
Oh jeez look how far offtopic we have gotten
Those people can go to hell.
I don't really have a religion, but if I had to choose the closest to my style I'd say I lean more twords Hindu purely for the fact they believe in a 'balance in nature' (karma), respect for all living things. Not much into 'Gods' per say, but I like their ideas of living in general.
I was also shocked after i watch the video in youtube. It really scare me a lot. I cant imagine if that happens here in our country.. :(
Im a born again christian, and i much more believe in my religion than others. :)
