I was thinking the biostar one because faster sata ports
they're pretty much the same.. except for the sata ports & the msi has firewire & stuff which I don't really think would be used

both are about half price of a six core.. so I'd be getting two quad cores for the same price as a six (which I doubt I'll need more)

8gb total (easily expandable to 16GB of ram via 4x2GB's more since it has 8 slots)
I'd go for the faster one. $20 total is worth the extra speed.

Depends on your form factor. Rack servers are thin and have to have longer power supplies as you can see in the first picture. Towers and some bigger rack units have normalish power supplies as you most likely have in your own computer. What case have you picked?

Uptime will usually be better in offline locations. Nobody has redundant battery backup at home. Few have multiple separate internet connections. However, if you're okay with 98% uptime, it makes more sense to run a server in your own home. (Plus you can use a local server to stream AV around your house ;))

TBH I'd be tempted to go intel for its hyperthreading. I'm not sure what the price differences would be. Probably big enough that it wouldn't make sense to go that direction.
