Don't let the name fool you, OpenGL is closed source. Its called "open"gl because they are open to suggestions on how to write their code. Thats why you'll find OpenGL on every smartphone and in Runescape.

I was going through a book on OpenGL programming and it discussed this fact. I should have posted the exact text. I figured it was relevant because lots of other projects incorporate "open" into their name because they are open-source, but OpenGL had me fooled at first.
OpenGL is a specification. It's open. The NVIDIA and ATI implementations are closed source. However, there are multiple open source implementations of OpenGL. (Linux has open source intel, ati and nvidia drivers, with amd and intel backing their FOSS drivers) And OpenGL is also not limited to one platform.
If there actually was an OpenGL source, I'd completely agree with you.
