You need to look at both sides of an issue, that is why I posted that link. Let's be open-mined about this. Not to mention, there are other individual studies that likely prove certain negative effects of marijuana. This thread seems extremely biased to it's pro's. While some cons, such as those mentioned in the .gov link may be false you can't just ignore the all possibilities. The purpose is/was to further the discussion and view the countless perspectives on the issue. I can believe the pro's of marijuana outweigh the con's, however it does not eliminate the con's.
There's no reason something must be unanimous in one way or another (all pros/all cons/whatever) to be good/bad/anything. Especially with weed, where the cons are cons because of the prohibition itself, mostly.
I own a business and have ~25 employees. We drug test every job applicant. In many cases they come in and fill out an application, then when they are notified that there is a mandatory drug test, they don't even bother to take it they just walk out and don't come back.
Also, don't you think it's strange that President Obama, who admits that he used pot quite often, and even cocaine when he could afford it, is not out there fighting for legalization?
If it's as "harmless" as everyone suggest, wouldn't he be out there saying that? Instead when he is questioned about it, he says legalization is not a solution to any of our problems.
Well people who don't even have the respect to stop smoking/doing any drugs before applying for a job isn't someone I'd want working for me anyway. But, if they seem like they would be a good employee, they pass the drug test, and then they're hired and do a fantastic job day in and day out, but smoke weed from time to time, would you really care? Why does what they do in their spare time relate to you or your work? I'm sure a few people who work for you drink alcohol, and that shouldn't matter if that's what they do in their own time, right?
Like noidea said (in quite a biased way, which doesn't help "the cause"), votes are far more important than him trying to legalize weed. He knows that it won't kill you if you smoke weed, and he has shown that he isn't super against it (i.e., the federal government *usually* won't come into the equation if weed is involved, and the state government is left to handle it unless it's a national matter or the like). And he's a smart guy - he is the president and all - so obviously he knows it's a losing battle at this time. And to be honest, it's not the most important thing right now. He's gotta pick his battles just like everyone else. Him letting states do their own thing is by far the best option at this time.Quote:

I can understand people not wanting people to smoke and drive or smoke and work or smoke in general because they think it's wrong. But keeping weed illegal is not the way to deal with that problem. Is legalizing the best way to keep what people do private and keep drugs away from kids? Maybe not, I don't know. But I know it being illegal doesn't work.
Your experiences are not a generalization of all who smoke weed. Plus chances are you are still fairly young and haven't gotten into harder drugs like people such as some of my friends have. Don't get me wrong, not all people use it to "rebel." But imo, it's those that do that get into harder drugs. I just question that if the weed bridge was gone more people may be turning to attempt the harder stuff first. I myself have only smoked dope, despite having many many opportunities to partake in MDMA, shrooms, cocaine, salvia, and some prescription drugs. The only drugs I would consider extremely detrimental in that group would be cocaine and prescription drugs such as oxy, etc.
I agree with this. The only addictive property of marijuana would be the habitual aspect. It becomes a habit just like me eating yogurt after dinner or something. This is sometimes mislabelled as addictive by those who oppose marijuana, but in reality it is no more addictive than the chocolate bar you ate after lunch.
Weed stuffed brownies work just fine people.
Which is fine if you have an hour or longer to wait for the effects, which are different from the effects from smoking, which are different from the effects of vaping, which are all different based on what weed you use, which is why government regulation is important.
I mean, of course this could change overtime, but honestly and truly, i dont WANT to do anything "harder" and "more effective". i dont enjoy getting "fucked up" from smoking, at all, infact i just like being relaxed. that is all, i do not intend to do any other drug in my life (except maybe alcohol for my 21st birthday, and i do not intend to get drunk that night.)
I dont want to have major side effects of a drug and everything bad that comes along with it. i enjoy having that feeling that after it starts to ware off, that i dont have to worry about throwing up drunk, or just waiting till i get some more, but instead, i am just a little tired afterwards.
I recommended doing shrooms at least once in your life. If you look at the structure of the active substance, you will see it's completely harmless. It's also impossible to get addicted, cause even if you get mentally addicted, you can only do it once every 10-15 days cause your body still has to dump the remedy it has made against the previous time.
And you can get mentally addicted to weed, smoked three a day. Than it's not easy to stop(it wasn't for me). Stopping with masturbation is something entirely different. This all depends on so many substances in your body, like testosterone and such.
i agree with this, drugs like LSD, Acid, Dmt, Shrooms, ect arnt bad for you if you do them on occasion, such as every few months.
Also you can get mentally addicted to anything, now getting physically addicted is completely different than getting mentally addicted.
getting mentally addicted means that you have made a pattern for yourself to keep on doing it, and you body gets used to that pattern and just kind of fits your patterns into your daily life.
some people have to have coffee every morning or they feel extremely tired, out of energy, cant concentrate ect, but if they go a few days w/o it they will notice there body will adjust to it as if he doesnt need the coffee anymore to be at his/her best.
If alcohol is legal than so should pot. Other drugs that are considered more "hardcore" should not be. Pretty simple.
@TaraJunky: Politics is politics. DERP.
Pot has changed me in multiple ways.. Not only good ones.. Sure, i got alot of inspiration, imagination, I enjoy things much more than before : food (I used to be anorexic), music (more open to new genres) among other things.
However, my memory has decayed a terribly large amount. For example, I go to a cinema, come out : "What did I just watch ?". No kidding, I have to read the ticket to find out, and remembering scenes ? Hah.
I've stopped smoking pot since these events have happened. I must say that sometimes I feel like smoking a little j' just to get hazy and enjoy the sh*tty tv show I'm watching with my girlfriend or just to relax to music, or even have insane dreams.
But damn, my memory... I regret smoking pot, I admit that.
I say it should be legal, to some degree as in : sales for only a few grams /month|week so that the state would controll the sales and what is sold : no cutting the hash with (I'm serious) camel shit or shoe wax.
Also this would bring in money to the state and bring up more jobs. Look at California, pot has a great role in their economy now and to be honest, things are going quite damn well over there.
tl;dr : I smoked pot, enjoy it, lost my memory, stopped.
Also, be careful with what you smoke. Many here cut the greens with glass shards, making them look like THC Crystals. In fact these shards have destroyed my friend's lungs, piercing huge holes in them. Basically, its not very grave but he cannot for example run like before, do sports, any physical exercise is much harder and sometimes painful than before.
He stopped smoking too.
Its fun until things turn the other way than it should.
In my personal opinion weed is a gateway drug (from personal experience). I look at it this way, I barely had the guts to try weed, if I was offered coke or other stuff instead of weed in the exact same scenario I would have declined FOR SURE. After getting bored with pot after a couple months I have "experimented" with other drugs (Salvia, mush). So in this guy's opinion, definitely a gateway drug. Also in this guy's opinion, weed is not good. I do think it is addictive (physiologically) because I did have a very hard time quitting. (off for a week, on for a month, back and forth until I just did a complete stop of all drugs including alcohol). Weed is a de-motivator, judging by its affects on me and my friends. Weed doesn't add anything to the average (note) smokers life, so if it isn't positive, why do it.
Also, it's quite expensive to be a smoker, around here its $5 a joint (not buying bulk) and I hear that's quite cheap. Smokers can easily go through a couple joints a day (even I was doing 2 joints, evening smoking only). And think about this, your money (aka your spent time) is going to support a CURRENTLY illegal activity. That money fuels grow ops which are HEALTH RISKS. (not just to growers either). All the growups around my hometown (one of the highest ratio of growop towns) the houses have to be gutted. This is a huge sucker punch to the property owners (because they all rent for obvious reasons). Sure if pot was legal then this wouldn't happen (except it probably would because they can produce so much pot at so little [upfront] cost [not counting society's cost]) but do you really feel good about giving your money to these people? The same people who also [very probably] deal other drugs? Ok we can agree pot isn't that bad, but a large portion of that money goes to gangs [don't say there are any positives with that].
Btw I have done shrooms while drunk and it ain't that bad. (maybe not for a 1st time).
Anyways, if you read my rant props :)
Moderation is key.
Odd, here in the Netherlands shrooms are strong enough to forget how to walk, swallow and so much more. But what if the shrooms effect is the feeling of immortality? A common effect I experienced to, this can easily add up with alcohols 'forgetting the limits' effect...
Yeah I didn't do that much while drunk. I would say that moderation is not key when it comes to drugs.
