When people will search "Rs Bot", "Runescape bot", "Rs Cheat" it will most of the time result Pow-Bot or RsBuddy.

Why?
Because they have put effort in advertising, and when people will flow in their rankings will raise!

So what can we do?
Answer is extremely simple. Advertise advertise and once again advertise.

Once again in here I wan't to say few words about Advertising.

Bring up the question what kind of site we are? Ok you got it great.
Then think what we do and for what (Little tip called RS) Great you got that one too.

Answer is:
In-Game-Advertising.
Simple but yet effective.
People will think that what is that, because I swear it's not Pow-Bot. It's something different and people will check it out.
Some people will just think "Screw this" and mabey some people think that this is interesting. "So there is somekind of other bot than Pow-Bot?"

I completely agree with you. :) Villavu isn't as noob friendly when it comes to getting the botting client[simba] than other communities. With more advertising we make this community flourish..with leechers :p. But at least we will increase the user base, making this forum more popular and Simba widely used. <33 inc(rep);

Also, making scripts was a lot more enjoyable back when there were lots of people to use/post prog's/etc. Somebody should write a script that spams villavu link on runescape, who knows maybe that might help :)

What I mean by that is. Adsense would not help us at this point.

Umm but when we advertise the users will come n just go away... We don't have anywhere near the scripts they have.. No model clicking, interface clicking, custom GUI's.. :S We need a script Database.. u know.. a place where all scripts are categorized and u can just click one and download..

Our must show them that there is other options than Java bot.
And forums can be re modded that they are easy to access.

Interface clicking should already be available in reflection 2.
Model clicking, depending on Iamadam's status on his plugin, should become available as well.

About updating forums.
New people would go to this thread at the moment.

Can I just point out that we do have interfaces working pre-Ref2. I used it in my Berry Picker which has been in the members scripts area for quite a while.

I'd like to throw myself out there to make ANY script this community thinks we need to attract a userbase (given an account).

We need to get the script manager working too.

MSI is kind of like that. I wonder, if we could make MSI a easy to download .exe it would be amazing.

i've been in marketing (and DECA) for three(this is my fourth) years. I can always help with advertising and marketing ;)

as far as new users accessibiliy, what we really need is a script manager + downloader. There is obviously one in the making, but wizzy never got around to finishing it up :)

unless SRL actually needs this, say for server upkeep, i kinda oppose. Im used to our small community and i kinda like it that way. lets you appreciate everything more. theres hardly any leechers compared to all other sites...yeah im selfish :redface:

since we have srl stats, you get feedback no matter what.

leechers > script doesnt get used

One caveat to all this - it seems that SRL has mostly managed to stay under Jagex's radar. Perhaps that's why it has outlasted other botting communities? Posting spambot in the major worlds would end that streak pretty quick. Something to think about.

I'm also heavily against leechers, which is the crowd you would be attracting. IMO you shouldn't be allowed to script/bot unless you can read and describe what the script is doing, or are in the process of learning how to understand it. You don't need to be a master script writer (I'm very far from), but a decent understanding or a willingness to learn should be expected.

We all started off as leachers. I sure did. The only reason I joined SRL was because I wanted 1337 h4x, but I ended up staying, and I'm sure some future leachers will stay as well.

I remember i suggested once in-game advertising , but the staff said not to.

I assume that if we were to do that on a [mass] scale then, a possbiility would be that Jagex may retaliate. However, I don't see the real harm to the community with in-game adverts as so many powerleveling/gold sale sites use the same, and I don't think Jagex takes [legal] action against them.

Many leechers, like myself(once upon a time) transform into scripters/contributors to the community. Leechers are like children, they're a pain in the beginning and usually abuse things, but gradually the grow up (:p) and become better people. So..

More leechers --> More scripts being used --> greater motivation for scripters to write scripts --> more activity :D
More leechers --> More possible contributors --> Larger active user base etc.

Any ways, you get the idea that leechers can possibly be a good thing too :)

Please no. Do we need to do this? I oppose. I agree we could be made much more userfriendly, but this requires a lot of work, and it seems that despite all the technical work of everybody behind Simba and SRL, we kinda overlooked this.

So, in answer Home: Youtube? Hmmm. Every minute there is 48 hours of video uploaded to youtube. Seems rather pointless to me, but it is for sure nice to see your scripts at work, so go for it!

Google? Well, cross referencing works, thats for sure. nough said.

Friendly Neighbours? Well, turn the situation around. How would you like it if someone came here and started advertising ad praising some bot? Dont think the community will like this. I say: keep it low profile. If you really need to do this, then be creative. Give away your script and tell them how to run it. Just to name an idea.

Adversite ingame? No please. I dont want to get in trouble. Beside, I find these spambots the most annoying bots of whole runescape. We dont want to be associated with them.

Forum accessibility? Cool. Love to. But who has the vision to do this? The forums are something we manage together.....and so we do. And that explains why progress is so slow. If you'd ask me, the answer is to a makeover is simple: it requires the effort of one man, maybe two. And the trust and respect of the highest admins. That leaves out many people.

Maybe, maybe if we get crazy, we might have some tricks. Thinking indeed about upgrading. This would instantly mean a new structure.

To cut short. I love your ideas, but reverse engineer first! Now give me proper ideas!

I do agree that the forum could use some restructure. Website is kindof old newspaper...

TIME and trusted resources are required for a lot of it.

There's not a lot that I am fantastic at, but I an decent with a few languages. If there's something I can do to help let me know.

i think theres some confusion if not on your behalf then on mine. I think we all have different ideas on what this thread is trying to address.

apart from that by srl what exactly do you mean? the community as a whole? the website? srl the actual library? or did you want more traffic so we get recognized and not submerged by java bots?

as far as i was concerned this community was not entirely based for the sole purpose of botting on rs. besides the obvious aspect of the botting, it was formed of a group of hardworking programmers and engineers dare i say to expand their knowledge. most of the people who write the script we use today claim they dont even play rs anymore...

so are we here for others or are we here for ourselves? do we really need the extra attention? or to be seen as a threat by jagex? im not entirely sure what the end goal is of srl because like i said: as far as i assumed it was to better ourselves.

perhaps this post is a bit confusing or maybe im just not entirely sure what im trying to say, but if anyone can decipher this and or concur my thoughts here let me know..

edit:so i read homes thread on are we dead which kinda adresses the community and all i gota say is it sounds like you miss the people that come and go. but theres nothing we can do about that. people will always come and go... thats just life. as far as that goes, look at all the people that are still here! its been years and were standing strong

The thing is, to better yourself/ learn programming, you make a script. then people use your script, and that makes you want to make more scripts, so more people use them. At the end of the day, because there are people using your scripts, you learn how to script better, improving yourself.

Now a days, there is almost noone making scripts, because there's noone using them.

Back in the day(not even, lol) in about 2007-8, every day there where about 100 new posts, and so many different scripts in every catagory. now theres like 10-20 posts a day, and only a few working scripts in each catagory, if that

Well I think that'll change here soon, because I for one have a few unique scripts already started and I know atleast 2 others are working on scripts as well. With Reflection 2 just around the corner, I'm sure many more people will regain enthusiasm twords scripting.

well there are a few reasons for that ...im thinking its probably because as time passess people get older and have more responsibilities. they may aquire different interests, and theres also members section for scripts. not to mention people are working together for things like rf2 and msi. although im more than 100% sure this will change DRASTICALLY before 2012. why? well ill actually go make a thread about it right now...in the general section of the forum...

Leechers want something piss easy to run. Something they can click download, and run. Simba is almost this but not yet.

If we had another program that could download simba, smart, srl, all the plugins, and have access to a repository of scripts - it would be the perfect client for leechers. Leechers also dont want to be looking at a debug box for information. They want paint, they want tabbed clients so they can bot with multiple characters at the same time without having multiple windows open at the same time.

Another thing they want is to be able to run many bots at the same time. I see many people over at rsbuddy building machines so they can run 20 at the same time. Even if there is such a program as described above (like Cazax's smart grabber) that would run the interpreter in the back round and have smart visible, it would still use a lot of cpu.

Is it possible to refine things so that it is less of a strain on the system?

well ironically i used to be an srl member and have access to the section but for some reason a long time ago my rank posts were reset...no1 informed me of anything and i never reported it lol. but thats somewhat comforting and disturbing to know^

We know SRL isn't dead. However it is heading in that direction, and that is not the direction this community should be heading into, imo. Basically, there are still a good number of people who enjoy scripting and will likely continue. However, the problem is that the scripts we[people writing these scripts] are not getting used enough :(.

I.E. My barbarian fisher is the only fisher of its kind on the forum, and I have gotten ONE progress report from a user. I may not be a great scripter like others, however a couple year(s) back I would still get more usage. Yet that's not the worst part, the worst part is the fact the script's been downloaded only like 3 times. I rather have leechers just abuse my script like crazy and not post progress reports rather than a few number of users using the script whilst posting progress report(s).

When very few people use a script, it is extremely disappointing. ='(

i dont see how that matters...we use them dont we? its not like were doing it to please others...well partially im sure you are - we are... but theres more than that. you wana see what your capable of. you wana achieve something great. i think whats going on is this is becoming too easy with reflection and a lot of people are getting bored. in which case the answer is clear. challenge yourself..make a script that does something really hard. lets make a script for every quest or somehting...

i make scripts for self use yes, but i still would rather have other people use it, just for the feeling of accomplishment that other people enjoy my work.

I'm in the same boat as Smarter Child. My miner is one of the only working mining(even then, one of the most versatile) scripts atm, yes i got some good proggies(it's even on the second page for srl stats), but it's still not being used as much as it would be years ago. I know i'm not an excellent scripter(maybe closer to "average"), but yeah :p
