An SRL "Introduction Page"

Poll added July 31st, 2011, and will end August 14th, 2011.

Hey graphics gurus!

A lot of people have requested that SRL have a sort of "introduction page" that is short and sweet. One that get's to the point and quickly explains what we are, like RSBuddy's. There are no guarantees that this it will be used, but I will be pushing it as much as I can. What we need right now are ideas/mockups of what it should look like. Once we know what we want it to look like, we can find someone to write the code for it. Keep in mind that it shouldn't be too crowded/bloated. It has to be easy and simple for the user.

Page can include (so far):

• SRL's new favicon (banner possibly) when it's decided upon here. Maybe a cool graphic specifically for this page.
• Links to download/setup, scripts, and forums.
• A watermark perhaps? I think this is pretty cool. :)
• Quickly explain our best features - open-source, community, free, reflection, color, etc.

Feel free to post what you think should be included, a layout/mockup, anything, really. :)

A watermark sounds cool, but Imo the one you linked too is a bit messy (there's so many words)

That's the point. It's just a mess of words that describes SRL. Probably forgot some, but another one can always be made.

Perhaps a scaled version of the SRL favicon as a watermark would be better?

Here is my concept page. I used Frement's design, because I actually like his better than mine. It's scaled down to not be a pain on the forums.

Here is a link to the [URL="http://oi54.tinypic.com/e04q5z.jpg"]full size[/URL]. Colors and everything are of course changeable. Sorry the logo came out a little rough, I got it from the thread and photoshoped the white out the best I could.

I also thought the top orange bar could be for our current menu links. I just didn't feel like adding all of it.

Everything is done with gradients and patterns, so creating an html version shouldn't be too hard. You could even just export the html and images from photoshop, but that's kind of messy.

If anything It would be really nice to change(or easy?) the color scheme to the other blue symbols if they get chosen

Might want to make one or the other to the Same color so that they match... But I think the might go good together :)

To be honest, I don't really like it. It's too glossy and gradient for my taste. I like it more professional if you know what I mean.

@Zyt3x give him a direction/things to try out :) He might make something even better.

Right, but we're not trying to impress older professional adults with this, we're trying to draw the attention of kids who (want to) cheat on RS. I see where your coming from though.

Well, it really isn't that glossy IMHO, gradient yes, but the only major one is the header and bg. What else would you like to see there?

E: ah nvm I see it now. Instead of the SRL you have now use the on Runaway made. Also you can put the Icon in other places too.

What do you mean other places? I agree on the blue.

Yes I like the blue more...

The blue seems like a "chill" less energetic page
The orange seems like a bright, yet vintage page for some reason...

I guess the blue would do better for like professionalism and it gives the page a better sense of order imo.
But I could see how the orange could also work cause it stands out and people would probably remember the community better for those colors...

Still though I would prefer the blue... (I really gotta work on the adjectives)

I personally like the blue one, it could be better, just a little pimp up here and there... but i don't know how to design or anything, its just fantasy on ma head.

Also, fonts will more than likely change if ported to CSS/XHTML. This is using the 960 CSS layout.

My idea was to pick the best ideas from these, so, the placement of elements, colors, and content. The final layout might include something from everyone.

the mission statement clutters it and makes it look... sloppy... too cluttered. the mission statement isnt needed anyway.

EDIT: the logo also blends in with the background far too much. its hard to distinguish it at first glance

EDIT2: too many buttons. make them: Forums, Getting Started, Download (merge wiki,register,and rules into getting started - like link this to a tut that will explain all those things)

How about something Minimilastic? Something Linish and clean?

I really like the mission statement. I think it gives off a good first impression of a strong, stable community.

that was my main issue with the mission statement. it just cluttered everything. if it could be incorporated in a cleaner fashion, i think it would look very nice :)

I like geo's because it looks cool, but IMO we should look at scar-divi.com for inspiration if you want someone that looks clean and professional

Ok, I read all the feedback and I made the font size smaller and moved the mission statement to the bottom. I'm not sure if the text-shadow is a good option or not(Doesn't render in IE). Any ideas on what I could add to make it more original?

I'll change the Simba GUI, to three links instead of five, when I have time.

@Silent SPY: I really like the blue one a lot, but the title may change depending on the favicon poll. I actually realllly like it. :p It's kind of... perfect. If I had to criticize, I'd say use less gradient. Also, it seems to me that the title doesn't blend very well with the background.

@Geo: I feel like that's too much like the RSBuddy one. When I linked to RSBuddy, I was talking more about concept then the actual design. Sorry if there was confusion.

Yes, I really like that homepage. SRL probably wouldn't need that much information, but it's definitely clean and professional looking.

If you're talking about the logo in the header I know. It wasn't a very good blend. Otherwise I don't know what title you are referring to? :confused:

Less gradient will be done soon. I'll also do an export to html to see how it actually looks across the board. I'll be back to do this after this weekend.

Yes, I was talking about the logo in the header. :)

I thought so. I didn't spend that much time on it because I figured if this was actually getting published whoever was coding it would have access to the actual psd, so eliminating the white wasn't a big priority for me. Here is the mock up I touched up a bit using Dervish's logo.

I also did a basic export to html from photoshop, I don't have time to code a proper page right now, other projects have me tied down. Anyway, here is what it could look like live. Didn't take the time to do things like center, etc. only linked the three big buttons.

It's beautiful. :)

E: The stuff at the top (User CP, Calendar, etc.) won't be possible unless we created our own forum theme I don't think. This is just mean to be a home page, not a part of the forums.

Oh and can someone answer this: Why are we the only legal bot?

Well alright. I just had them in there for the sake of being complete. They aren't even linked lol. I believe we are the only legal bot because we don't modify the client? Or at least that's my guess, or does SMART do this?

SMART doesn't, and I don't know about other bots, I was just curious.

Simple and to the point...

LOVE yours, Frement. I think the undetectability description should say that we can use either color or reflection or both. From the current one, it sounds like we rely on both, when scripts can be 100% reflection or 100% color.

We'll probably have to go to a vote again. :rolleyes:
