Prior to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Bible was considered to be infallible by followers.

Now that the Dead Sea Scrolls have been found, and it's been shown that parts of the Bible can be lost or misplaced, you still consider the Bible to be infallible.

To put it more simply: Bible is 100% true, ordained word of God -> Dead Sea Scrolls are discovered, turns out the Bible didn't tell the whole story -> Bible is still 100% true, ordained word of God.

They do validate the Bible, in the sense that it's not mis-translated or reworded, beyond being limited by definitions while translating. (Which is why most Jews learn to read in Hebrew.)

I understand what you're saying now, and it probably makes sense to a lot of other people too. But people that believe in God of the Bible believe that the Bible 100% perfect and the way that God wants it to be. You'll reassure people that don't believe in the Bible, but you'll never convince someone that does believe in it.

As far as the Dead Sea Scrolls showing that parts of the Bible can be lost or misplaced, there's already documented events during the medieval times (from early Roman Catholic rule to King James) where there were councils and agreements in removing (what they thought) were unnecessary books of the Bible. Again if you believe Bible is true and God is divine, then you will believe that every version of the Bible is divinely inspired therefore true.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are meant to prove the Bible's accuracy.

(I'm not a Christian or Religious in any way, but no one else seems to be able to be able to hold up the argument for the other side, and God knows the die-hard atheists won't bring it up.)

This is funny bro. Also, very, very misleading.

God simply exists to solve problems which 'currently' humans cannot answer, i.e. largely things we either cannot comprehend (i.e. how the world was made) or we have no control over (i.e. life/death). He therefore solves a psychological need which stops us becoming overly stressed, worried etc about things which we cannot deal with anyway.

I take pretty much the same line of thought as Zyt3x^

For all intents and purposes Santa, the Tooth Fairy and so on exist when we are younger for a similar reason. We cannot explain how the presents got there, or our tooth disappeared and where it has gone, until of course we have found out a reason. Even when we stop believing in the a both examples we CAN still believe in a God as it makes logical sense to as now our brains have developed and bigger problems exist which we must deal with.

And how does that make it a bad thing? That means science is forever progressing and correcting any errors it might find in its ideas. Science isn't afraid to admit when it's wrong, unlike some holy book that is constantly edited (and whos followers only cite certain sections that make them happy).

In what world do you live in that says God is real, 100% factually? The Bible isn't a source in your answer. God is a theory, not a fact. Science start off as theories and develop into facts after testing and research. You can't test or research God.

That's how theories work, they evolve as they form. When testing and research and brainstorming produce evidence that the theory doesn't work the way we thought, it is adjusted to include the new information.

Also, the bible is only being edited to make it more accurate. Our knowledge of Latin was obviously not as good in the past as it is now, and the current translations (which only have slight word differentiations) are the most accurate up to date. They took over 20 years to translate and were translated by hundreds of translators.

I'm not sure how you define a ``scientist'', but I believe your definition is wrong. Even if we are you true ``scientists'' as you state - why would we not be allowed to bring in ``scientific evidence''? It's not like we made it up.

It seems that this turned into a debate whether you should believe in god or science. I think it needs to be cleared up that science is not focused on disproving god. It's purpose is to find out "why" and "how," I'm sure if there was any evidence of a god, someone would pick up on it, and then science would try to prove there is a god. Right now these two groups are being viewed as enemies. Right now, with our knowledge, we accept that we can neither prove nor disprove god, but keep in mind that science is impartial, it will take the choice that lends the most evidence. If there was evidence of a god, science would be on religion's side trying to prove he exists, don't view it as an enemy. The enemy here is not religion or science, this thread turned from a discussion into a bash-fest. Whats worse, believing in the wrong thing, or letting your belief make you do wrong? You are not a priest. You are not God. And therefore you have no right to use "religious evidence" against science.

See, your logic doesn't make much sense. If you're trying to say that because some people lie, that makes evidence in itself a fallacy by definition, then you have no right to be involved in any discussion apart from something that you could debate with a child of less than a dozen years of age. Your father may have gone through school to be a scientist, but if he actually did (and I quite doubt your father has four different doctorates alone, let alone him raising you to have faith in something as nonsensical as religion), I would not - and neither would many other scientists (since I have no right to say any of this, according to you) call his practice scientific.

Tarajunky, an admin on these forums, has gone through school for biology (not sure to what level, but he is a "doctor" as far as I know), yet he has faith in a god for non-evidence based reasons, and denies pieces of evidence science has to offer. For those reasons, I would not much call him a very scientifically important figure, and many other scientists would agree with me. Richard Dawkins, for example, has said he wouldn't call Francis Collins (the "head" of the HGP) a very bright man, as he believes most of the bible literally.

I would put your father and tarajunky in that group with Collins.

If you read your bible you'd have realized that Man was created on the Sixth day.. On the 7th, he rested and later on Adam and Eve were created.

As for chronological order, why else would there be days in which the earth was created in a specific order.. I indeed do believe it is in chronological order.. there are different sections/books in the bible.. Each book may possibly be in order but I'm not saying that Leviticus came before any other because I do not know that.

Yes I do believe that "God" exists.

By God I mean, that I believe that someone is watching my back.
And on hard times I have someone to talk to who will listen.
