On-The-Go Notifications

Hey all.

I have been working on a little notification system that enables the end-user, who has a iPhone to set up a custom notification system.

What this means is that you will be able to intergrade your script to the API that I have set up.

Here are some screenshots. I am currently using a "Dev Script" for this demo.

***In the picture, you will see "?username='+Notifo", That is the Notifo username, NOT your runescape username.***

If I release this, I will get a SSRL+ member to view the API and source code so they are able to verify that it is safe and clean.

The reason why I have blurred out some of the domain is because I don't want un-needed traffic to the server at the moment.

How this works..

Script -> www.srljustin.com -> Notifo -> Apple -> iPhone

Most of the work is done at my server, 'www.srljustin.com' and Notifo's server. This was to keep the 'integration' lightweight and to make it as easy as possible for the end-user.

It might look like a long way to travel but it takes ~2-3 seconds to receive the notification.

Every 'report' has a unique 15 character count, reports are automatically stored on my domain for 30 minutes then a cron job cleans it up.

I am currently working on a 'talk back' feature that will enable the end-user to send a custom command to my server that simba will read and do the command, for example: 'shutdown' would terminate the script. This will be set up by the end-user, in the script there will be a String they will have to fill out with a 'secret key' this will give them access to Simba remotely.

The main reason why I started this little project was because I needed a way to be able to see how my bot was going without needing to TeamView into my computer. Also if you are running more then 1 bot with TeamViewer it can be hard to select what bot you want to view, and then when you do get the bot you want to view it can be 'laggy'.

My domain is hosted on my VPS, not a shared host.

No RuneScape data is sent to my server or anywhere.

The Android app is currently in beta-testing. I don't have an android phone so I am unable to see if it currently works..

i will be happy to test if you let me be a beta tester

There's an android emulator online made by Google. You can test the android app on there. Its pretty much there to test apps with.

This doesn't use SMS, it uses Wifi/3G data connections.

Im gonna make my own :D like the idea maybe for Dycing ;) becuase you can make "bots" which sounds awesome and it even has a dice feature already GoodLuck with this should go really far imo! with Notifo you can also receive info from the ipod(and/or device used) like to make the script start and/or stop? Anyways looks awesome ETA?

I am working on a way for the end-user to talk back to simba, could be useful for when someone is talking to you. Just got to iron out some bugs that I have discovered.

Yeah I haven't looked that much into the bots that can be made.

I hope to have it fully done and released within 48 hours.

That 2 way messaging between user->user. This won't really help me, but thanks for trying!
I have an idea on how I am going to do it.. Might release it without the talk-back feature and make that an update.

Edit: Just saw this - http://blog.notifo.com/notifo - Notifo will be shutting down 'soon'. I will find another service to use if and when they shutdown.

awww they are pretty good :/ oh well i guess i just have to go back to HTML/PHP etc coding and learn from there :(

Agh nvm about pm just realised that the app needed times to notify 0.0 it'd only be good I you wanted it to tell you in a certain time I guess or w/e also didn't work for me :/ ohh well on to the next one...

Not much activity here for a while I see... this looks like a very good idea! The idea of on the go reports is great, I wouldn't mind this at all... did you end up releasing this then Justin? If so how can I get this all ready to go on my iPhone? lol Thanks

This would be extremely useful. But if you have Google voice SMS is free I think still. Just get a free service that can send SMS from your computer. Then read the text on the page. If the text says 'TerminateScript' then your script terminates. I don't know how that works though. Like with HTTP client could you do that without interrupting the RS script. Multithreading it? Or use the SCAR minimizable web client?

Really neat. I'd use it to notify me of random events. I'd like to see it for Android, I think most people have grown out of iPhone and moved on to Android anyways...

I'd imagine that, especially on a forum like this one.

If you went to my school it would be a different story, tons of iPhone fanboys (and girls :) )
