Creating a VM {Vid}

VM TUT

Heres the video:

Make sure you have a legal copy of the system you wish to install on your VM like i do.
Some instructions may differ depending on what you want.


Notes:
After you get your system installed install VM-Tools to enhance graphics.

like rob said this is like a brand new computer install everything you need.
(look in linkies for a package with everything you need!)

Do not install VMTools if you wish to minimize The VM and use scar at the same time.

Hey, Darkie, I think there's something wrong with the VM PAckage, it just has like SRL Related stuff in it.

yes.. so when you get your vm installed you do not have to do a whole bunch of searching... ill all a link to java and ill put in firefox in the package a lil later.

I'm concerned about one thing though. If I make a VM, will it always use some of my RAM, even when it's off? Or only when it's on?

how come you shouldnt install VMTools if we want to minimize it and still auto? And should I install VMWorkstation or VMServer?

LOL I only have 1.7 GB of space left on my C drive. Is this all that is left on my comp? Does that mean that The most I could use for VM is 1.7GB? That sucks, Im definatly not gunna use it then...

well.. it doesnt work, so how do i do it? The link should work though.. Look at it and tell me if that means i only have 1.7 GB of space on my comp..

umm go And uninstall all progs you do not need...


and del the big files you do not need.

backup all videos and music files to flash drive or cd...

clean it up till you got 9 gigs of storage left.. Atleast :p

well acording to the pic u have a 18GB HD which is pretty low,

i could recommend to buy a USB that holds atleast 30GB or more they dont cost so much. if u do just throw all ur music and scar scripts in there and other stuff u dont need all the time.

BTW:

check if u have a D drive

a USB? as in a mem stick thing? If so, those cost like 100 dollars for a 1GB! thats quite the bit for some1 that doesnt have a job :p How would i check for D drive? because when i go to my comp, whats in the pic is all i got..

Ok so i have it set up, installed VMware Tools and everything. But I cant seem to figure out how to get the internet. I have comcast highspeed, so what do I do?

If i do this, i want ot be sure that it will be very easy to uninstall and remove eveyrhting that happened. Im scared i will mess up my comp trying this lol. Is it safe to do because i dont like messign with my comp because bad things can happen :p

Yeah its alright, it won't mess anything up. If you don't have a good enough computer, the VM will lag like crazy though.

I need a copy of Windows 98 -.-..If I had one, I would definetly get this. I had VMWare with a Windows XP Pro and it lagged like a mother at 400MB RAM and 2 3800+ AMD 64 X2 Processors.

Yeah its what most people put on their VM. And it won't lag if your computer is good enough. I can only put like 128MB RAM on my VM, and it lags like crazy. What are your computer specs?

How come? And sorry, thats just the one that I used and I know it works. If you want another one thats not BitTorrent then you'll do just as good if you search for it yourself.

Ok, I don't really like bittorrent, but what I do is download BitTorrent. Download that file to a CD..then "extract" it or something? I have never used BitTorrent but I've heard bad things about it..

No, you don't have to burn it to a CD. At least I didn't. You just use the ISO image.

OK!, SO i want VMs on my computer really bad.
I have one computer with a 3ghz HT processor, 512mb ram, and plenty of hdd space. I also have a laptop with a 1.8ghz processor, hdd space, and 384 mb ram. I'm buying 1gb of ram for the laptop.
I want to know how hard it is to setup the internet connection (vial LAN) in 98.
I have xp home on the laptop, media center on the desktop, and a pro install CD.
I'm wondering how I do the whole multiple CD key thing, as I hear that if you have pirated CD keys, microsoft servers send a signal to kill your processor.
A:what do i do about CD keys?
B:can I use the laptop cd key on a VM on my desktop?

The 3ghz machine and the 1.8ghz machine as spec'ed with the upgrade, neither would be able to run a VM very well. The 1gb of ram for the laptop might be able to allow it to run with macro on the VM and surfing the net on the main. The main would not be able to run a macro too. On the 3ghz machine it probably will do the same for the laptop even with the processor speed. If you added the 1gb to the 3ghz machine it would definetly be able to run a dual macro.

The kill processor thing does not exist and its not even possible and illegal i would think. You can use pirated cd keys just you have to get around the registration for it.
