I found it ironic that the low guys on the totem pole are not wanting it added. They don't want their free ride to end. This should have been a members only voting in my opinion. If that were the case Not adding the Anti-Leaching would be in last. Leaches come out of the woodwork when they think they may have to put in effort to get free skills and RSGP. I am nothing on this site and this point, and I know that and am not saying I am any better then those other Users under 100 posts, but I am learning slowly but surely and trying to make an effort. But as Members have stated, this site should be used to learn, shouldn't need scripters holding your hand through everything forever.

People with access to higher scripts have the ablity to post their scripts in the members section, which kind of prevents leeching in the first place. They are (I would hope) aware that when they post a script in the public section, that leeching may occur. Its totally up to the script maker where the script goes. If the scripter doesn't want his script to be public because he feels it might be abused that's his choice. The scripter might also feel that since hes a scripter he doesn't want freebies to get the script, just people that script, help simba, and are on the forums. Its a preference thing. Anti-leeching, since its that persons script IT IS TOTALLY THEIR CHOICE PERIOD, you didn't make it you don't have a choice, if they feel they want to put this awesome script in public scripts section but throw in a wrench they can.
Possible Reasons:
If someone actually plays Runescape eventually gets bored, or wants to bot it. Its just a game. They don't have to play/bot it. Unless they really want to. If they do really want to, they can learn how. They have to learn how so, this forum stays a little active, scripters get support, and etc.
A true leecher is someone who just gets Simba working, then uses scripts. No forum input, etc. Since Simba has to be setup, scripts sometimes have problems, and nothing is totally straight forward ( ex: PowerBot download button ). This makes it so leeching is a bit harder. So a regular game player, can't just get on here hit download then immediately start botting. They have to learn HOW.
This makes it so the people who want to bot runescape stay here longer. Which is probably what scripters/programmers want since they put (x) amount of time into making stuff in order to do this.:spongebob: I typed too much owell. </rant>
EDIT: ALSO just looked at runescape script section says 80 viewing. Just goes to show why some put anti-leeching things in their scripts.

I'm new to the community and I think that people are milking out the people that are putting effort in something. People that want to learn should get permission and people that use the scripts and don't even leave a thanks should not even have permission to those scripts. But hey, that's just my opinion.

I am not sure if anti-leech will do anything good. It makes simba community look a bit unfriendly. But i get the point and i agree totally with it. Many leechers only want to goldfarm or get the 99's and don't want to do anything to help the community. I want to learn how to script aswell(because it is awesome :P).
I'd say that scripts that can possibly be harmfull for runescape('s economy) should be moved to members+. Isn't that a solution?(Probably the most strangest thing you guys ever heard a leecher say xD)
I think it depends on the script, the scripter, and how much time the scripter put into it. if they spent a long time in the script and its a script that isnt out much (say a script that makes huge amount of money or huge amounts of xp) then i dont even think it should be released to us registered users, only the bots that are slow xp or money and are just basic autos should be released to us registered users, and if not then it should have big anti-leech's so that we cant use them, unless we look up tuts and start participating (and i am being a hypocrite because i cant script will probably try again though it would be a cool thing to do)
I say no, but I would be considered a leecher as all I do is grab a public and run it. I don't post on the forums with any info on how it runs unless it's an issue I think can be simplified [(i.e one scripts has you go from X {start} to Y back to X and if you start at Y you run to X run to Y and back to X) my suggestion was just have Y as the start not X].
I don't have the time nor do I want to learn to script, it's like another language and I had hard enough time learning German (English speaker here) and I'm botting to save me time remaking an account I've already had just tweaking the quest or prayer level.
My biggest issue is I see more help for the simple fix shit than I do for the anti Leeches. You guys, as a community, are more willing to help some one who could fix their issues on their own with a google search and 30 seconds of time, than you are willing to help someone trying to get past the anti leaches.
I should note the simple things I'm talking about are covered in the "Setting up simba & SRL" or are in the "SRL frequently asked questions." I only know this because I've run into all the simple issues and fixed them instantly because I took the time to read the starting thread vs the kids who just download the program and expect it to be explained to them in the scripts thread.
I'd focus on making those kids learn the absolute basics, because they seem like a greater issue to "leaching" than I see myself.
People should be taught the basics which is VERY VERY available, and that should be anti-leech other than that if they want to continue learning is up to them.
I have yet to see an anti-leech that isn't basic, besides for about 3 but they were for scripts that could possibly crash the economy so it is understandable.
I think its mostly up to the scripter. I may be new but all of the anti-leach I've seen has been super easy. If possible, maybe just make the script section private so guests can't see that section, but they can see others. That way they have to register to use a script.
First question, can people still download scripts on the site even if they are not registered?
Anti-leeches should be left up to the scripter to decide if they want to add one to their script.
This is a pointless thread because as long as scripts are not being paid for, scripters will always want to have the satisfaction of knowing that people are paying somehow to use the script whether it be anti-leech or one of those build-it-yourselfs.
