recommend me a laptop!

hello people.

so i'm looking to purchase a new laptop, nothing too special and the ideal price range for me would be £300-500.

i mainly want it as my current laptop sounds like a plane taking off when i run 2 scripts. well that's a lie, i can run 2 scripts fine as long as they're just stood at a bank or something but if they involve walking then my CPU usage shoots straight to 100% which causes the scripts to lag which then results in said scripts playing up and doing all sorts of random things.

my current laptop is an acer aspire 5732z and here's the specs -

System Type x64-based PC
Processor Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4400 @ 2.20GHz, 2200Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB

i don't know the first thing about processors either so i'm hoping someone on here who's clued up could help me!

oh and if anyones got a bit of extra time on their hands and could check if the following website has any decents ones on it then that would be superb. as i'm skint and i could pay monthly (http://very.co.uk)

@ vaccinate, do you have a prefence in physical size of the laptop -- or manufacturer?

I recommend ASUS! Its cheap but good enough. I have K53SV, powerful gaming laptop for 1000$.

i'd love to get a desktop as they're more powerful and you get much more for your money, however i'm basically at 2 different houses throughout the week so i need the portability really.

If you need portability between hOuses why not set team viewer or similar software up on your desktop and access it from your other place of residence when you go there? Will allow you to maintain everything ad still have a decent desktop pc

Toshiba Satellite C660-2N3 - Core i5-2450M 2.5 GHz / 4GB DDR3 RAM / 500GB HDD / Intel HD Graphics 3000 / 15.6 inch
For 520 euro. I wonder how many scripts/SMARTs I could run with that. Does anyone know stuff about the i5 2450M?

Try a lenovo, they work wonders for me :)

I use a Compaq CQ56, It's a great computer, and It does walking scripts easily, The only thing.. It's made by HP...

The price you pay for an alienware is why people hate it, in terms of usability you don't want a desktop that you have to carry (Which is what Alienware is). The price for something that is mediocre at best because of what you can get for the same price elsewhere.

This. I'm not sure of a conversion rate, but it use to be $1.6 to 1 pound so ~$800 can build you a decent botting pc.

That was my first intention of buying an Alienware M17x. But I then found out from a friend (software engineer @ Waterloo University) that you can get the stats of an Alienware for nearly 1/4th of the price (499$ ish).

My current laptop is an absolute beast and I got it for about half the price of the M14x (599$).

It's perfect for botting and the Future Shop people gave me the chance to upgrade to an i7 with 16GB DDR3 memory + 6750 HD graphics for 200$ more.
I simply chose not to because I didn't have the money at the time (I bought the laptop on my own from selling my RSGP, my dad would've bought it for me but that would've meant no PS3 + HDTV).

So your point is invalid, I could afford the Alienware laptop but simply chose not to rip myself off. If you bought one, I feel for you mate.

i payed 25000 pesos that would be like 1800 dollars. and idc about the price, it can run everything on ultra setting and thats what i need.

I certainly do hate to agree with Shay, but you are being silly. He paid $600 and you paid $1800. So you paid 3x what he paid and your performance rating is only ~1 point better than his. I am thinking if you gave Shay an additional $1200 to spend he could have easily built something to get better numbers than your current Alienware laptop.

I'm not sure if someone else bought the laptop for you, by why would anyone say they don't care about the price? If you can obtain an equally functioning piece of equipment for less money why would you not want to do that?

And now to be on topic :redface: I would consider a Toshiba if you can find one in your price range with the specs you want. My laptop is a Toshiba and I have never had any issues with the actual laptop. I had an issue with the charger but I sent it in and they had me a new one within a week.

Alienware always has the option of a graphics card, which is probably the only reason for him to score higher than Sin. Also, those score can be changed quite easily if you just did a quick google you could find out how.

I know that this thread is about laptops, but fyi, my friend modded his monitor (15 inch) and fitted it onto the side part of the chassis of a computer, and has a beast $1000 build with i5 2500k, gtx 570, and like 12 GB 1333 mhz ram, which was downsized from 1866 to get 7-7-7-18 timings. The chassis is really portable and he can bot what he says like 5-10 at a time... so maybe try that?

Btw, it has a slight case of overheating, so if you try this option, you may want to install like excalibur level cooling.

the 2450M has about half the power (at benchmark maximum) as the 2500k, so probably 4 or so as said

satellites are pretty good laptops for their price

Thanks Leetsxc and Grats, that's pretty nice. I am currently using a 6-years old desktop with Intel pentium 4 processor o/c to 3.99 Ghz, but it can barely do 1...

Im on my phone at work at the moment so i'll havr a proper look later but what kinda processor should i be looking at getting? Intel i5 or higher? What about amd's? And im assuming 4gig of ram is sufficient when it comes to running 2 or more walking scripts comfortably yeah?

960t unlocked cores oc'd to 4 Ghz is beast in AMD. and I5 has the best bang for buck in intel.

Go on Ebay and check out custom Laptop makers find their site, they sell their stuff for dirt cheap compared to the other companies and you can get cheap ass Warranty along with it ;)
They just basically take shitty Laptops and Pimp them out to your desire for way cheaper than you would get the same for in terms of Performance, the ones in store may look all nice and shiny but their processors are outdated 90% of the time.. etc etc

Lenovos seem pretty highly rated on here so whats peoples opinions on this? Good value for money or could i do better?

For a laptop get an i5. i7's have a lower clock rate until turbo boost is activated, even then they bounce up and down (also they get really hot)

a bounce up and down from 1.3GHz to 3.1 is worse than a steady i5 at 2.4GHz or so, even then some of them bounce up to like 2.9

Well, I have i7 in my laptop. Its 4x2ghz and boost up to 2.6ghz.
At 2.6ghz, vent is very loud, and cpu gets to like 85-90C.
I usually set it to 2ghz, and its around 80C.
During night I sometimes bot, at 800mhz I can run max two bots and its silent enough.

I paid $1000 USD for my lenovo y570
This is with a solid state drive (to boot) 30 gigs (It doesn't count as my primary drive though (Primary is 7200 rpm, but 5.9 is the max score for any mechanical drive), which is why my score is low... simply if I switched them my score would be 6.7)

Also it is not showing my actual graphics card, I didn't turn it on when I took the assessment and really don't want to wait that long for that score to be improved by like .3.
(I can turn my graphics card off, and then it will use Sandy Bridge to save battery)

I boot in 16 seconds (timed) with my anti-virus loading before the OS

Oh it's one of the older i7's? that's insanely hot lol

I don't see them do that much anymore, intel seems to like the running at low Ghz then only going up when needed, either way that's crazy how hot it is.


definitely any laptop is going to be running a few simbas fine now-a-days though, r4and0ms laptop looks like it performs super pro

No its 1 year old type, i7 2630QM. I usually use high performance mode, so it goes up to maximum ghz.
Atm two simba running at 2ghz, 75C and 25% cpu usage.

I went on Kijiji and bought a Acer Extenza. 4Gb Ram 90 GB HD ~$130. Runs everything I want and I am satisfied. The only reason I didn't buy brand new is because my whole family is poor and I am saving all my money to go to college.
