Default Bank card has been cloned!

I woke today to find that my RuneScape membership had been cancelled.

I found out that my bank had been trying to contact me for the past two weeks to tell me that my card had been used in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Poland, Belgium and other stupid places all in the same DAY.

I really need advice, what could have caused this? I don't do any online banking, or any online payments that aren't through Paypal except at play.com.

Unfortunately, my bank refuses to give me the details of when I will get another card. Can they do this? I mean, is it right for them to not send me another card, or give me a date that means something?

Also, this is probably in the wrong section under the general section, but I have no other idea of where to post.

    Thanks guys,

    Tom.

Happens quite often-ish, not sure how though.

That's odd, normally banks are SUPER nice bout this and give all details, as long as they know you are the owner of the card.

It should be a easy short call to contact them, have the card canceled, and a replacement one sent to you.

As for your account, if it's now been locked by Jagex you can TRY and Un-Reverse the chargeback by contracting your bank, telling them the transaction (It will probably say to Jagex) and tell them the amount. They might be able to send it back to Jagex.

If not, and your account is locked, you have to pay $20 (SUCKS!) to get your account unlocked.

Good luck in sorting it all out!

Well that's the thing - they've already cancelled my card when they saw that I'd used it in the UK (which is normal) then tried to use it one day in 5 different countries. Of course it's been declined and apparently I have to get a new card.

They refuse to tell me when they will send me a new card, and they refuse to tell me if they will even send a card. "We cannot say at this time" is all I'm getting.

My RuneScape account isn't locked, it's just in a very very weird position - I can withdraw, wear, sell and buy all my members items, doesn't say Members Object. Not only this, but I have 6 bank slots, etc., but I still can't log into a members' world!

It even has the green tick on my Membership option (where you also see your IP etc.) which is really unusual.

    Thanks,

    Tom.

I don't really use the card itself to be honest; but I don't use ATM's unless they belong to a bank and are embedded into the wall, otherwise they could be fake.

People are stealing card details from ATM machines its called skimming. its becoming common in the UK now the perpetrator's put a device over the card slot of an ATM (automated teller machine), which reads the magnetic strip as the user unknowingly passes their card through it.These devices are often used in conjunction with a miniature camera (inconspicuously attached to the ATM) to read the user's PIN at the same time. Its happened to alot of people recently

Maybe that's what it is... but I'm not sure, I always cover my PIN when I'm putting it in. I just want them to send me a new card. Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow then try again.

    Thanks,

    Tom.

People used to setup a camera which would take pictures of you entering your pin, but now in more recent times they are actually doing things which look less suspicious, such as this

    Wow, never seen those before.

Really have to watch out when I'm entering my PIN now. I'm going to be looking out for things like this.

    Thanks,

    Tom.

P.S. will not be seeing further posts until tomorrow.

I don't know about anything in the UK, but I never use ATM's.

If I need cash (which is rare anyways, just use the card for everything), I'll hit up a gas station or grocery store, buy a candy bar using the debit option, and do cash back. There's a max on the cash back though, so not the best option if you need >$50.

    --------------

Also, you shouldn't be too concerned using ATMs though, because if you have a reputable bank, then this debacle will only result in a headache and some time switching cards. The banks are the ones getting ripped off here because they're all unauthorized transactions and you'll get the $ back.
    I'm back

    Maybe it was powerhack, lol.
Anyway I would suggest you go to the bank and request talking in private with a banker. Idk about you but whenever I have a bank issue, I go to the bank and request talking with my friend the banker. Since he's my friend, he solves me every issue with honest answers.

Usually your bank should send you another card within the next week of you claiming a stolen/lost card.

However, each bank has different procedures, I guess, the only thing that should matter is them giving you back your money that was stolen.

Yeah i would generally recommend using ATM's that are in Shopping Center's which are closed to the public at night, i feel slimmer chances of being gotten by one of those devices because of security on the lookout 24/7 and people passing by in general. Maybe not though. Just my opinion!

^ People will switch out debit machines inside of grocery stores when the cashier turns around. So I would be cautious with EVERY atm or debit machine you use.
You should try going into the bank and see what they say. If they say that they werent going to give me any information, I would tell them I'm not paying anything and I am not coming back. I think its your right to know wtf is going on.

This happens more than you think. It takes 20 seconds for a thief to put in a card skimmer and camera at ATMs. When you do use an ATM, put your hand (or an object) above the hand that's typing the pin.

I hardly use them, I always go into my bank to withdraw money.

It's not replaced, it's just a clone added to the top, which I guess will record the keys pressed so even if they do cover their pin. It will still get recorded.

Pretty scary actually, never had this happen to me luckily!
Go to your nearest branch and request a talk with them, take a passport or something which proves your identity (with your photo on preferably) to prove you are the real owner and they should be able to get your current card shut down and a new one sent to you within the week
