Default Simba fully setup VM (download with a tut)

Keep in mind, this is a small download.. as you would download more than this when setting up the same VM.
This is highly compressed! Please follow the directions!
What is this thread/tutorial for? -- it is for people who want to run simba in a VM (virtual machine) which is a closed environment, running its own operating system, this will allow you to run whatever you want in the browser, and it will allow your mouse to be free on your host operating system, enabling you to run simba on a game or whatever, while you do whatever you usually do on your host machine.

Hello, a lot of you newer guys probably know me from: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86753

Anyway, I know it's tough coming to a new site, learning how to setup your scripts, maybe finding it interesting and wanting to learn how to script.. but get stuck on a whole different animal: setting up stuff in Linux

So, in hopes all of you will learn to script, and hopefully share all of your great scripts with each other, I have created a VM that is highly compressed, that you can extract and then use for your simba bot maybe while you do other things on your computer.
    GET http://www.7-zip.org/
    Quickinfo:
    you need 7zip
    you need virtualbox
you should read everything on this page
you should double check your system specs are as good or better than right below here
    all passwords are 123456
I will not put any other programs on this VM, this is for simba use.. what you do with simba is not up to me, I don't have any recommendations other than learning.

    Go here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cq7uf7623fm9rhl/simbafed.7z
Do not download these files from anywhere else, they are a full operating system, anyone can add some bad files to it that do naughty stuff like steal your info!
To enable firefox menu, make firefox in a window mode (not fullscreen) and right click to the right of the tab, check the menu bar box.
adblock comes installed on this firefox.

You should have at least 2GB of RAM
you should have at least a modern dual core processor (meaning, I wouldn't continue if it isn't 4 threads)
quad core processors will do very well here, and 4GB + ram is recommended if you want to be doing a lot of other stuff on your desktop while your bot runs in VM

Here is a tutorial in setting up virtualbox to run this VM:

First, for people who know what they're doing, these are settings I recommend.. you need not go any further in the tutorial if this is all you need,

P.S. it must be named 'simbafed'

Now I assume you have https://www.virtualbox.org/ installed, if not, do that first... install it like any program.

Now click "file -> preferences" in the "general" tab you will see this:

Note where your "default machine folder" is

Click the "new" button on top, name it whatever you like.. I type in "fedora" first and then rename it to "simbafed" IT MUST BE NAMED simbafed TO AVOID PROBLEMS LATER, this way it automatically goes to the correct type/version

Now you SHOULD BE OK with the 768MB of ram that comes as the default setting, however I like to have 1024 (1GB) of ram. (I don't play runescape, anyone want to let me know how much it's using? I assume 300MB from RS + a max of 500 with firefox + simba + OS, so right under 800 at the most, probably not that much though)

Now you should be at this page:

we will select that "do not add" option

now go to that default machine folder you found earlier, and you should see your new VM:

(remember yours should be named 'simbafed' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

click on your new VM, there should be some files in there:

Now you should copy the Downloaded simbafed file in this directory, extracted or not.. I didn't extract mine, because I am going to show you how to:
Assuming you downloaded and installed 7zip as said above, all you need to do is this:

Note: this will take about 1GB of ram, so if you're on a less powerful system, make sure you have big pieces of software closed.. however for most this shouldn't be any problem on a machine where you're going to be running a VM that is pretty heavy already.

now you can and SHOULD delete the .7z file after the red box "virtual disk image" file is extracted

Now you can go into the "settings" of the VM, and go to system tab, you should make yours look like this:

The RAM can go higher or slightly lower (not by much) going over 1.5GB will be a complete waste, 1024MB (1GB) should do well

If you have a quad core or a dualcore/4threaded processor (ask in thread if you're not sure, screenshot your systems panel in control panel.. or your task manager should have 4 processor boxes in the performance tab on windows)

Enable IO APIC is NOT a must if you do not intend to allow multiple cores for this VM, however I recommend it because it will run more smoothly.

now we'll want to go to the storage tab, after that you should click the "add new hard disk" button on the right side of the controller: SATA

    click choose existing (obviously)

    find it, select it.
You will see a problem if your VM is not named simbafed, to fix this, just go to general tab and rename it to 'simbafed' and click ok, then reopen settings, and try readding the drive, you will now see:

Now when you click OK, you should see all of these settings:

and by the way, if you want, you can go into settings -> audio and disable the VM's audio so it'll never have sound... if you want (didn't test, shouldn't do anything bad though, if it does, just reenable sound)

you should now be able to doubleclick and start it up

    PASSWORDS: 123456
    all passwords are the same.

Thanks guys, double thanks for donations, if anyone knows any other sites with big file sharing let me know I will add more download links

in virtualbox under "machine" is disable mouse integration, this is handy so your mouse only gets captured in the VM if you click on it.. use right ctrl ( seen on bottom right corner of vbox) if you need to get out of the vm

also under view "scale mode" that is a mode I like a lot, it allows you to resize the VM anysize you want while maintaining the same resolution inside of the actual VM, so you can make it very tiny or very big

    A GOOD QUESTION!

This is the file browser, click it! (you'll notice it's very similar to the mac OS X browser, or maybe windows if you use the explore

Right click in the file browser and click "show hidden" to see the .wine folder

or simply type this in the bar:
    /home/user1/.wine/drive_c

now to make it easy, drag simba over to the side! like this:

now you can easily click the simba folder from there. (this will be added in if I ever update the VM for whatever reason)

    Browse your wine c: directory.

This is on Lubuntu, but should be the same.

I just click open and drag them into there, sorry forgot about that part ;P but yea, wine has its own C: just like windows

glad some people found it useful, I've been getting a LOT of PM's for my old tut because there are some troubles I guess, hopefully this helps a lot of you out.

Adding a small tut for that on the bottom

    Awesome guide!

I am also having trouble with getting SIMBA to capture the java window, when I click the target and then try to drag it over the runescape window, the entire VM's screen turns red rather then only the runescape UI.

    Any ideas?

you opened the correct wine version firefox that is on the desktop..? not the firefox built into fedora?

I tested it multiple times, including downloading my own compressed version and making sure nothing funky happened. everything works fine as far as selecting browser objects and running simba goes

Chrome uses quite a bit more memory than firefox. You can use it if you want, but you have to get the windows installer and install it inside of wine.
