    Default Stock Investing

Does anyone here invest in the stock market??
    What are your stock picks?

My personal favorite is groupon. It has constant variation good for buy low sell high and is VERY predictable after stduying it for a couple weeks.

I used a stock game website to practice my methods and now make about 100 a week on groupon

well i would tell you a website but it's against the rules to advertise :/ just search stock simulation game. They let you buy and sell with fake money at real stock prices. Some even have competitions to win real money! and once you feel comfortable on those put 1-2 thousand in a brokerage account and start trading!

So this is like practicing on the stock market
On game: Win and make million
IRL: Lose all your money and stay poor.

Thats pretty much how it goes haha. not but seriously its pretty close to the same as real life. It just doesn't factor in bid and ask spread.

Investopedia is my favorite stock simulator. It is the most realistic imo, compared to other websites where you can only buy and sell stock. Here you can do much much more

Welcome to the wonderful world of Finance!

I've been studying economics since 7th grade, and have read many textbooks (not books, grad school textbooks) on Finance and Investing.

MarketWatch is a great place to start, but the virtual game is a bit unrealistic. I personally won my school competition, but that is because its easy to manipulate the system.

In the real world, I manage 3 portfolios of mine (IRA, Long Haul, & For Shits and Giggles).

I suggest setting up an account on a discount broker where you can trade for less then $5 a trade, and have some fun. You probably wont make money, but you will learn invaluable lessons.

----My Stock Picks, I bought Apple when it was down in the dumps at $450 and then again at $400, fan of Nokia (i'm currently in the red, but it is highly volatile, so this changes daily), and Morgan Stanley.---

My Pro Advice: Buy a mutual fund/etf that works in International Stocks (mostly Japan). I bought a 80% Japan ETF 3 months ago and it has been my biggest coup yet. But i'm holding onto this for at least another year since Japan Stocks are incredibly under valued, so jump on them ASAP before you miss out.

Why do you like Groupon? I personally hated Groupon, but then when the CEO left, I was kicking myself for not buying in earlier since I even heard rumors that he was leaving. Oh well, but Groupon is perfect for day trading and quick flipping. I personally love Zynga for the quick flip, and Bank of America is perfect since it always moves in incredibly high volumes so thus more volatility.

Good tip about the Japan stocks, I'd imagine that once they're recovered fully they'd be back up there

I do it (for 3 years now). Last year I made cash with Philip Morris International, Starbucks, McDonalds and some stocks from the smi (swiss market index).
Unfortunately I lost a huge amount last summer, having a "break" since then.

I mostly use a combination of ETFs/US options. Just use money you don't care to loose. (It is ok if it hurts, but don't do "all or nothing".

I really can't say where you should start, I only know companies/banks in switzerland who offer trades.

Edit: Imo it is too late to invest in bitcoins.
