Post The Horrors of new scripts [OSR]

    I've really noticed something.
Lately, there seems to be an increase of bans for people using scripts for OSR.
In my time @ this community, never have I seen bans occur so quickly.
In my opinion, the problems occur because many "simple" scripts exist without any antiban making it easy to get banned.
I feel as if these scripters should using italics, bold, and whatever they can to notify the users about the risks of using their scripts.
This is just my personal opinion. Made this thread to see some opinions on this question.
    THanks, Physic

my opinion: lots of new ppl migrated here shortly after OSRS came out. very few good scripters released scripts. most new ppl released quickly made scripts that were terrible. everyone uses OSRS scripts - bans.

also, there are a lot more mods roaming around and manually banning bots. this could also be a reason.

I agree. I feel like a new sub section needs to be made to differentiate between these scripts

This thread is a jerk knee response to a ban sweep that occurs once every millennium. The only anti ban that could possibly even work are those that logs you out if a pmod or a mass of people suddenly appeared, since the ban sweep us a manual affair, no amount of mouse or keyboard randomness will save your account

This, plus the mod has to speak to see the crown...

I think people just don't put in a lot of anti-ban or in a lot of other scripts there is no anti-ban at all. They are very bot like scripts. Also people just don't seem to get that if you're in an area where a lot of bots happen to be, chances are you will get found out.

I agree as well. I think that logging out with Simba might not always work b/c they have to talk for a user to log out

Kinda like Slushpuppy said, no amount of antiban will help when there's a mod who isn't talking.

I feel that it's the responsibility of the script user to not bot stupidly. (Yes, botting when you know there will be a bot banning event is botting stupidly.)

I think a guide would be useful. "smart botting" is different from person to person, so it can hard to agree on what is and isn't smart.

Here is what I go by usually though:
    • Don't have a botty name like "dfdhdfdgdfd1". Names like ''SRL Wohoo" do not fall into this category because the majority or rs players would not associate SRL with bots.
    • Don't wear the default clothes. This is more for 07 because there is more of a stereotypical "bot look" there.
    • Don't bot in areas that are notorious for being bot hotspots, like flax, rune esssence, or silk in ak. This is because they are subject to ban waves more frequently.
    • Don't be a level 3/level 4, that is something that is associated with gold farming, so it is something you should avoid.
    • If you know that there will be a Jmod presence at an area, don't bot there. If you know that there will be a Jmod led bot hunting mob, don't bot at all.

I'm sure there are more, those are just some of the ones I always follow.

There are guides available if you do a little digging. Perhaps you could find some and improve on them and repost, giving credit where due of course.

    Made me laugh. Thanks haha.
Also, if the account you're botting on is one you wish to keep and not just a farmer... manage the amount of hours you bot depending on where/when you're botting the amount of hours you bot should fluctuate. Right now I'm not botting on my main at all due to a few stories of bans I've heard all happening today. Anyone know when this bot hunting will end or at least when it will ease up?

Things like this usually lose interest after a few days, but check the forums. If people aren't planning anything you're probably good.

Okay, will do. Also, I was thinking, would it be worth it to change my IP since I'm botting on two accounts that I don't care about in hot spots at the moment? I don't want the banning of one/both to cause my other account that I like to be flagged as a result. Or does it not matter, since perhaps the accounts have all ready been linked because they all have the same IP in their IP history?
(They keep IP logs, dont they...? If I remember correctly they do for proof of multilogging & such.)

They do keep IP logs, but the only times I've heard of IP bans are from massive goldfarming or RWT things.

You're probably fine not changing it
