    Default Cops

Why do people treat cops like crap?

I was on youtube and this guy was literally giving the cop the hardest time possible, while the cop was just being nice asking simple questions...

    Discuss.

Because a lot of people have bad experiences with cops. But really, judging any diverse group of people by a small number of their members is usually a bad idea.

I hate that people generalize cops /: I have several friends/ family who are cops/detectives/corrections officers, they are all very nice and do their jobs well, get the horn from the bull without even provoking it /:

People publicize the bad cops, the good ones a left aside, silent heroes <3

Oh cops... Starting off with a story...
Last week im sitting on my porch doing some day drinking with my roommate when out of nowhere a cop comes up behind some guy walking on the side walk and starts talking to him/trying to get him to talk to her. Immediately i ran inside, grabbed by gopro and started recording. At this point there are 2 cops on the man (looks like hes still in highschool) and they have him handcuffed trying to get him on the ground. One is sitting there kneeing him in the chest trying to get him down but cant. A moment later he looks up, sees us on our porch with drinks in-hand. He yells at us "ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO JUST SIT THERE OR HELP US?!" My friend and I look at each other, set our drinks down and get off the porch. By the time we get 5 or so feet away the guy is at the ground. A few moments later local university campus police show up and take our IDs, and talks to us for a moment, she thought it was underage drinking or something. No worries. We are legal. Later one of the cops comes over to us and is like 'where are you guys from?' we tell him and he snarkily replies, 'ugh, well i dont know where that is, but around here, you help an officer.' -- we stand there stunned. The cops explains what happened and why they grabbed him, whatever nbd.

So what does this have to do with anything? Well i sat there confused as to why this guy was getting cuffed for what i thought was no reason. When i was getting my camera, they had tried to talking to him, but he refused, they asked him if he had a weapon on him, but just got "F You"s and such.

So in this case, is it 'mean'/uncalled for to video tape it? Well, i guess for something like this yes it was, but i just want to make sure no ones rights are being violated.

    Second Story...
Over the past month or so ive noticed vandalism on my car almost once a week. Now this isnt necessarily destructive vandalism, but its chalk. Some asshole keeps chalking my tires. I can only assume a police officer is committing these acts of vandalism, but i have yet to catch one in the act and he (or she) is going to get an earful of me exercising my rights.

But Turp! Thats not vandalism, its just chalk!
    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...-chalk-arrests
Hmm. One of those arrests happened very close to me. This is complete BS.

    Final Cop story...
The Next day after this previous incident... We are sitting on our porch drinking again (what a surprise). Its getting late, there are like... 10 of us out there and as cars drive by they are honking as we wave. I go to my room for a moment and see a car stop just up street and 2 guys get out, its dark. One of them is walking like hes got a gun on his hip, so yell to my roommate "COPS COMING!" or something. As he walks up, my other roommate's girlfriend says 'OH SHIT' (shes not 21). The cop jokingly laughs 'so i guess that means your not 21', he basically tells us that someone called in us or the cars honking. The cop tells us he cant do anything about the cars honking, but suggests we not make it so tempting for them to honk.

So in this story, its all well, half of the people there werent 21, so had the cop actually done something... we would have gotten a few fines.

Annnyway. Like them or hate them. They are here. I will do whatever i can to avoid the police, If that means "walking" away, I will, because as far as i know, going for a spontaneous jog is not illegal.

I like cops but there're people who think they are bad people. I obey laws in general and even if I do something wrong I understand this and it's not the cops fault. I've seen guys who are vandalizing and then when police shows up they're like: "Oh pigs came again, I hate them cuz they hate us."
But there's always bad cops too who think they're above the law and can make fun of people.
My last contact with them was about loud music, got warning..
Like one guy said: It's best to avoid them because they can screw you

A lot of cops have huge egos and are a**holes, at least the ones I've encountered. I got a ticket, 2 minutes from my house, for not displaying the sign of new driver that was most likely stolen from my car as I tried to explain. He didn't even want to hear anything I had to say. I was super polite. I mean come on, give me at least a warning. I wasn't speeding, had my seat belt, signaled when changing lane and pretty much did everything under the law. Nooo I got given a 105$ ticket, which maybe isn't a lot but still 2min from my house.

I have yet to see a nice cop. All complete jerks. No respect for them. They are just as big of crooks as any other criminal.

With all the videos of them beating people for no reason out there, no respect at all.

Its just from what we get shown on tv, always publishing about the bad cops, when there are more likely to be more good ones. But i have personally only had "bad" (not really that bad) experiances with cops..

driving home from a afternoon shift at work, 11pm at night, cop pulls me over, breathalizes me, and gets me for only having 1 p plate on. doesnt wanna hear my excuse, but thats fair enough, whatever. Then the next night, coming home from work again, same time, he pulls me over again, breathalizes me again, had both p plates on this time so i dont get booked, then i make a joke saying how he pulled me over yesterday, acts as if he doesnt remember. Then again on the 3rd night. he pulls me over yet again at the same time, breathalizes me again, and again denys that he has seen me ever before.

each of these times he was checking out my car, seeing if everything was legal (subaru impreza, quiet a few legal mods) but he had to keep checking my car every night, even though he did it all the other times and found nothing.

Also being a in a hotted up car, and being on my p plates, cops were after me all the time, i usually get pulled up about 2 times a week while i was on p's, now i have my full licence, i have not been pulled over yet, call it luck, or targetting, i dont know.

i dont know if my story makes sense, i am half drunk.
Bored of playing rs, and bored of botting it, why am i here?

They think in most cases they are above the law and use lies to deceit people into pleading guilty when in some cases the person could have been totally innocent but was pressured in to conforming to the law when in fact they were totally innocent.

Here's a vid of a guy going up against some police officers in UK:

I have nothing against police officers, the only interaction I've had was when I was biking on the sidewalk, which I shouldn't have been. He politely asked me if I could bike on the road instead, I said ok and he said have a good day. Then I biked on the road.

In small towns all cops are great- except the almost-retired-fogey-cops.

I was once lighting fires on a nature trail. He yelled at me and made me go home.

Made me chuckle at the picture of someone being yelled at for a campfire

No they aren't "The law" even public citizens can enforce the law i.e. You see a group of vandals, you stop them.

The point I was trying to make a lot of police officers go beyond the law and in some cases it can be seen as a breech of the law they have sworn to protect.
The main problem with this is evidence, who's the judge going to believe when some poor guy gets beaten up by group of police officers who all claim for simplicity he was resisting arrest, so had to use force and in the struggle sent him to hospital with broken bones, when in fact he was being perfectly obedient.

All cops have been nice to me. I didn't get fines for the most ridiculous stupid things I did. I always use my puppy eyes and my super polite and great personality.

The one setting up cop traps however... They are forced to be sitting behind a few trees on a popular road to a school. Giving all the students fines for not using lights even though it is not that dark.. When you are 12 years old those fines are huge.

I bike pretty much everywhere but I only use my lights once it gets dark, even though legally I should have them on at all times. It's dumb having bike lights on when it's daytime though, can't see them

Police officers are there to catch criminals after-the-fact, not actually stop a crime from occurring... They aren't there to protect you. There are several supreme court cases securing this.
